Welcome: 300 Reward Points on a first retail or online transaction within 90 days of receiving the card

Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Pays for itself at ₹19,000 a month

At ₹19,000 a month — ₹2,28,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹800 gross (earn ₹800) against its ₹750 fee = ₹0 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

The take

RuPay Select is PNB's volume card, and the annual fee is real only on paper: ₹750, waived every year the card is used once a quarter, which any active holder clears without trying — so treat it as lifetime-free in practice. The joining fee is a flat ₹500 with no waiver condition published. Against that near-zero cost sits a genuinely interesting claim: "Complimentary Domestic and international Lounge Program." That is the whole reason to onboard a nine-bullet product page — a reader searching this card's name wants exactly that fact — but PNB does not publish a visit count, a guest policy or the lounge network behind it anywhere on the page or in the bank-wide Key Fact Statement, so we cannot size it. The page also promises "2X reward points on retail merchandise" without ever stating what 1X is — but PNB's Rewardz programme page does: RuPay Select earns 2 points per ₹150, or 1.33 per ₹100, which at the ₹0.25 PNB's own MITC assigns a point is 0.33%. So the multiplier is usable after all, and it doubles a third of a percent. Hold it for near-zero cost and an unquantified lounge door; the rewards program is real but small.

The downgrade

Punjab National Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

If you call to cancel

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • Effectively lifetime-free: ₹750 annual fee waived on one transaction a quarter, ₹500 flat joining fee
  • Complimentary domestic and international lounge access is claimed on PNB's own product page
  • 2 Reward Points per ₹150 (0.33% at ₹0.25 a point), doubled on retail merchandise, plus 300 points on a first transaction within 90 days

Watch out

  • No lounge quota, no lounge network and no forex markup published anywhere PNB writes about this card — the earn rate lives on the Rewardz programme page, not the card's own
  • The 2X retail multiplier doubles 0.33%, not a headline rate — 0.67% back on merchandise is the ceiling here
  • 3.5% forex markup applies (PNB's bank-wide fee schedule; this card is not the nil-forex LUXURA)

What these points actually fly

No live transfer route takes PNB Reward Points into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

What earns, what doesn't

2 sourced rules · 1 pay zero

PNB publishes NO merchant-category exclusion list for any card on its shelf — not on the product pages, not in the Key Fact Statement, not in the MITC, which mentions merchant categories only to reserve the bank's right to BLOCK a card transacting on restricted MCCs. So this row states the two deviations PNB does document and nothing else; every other category answers "not published" rather than a guess.

The fine print

7 of 7 MITC rows published

What the MITC actually says — the rates, fees and cutoffs the brochure skips.

Forex markup 3.5% over and above the currency conversion rate — PNB's nil-markup carve-out names only the two LUXURA metal cards
APR 2.95%/mo (35.89%/yr); 1.5%/mo (19.56%/yr) on a card issued against a PNB fixed-deposit lien
Late fee Slabbed on the total amount due: Nil up to ₹1,000; ₹500 on ₹1,001–₹5,000; ₹600 on ₹5,001–₹10,000; ₹750 above ₹10,000
Cash advance 2% of the amount, min ₹150 at PNB ATMs / ₹200 at other ATMs / ₹300 overseas
Add-on card ₹500 per add-on card (joining); no annual fee on add-ons
Overlimit 2.5% of the overlimit amount, min ₹500 (min ₹250 on a card issued against a fixed deposit)
Redemption fee None published — but a redemption needs at least 1,000 points, and points expire 3 years from the date of accrual

₹500 to join and ₹750 a year, and the annual fee is waived in any year the card is used at least once each quarter — so the recurring charge is effectively optional, but the joining fee is not. PNB's Rewardz programme page prices the earn at 2 points per ₹150 (1.33 per ₹100, or 0.33% at ₹0.25 a point) plus 300 points for a first retail or online transaction within 90 days. The card's own page claims a "Complimentary Domestic and international Lounge Program" and publishes no visit count, no guest policy and no network behind it — which is why the lounge row for this card says so rather than inventing a quota. Interest-free period 20–50 days, minimum amount due 5%, cash-advance limit 20% of the credit limit. Fuel surcharge waiver 1% (min ₹12.50) on fills above ₹500 and below ₹4,000, capped ₹350 a billing cycle — ₹100 more headroom than the Platinum tier. The MITC values a point at 25 paise; pnbcard.in/rewards.html still says 50 paise. PNB publishes no income or age criterion on this card's own page.
