| HSBC Premier (Metal) HSBC | capped | 3.00% | MCC 6300/5960 — same ₹1L/month combined bucket; HSBC publishes no split of that ceiling, so none of it belongs to insurance alone |
| Kotak Air+ Prime Kotak Mahindra Bank | capped | 2.00% | MCC 6300 earns 2 Air Miles/₹100 on the first ₹25,000 of cumulative insurance spend a statement cycle, then nothing; MCC 5960/6381/6399 earn nothing at all |

| Tata Neu Infinity HDFC Bank HDFC Bank | capped | 1.50% | Capped at 2,000 NeuCoins a month at the 1.5% everything-else rate — 1.5 NeuCoins per ₹100, since 1 NeuCoin is ₹1 — about ₹1,33,333 of insurance premium a month (HDFC's own product page lists the cap) |
| Tata Neu Infinity SBI Card SBI Card | capped | 1.50% | Capped at 2,000 NeuCoins a month at the 1.5% everything-else rate — 1.5 NeuCoins per ₹100, since 1 NeuCoin is ₹1 — about ₹1,33,333 of insurance premium a month (T&C §11.4i) |
| Equitas PowerMiles Equitas Small Finance Bank | capped | 1.50% | Earns the 3 RP/₹100 base but capped at 2,000 RP a day — the MITC says "Insurance transactions will be capped at 2000 reward points per day" — which is ₹66,667 a day of premium at that rate, a DAILY ceiling this desk does not restate as a monthly one; corrected from full, 2026-07-22 |

| HDFC PIXEL Go HDFC Bank | capped | 1.00% | "The CashPoints for Insurance Spends will be capped at 2,000 CashPoints per day" — a daily cap, not a monthly one, and at the everyday 1 CashPoint per ₹100 it is ₹2,00,000 a day of premium; this desk does not restate a daily ceiling as a monthly one |
| LIC IDFC FIRST Select IDFC FIRST Bank | capped | 1.00% | The co-brand's whole point, and the fine print decides it: LIC premiums earn 10 RP/₹125 vs the 5 RP/₹125 base, but ONLY on payments made at licindia.in, and only the first 5 premium payments in a statement cycle qualify. NON-LIC insurance earns nothing at all. |
| PhonePe SBI Card SELECT BLACK SBI Card | capped | 1.00% | Same split, tighter cap. Inside the PhonePe app insurance earns 10 points per ₹100 up to just 500 points a calendar month — a third of the non-insurance ceiling, so a single annual premium exhausts it. Outside the app it earns zero, MCC 5960, 6300 and 6380 |
| PhonePe SBI Card PURPLE SBI Card | capped | 1.00% | 3 Reward Points per ₹100 inside the PhonePe app, capped at just 250 points a calendar month; insurance paid outside the app is excluded by MCC (5960, 6300, 6380) and earns nothing |

| HDFC Regalia Activ HDFC Bank | capped | 1.00% | "Reward points accrued for Insurance transactions will have a maximum cap of 2,000 per month" — clause 7, and it is a monthly cap, not a daily one. 2,000 RP a month at 4 RP per ₹200 is about ₹1,00,000 of insurance premium a month |
| Kotak Zen Signature Kotak Mahindra Bank | capped | 0.83% | Zen Points earn only on the first ₹70,000 a statement cycle, and that ₹70,000 is shared with education rather than granted separately — MCC 5960, 6300, 6381 and 6399 |
| ICICI Bank HPCL Super Saver ICICI Bank | capped | 0.50% | 2 RP per ₹100, and only on the first ₹40,000 of insurance spend a statement cycle — a cap the MITC applies to this card by name and to no other |
| Kotak Cashback+ Prime Kotak Mahindra Bank | capped | 0.50% | THE DIFFERENCE FROM THE PLAIN CASHBACK+: insurance premiums earn the 0.5% base on the first ₹25,000 of insurance premium a billing cycle here — above that they earn nothing — where the plain card excludes insurance from earning entirely |
| Kotak Royale Signature Kotak Mahindra Bank | capped | 0.33% | Points earn only on the first ₹70,000 a statement cycle, shared with education rather than granted separately — MCC 5960, 6300, 6381 and 6399 |

Best credit cards for paying insurance premiums in India (2026)
The desk's call for the category — a different question from the podium above. The podium ranks what ₹100 of insurance returns on a swipe today; this board ranks on ₹ back on a ₹1,20,000 premium . Same data, two views, and each says its own question.
Which is the best credit card for paying insurance premiums in India?
START WITH THE NEGATIVE, because it is the finding: 148 of the 255 whose insurance rule this desk holds earn EXACTLY NOTHING on a premium, and another 7 publish a ceiling this desk may put no rupee against — in units nothing here turns into rupees, or shared across categories with no published split — all of them named under the table rather than ranked at a number we made up. HDFC Diners Club Black Metal leads the 100 this desk can price, of 107 that earn anything: ₹3,996 on a ₹1,20,000 premium paid in one swipe. HDFC Diners Club Black Metal gets there on 3.33% on an insurance premium. Its ceiling — ₹1,50,000 of premium a statement month — does not bind at this premium. The biggest number here is not the answer: Axis Bank PRIMUS pays ₹6,000 and is invite-only, so it keeps its row and cannot take the crown. AND THE MONTH IS THE TRAP: 22 of the 100 ranked cards stop earning part-way through ONE premium, because the issuer wrote the ceiling per MONTH and the insurer bills once a year. The tightest of them — PhonePe SBI Card SELECT BLACK — earns on ₹5,000 of the ₹1,20,000 and nothing on the rest.
An insurance premium is the biggest single swipe most Indian households make all year, and the issuers wrote their ceilings per MONTH. 148 of the 255 whose insurance rule we hold pay zero on a premium; 22 of the 100 ranked cards stop earning part-way through one. Priced at ₹1,20,000 a year, billed once.

5 more questions about this board — how the rate is worked out, and what else readers ask
How is this ranking computed?
THE REFERENCE SPEND IS THE ARGUMENT, so it is stated first. ₹1,20,000 a year is an urban household's insurance year — a family floater, a term plan, a motor policy and an endowment instalment — and it is priced as ONE payment because that is how insurers bill. A monthly basket would hide the whole finding: at ₹10,000 a month not one ceiling in our fine-print desk binds, and every capped card would print its headline rate. Pay in quarterly or monthly instalments and your number is higher than this board's; that is the one lever a reader controls here, and it is worth more than the card choice on 22 of these rows. THEN THE RATE: first-tier earn × the card's published insurance treatment × its currency's house ₹/point — the same expression /spends, /spends/insurance and /wallet crown on — raised only where the card's own earn table publishes an insurance rung AND the desk's `insurance` rule in data/mcc.yaml states the same number; 10 rows clear that bar and 4 of them are locked to one insurer or one app, which the row names. THEN THE CEILING, applied and never rounded away: an insurance ceiling ends the earn rather than reducing it — past HDFC's monthly reward-point bucket or ICICI's "first ₹40,000 of insurance spend a statement cycle" the category pays nothing — so the ₹ is the rate against the covered slice and every row prints where the slice stops. A CEILING WE CANNOT SPEND IS NOT NO CEILING: 7 cards state a cap this desk may put no rupee against — either in units nothing here turns into rupees ("5,000 RP/month" with no rate written beside it), or in one bucket shared with other categories that the issuer never split, where the whole ₹ would be spent in insurance's name alone — and pricing either as unbounded would hand the crown to a ₹ nobody can collect, so they are named below the table instead. 3 accelerated rungs are refused on the same rule and held at the card's ordinary insurance rate. WHAT IS NOT IN THE NUMBER: the convenience fee an insurer's own payment page may charge, which is the insurer's charge and not the card's, and any dated cashback promotion — /tracker/offers carries those with their end dates. 257 priced cards carry an insurance rule on the fine-print desk; 388 priced cards have no insurance rule here yet and appear on no part of this page.
How many cards are in this insurance ranking?
100 of the 973 Indian personal cards on the desk are ranked here. 157 are listed unranked with the computed reason — named, not ranked — pays nothing on a premium, or caps it in units we can’t price — because a card we can't rank honestly gets named, not hidden. A further 328 are carried but not valued at all — 51 with no annual fee any issuer document states, 231 whose issuer has not published how the card earns, 46 with neither — because scoring an unknown as ₹0 is a claim, not a gap. Business and corporate cards are ranked apart from these: 70 priced ones sit on /best/business, because pricing an MSME card against a personal wallet answers a question nobody asked (ADR 0012).
How up to date is this list?
The records behind this board — the card records this ranks and the insurance rules on our fine-print desk — carry re-verification dates from 1 Jun 2026 to 25 Sept 2026; the board is recomputed from them on every build. Nothing on this page is typed by hand: the podium, the table and the numbers in this answer are all recomputed from those records every time the site builds, so a devaluation moves the ranking the day we log it.
Which credit cards for paying insurance premiums in India have no annual fee?
17 of the 100 ranked here are lifetime free. The best on ₹ back on a ₹1,20,000 premium is LIC IDFC FIRST Select at ₹2,400. This board's call, HDFC Diners Club Black Metal, costs ₹10,000/yr and reaches ₹3,996 — that gap is what the fee buys.
Is HDFC Diners Club Black Metal better than LIC IDFC FIRST Select?
On what this board ranks — ₹ back on a ₹1,20,000 premium — yes: ₹3,996 against ₹2,400. That is the whole claim, and a narrow one. No card wins overall: 23 boards, 23 questions.
How insurance got here

858 cards on the desk have no rule we could read for insurance. They are named here rather than guessed into the ranking above — an unread rule is not a full-earn rule.
Name all 858
Where this comes from
Treatments are read from issuer T&C, reward annexures and FAQs (HSBC and SBI publish full MCC tables; HDFC and Amex publish only category names), corroborated by community reporting where the banks stay vague — those rows say so. Where sources conflict we keep the conservative treatment. "Rate here" is the card's first-tier earn × this category's treatment × our house ₹/point from the valuation index — the same number the wallet winner puts on a swipe. A capped card shows its rate before the cap bites; the rule text names the cap. Issuers churn these rules quarterly — a note's date is the rule's date, not ours.
