What it's worth to you, after the fee

Not valued. We can't value this card until the issuer publishes how it earns — every net-value number here would be a fee subtracted from rewards nobody has described. Everything we can source — the fee, the charges, the migration that put this card in your hand — is above and stands on its own; this card is simply not on the board, not in the calculator, and cannot win a best-of call until Bank of India publishes terms we can cite.

The take

SwaDhan is Bank of India's secured card, issued against a term deposit receipt and nothing else, and its distinguishing feature is how completely free it is. Issuance nil, annual charge nil, add-on card nil — and, uniquely on BOI's shelf, replacement nil too: the bank's own charge schedule sets card replacement at ₹300 for "any variant excluding SwaDhan Card". The borrowing side is cheaper than the unsecured cards as well, at 1.20% a month against 2%, because your deposit is the collateral. It is accepted worldwide, carries EMI at point of sale through Worldline, and lets you withdraw ₹15,000 a day at any ATM globally. There is no lounge access and no published reward rate — BOI advertises the same bare multiplier here as everywhere else — so this is a credit-builder and a travel-safe backup, not a rewards card. For a reader with no bureau file and a deposit already at Bank of India, the price is zero.

Keep, downgrade or cancel

what we can and cannot price

Not valued. We can't value this card until the issuer publishes how it earns — every net-value number here would be a fee subtracted from rewards nobody has described. A break-even is the spend at which value crosses a fee, and we are short one side of that sentence — so this desk prints no ladder, no crossing and no ₹0 standing in for either. What we can source about this card is under Sources.

The downgrade

Bank of India publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and we cannot price either side of it.

If you call to cancel

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • Nothing to issue, nothing a year, nothing for an add-on card — and nothing to replace it, an exemption written into BOI's own charge schedule
  • Issued against a term deposit receipt, so no credit history is needed
  • Revolving credit at 1.20% a month (15.40% a year) against 2% a month on BOI's unsecured cards
  • Accepted worldwide, with ₹15,000 a day of ATM cash at any location globally
  • Bank of India's foreign-currency conversion charge is 3%, under the 3.5% most Indian issuers charge

Watch out

  • No lounge access of any kind is published for this card
  • No base earn rate and no point value are published, so the reward side cannot be valued, ranked or compared
  • Your money is locked in the term deposit for as long as you hold the card
  • Over-limit usage on the secured line still costs 1.70% a month (22.45% a year)
  • The bank's live site is behind a bot challenge that blocks automated readers, so these terms were verified against the Internet Archive's copy

What these points actually fly

Bank of India has not published what this card earns, so there are no points here to fly with — not zero points, and not points that go nowhere: nothing stated either way. The moment a benefit sheet exists we will price whatever it names.

Not confirmed on sale — the issuer still documents this card but we could not confirm it is open to new applications. Treat any application path with care.

The card is issued against a term deposit receipt only — that is the whole underwriting. Beyond it, BOI opens the card to individuals, staff and non-staff, private and public limited companies and partnership firms, and states a steady income verifiable through income-tax returns. Billing runs from the 16th to the 15th with payment by the 5th of the following month, and the card must be activated within 30 days of issue.

Row 14 here: "Annual Charges SwaDhan Platinum International Credit Card - Principal Including – Add-on Card — FREE", and row 15 carves this card out of the ₹300 replacement fee explicitly: "Any variant excluding SwaDhan Card". Row 18 splits the interest rate by security, which is where the 1.20%/mo comes from. Issued against a Term Deposit Receipt only.
