₹499 buys eight domestic lounge visits and two international ones. The catch is the network, not the price.

₹1,900
at ₹0.25L/month
₹4,800
at ₹0.4L/month
₹8,600
at ₹1L/month

Read the ₹0.4L figure carefully: ₹2,500 of its ₹4,800 gross is a voucher or a hotel night, not points — worth that only if you would have bought it anyway.

Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied: it earns nothing on fuel here, so that spend is dropped, not paid at the headline, and stops pacing milestones and the waiver. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Breaks even only by erasing its fee at ₹5,000 a month

At ₹5,000 a month — ₹60,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹300 gross (earn ₹300) against a fee of ₹0 — the ₹499 is waived, the spend having cleared ₹50,000 a year = ₹300 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

Union Bank of India · JCB · entry

JCB

Why #172 ₹499 for eight domestic and two international lounge visits is the best lounge-per-rupee ratio on the board. Ranked beside its JCB sibling because the earn is worse and the network is the same problem.

₹499 + GST
Annual fee1
₹50,000 spend
Fee waiver

₹0.25 a point, printed on the card's own benefits table as "2 points (1 Reward Point = Rs. 0.25)". Redemption is a gift voucher or a credit against your own bill through Union Rewardz — Union Bank publishes no airline or hotel partner on any card it issues.

The take

On pure lounge-per-rupee this is the best card on the board: ₹499, waived above ₹50,000 of annual spend, for eight domestic visits a year and two international. Nothing else at the price comes close — ICICI Coral costs ₹500 for one domestic visit a quarter behind a ₹75,000 spend gate and no international access at all. There is also a milestone rule that is quietly the most generous thing on the Union shelf: 2,000 points for every ₹50,000 spent beyond ₹2 lakh in a year, which is a straight extra 1% on everything above that line, and Union Bank publishes no ceiling on it. Base earn, by contrast, is 0.5% — two points per ₹100 at ₹0.25 — and the points redeem for vouchers or against your own statement, because this bank names no airline or hotel partner on any card it issues. Forex is 3%. And the network is JCB: excellent in Japan, workable across parts of East and Southeast Asia, thin everywhere else, which sits oddly beside two international lounge visits. Union Bank has not reconciled its own copy either — the page's lounge sign-up steps point at RuPay's Select programme and the UPI row calls it a RuPay card. The health bundle the card is named for (teleconsultations, a diagnostic package, a dietician, car services, appliance repair, dark-web email monitoring) is what Union Bank prices at ₹31,750 a year and what you should price at whatever you would actually use. Keep it as a cheap lounge key. Keep.

Your renewal — keep, downgrade or cancel

This card reaches break-even by ERASING its fee, not by out-earning it: the waiver is the decision.

₹50,000 annual spend erases that fee

₹499/yr at stake · 5 spend bands

The charge ₹499/yr

The waiver ₹50,000 of spend in the year before renewal — about ₹4,167 a month — and the renewal fee is not charged.

Break-even ₹5,000 a month — ₹60,000 a year — is where this card's value crosses its fee, and it gets there by erasing the fee at the waiver rather than out-earning it.

At your spend

₹1,900 a year, net of the fee, at ₹3,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

₹5,800 a year, net of the fee, at ₹6,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

₹8,600 a year, net of the fee, at ₹12,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

₹19,900 a year, net of the fee, at ₹36,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

₹31,200 a year, net of the fee, at ₹60,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

Everyday earn plus milestones, minus the fee — the same model as the value panel above, so the two cannot disagree. run your exact spend →

The downgrade

Union Bank of India publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

If you call to cancel

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • 8 domestic lounge visits a year (2 a quarter) plus 2 international, for ₹499
  • Fee waived above ₹50,000 of previous-year spend
  • 2,000 bonus points for EVERY ₹50,000 spent beyond ₹2 lakh a year — an extra 1%, uncapped
  • ₹10 lakh of accidental cover at NPCI's cost
  • Teleconsultations, a diagnostic package, car services and dark-web email monitoring

Watch out

  • 0.5% base earn — 2 points per ₹100 at ₹0.25; fuel earns nothing at all
  • JCB acceptance is strong in Japan and thin almost everywhere else
  • 3% forex, on a card whose network you may not be able to use abroad
  • Union Rewardz has NO airline or hotel partner — the points only pay your own bill
  • The page's lounge sign-up instructions point at RuPay's Select programme, not JCB — the bank has not reconciled its own copy

What these points actually fly

No live transfer route takes Union Rewardz Points into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

Does your spend count toward the fee waiver?

not published — and we say which

₹50,000 a year is the bar that waives the ₹499 fee. A different question from the one above — earning points and counting toward a threshold are separate rules, and issuers write them separately.

Not published. Union Bank of India states what the Union JCB Health earns and does not earn, but has not published which spend categories count toward the fee waiver and the milestones — the ₹50,000 bar. We won't guess it from the earn table or from a sibling card: Axis published three cards' rules on one day and all three lists differed. If you hold this card and have it in writing from the issuer, send us the document and we'll source it.
