What it's worth to you, after the fee
Welcome: Not published — HDFC lists no welcome benefit for the Select variant, only the quarterly ₹500 voucher
Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied: it earns nothing on fuel here, so that spend is dropped, not paid at the headline, and stops pacing milestones and the waiver. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Pays for itself at ₹9,000 a month
At ₹9,000 a month — ₹1,08,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹1,000 gross (earn ₹1,000) against its ₹1,000 fee = ₹0 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.
1 notes on the card itself: how it is issued
A CashPoint is a rupee and HDFC says so contractually: "Every Re.1 Cashpoint is equivalent to Re.1 Cashback", redeemed against your statement at a 500-point minimum with no handling charge. Every other exit is worse. SmartBuy flights and hotels, Airmiles and the product catalogue all pay ₹0.30, the catalogue route costs ₹99 + taxes to use, and points can cover at most 50% of a travel booking. There is a transfer avenue here and taking it costs you seventy per cent, which is exactly why this card is admitted on its lounge and its Paytm travel rate and not on its points.
The take
Strip out the Paytm branding and this is a competent ₹1,000 lounge card with a travel accelerator bolted on. Eight complimentary domestic lounge visits a calendar year, no quarterly split and no spend gate published — which makes the quota genuinely eight, unlike the PhonePe Ultimo's, where each pair has to be earned with ₹75,000 of quarterly spend. 5% back on Paytm recharges, utilities, movies and travel; 3% at Swiggy, AJIO, BigBasket and Uber; 1% on everything else. And the fee is easy to make disappear twice over: ₹50,000 of non-EMI spend in 90 days kills year one, ₹1.5 lakh over twelve months kills every year after. What stops it ranking higher is the ceiling, which HDFC has lowered three separate times and never in a press release. The 5% stops at 1,500 CashPoints a month, the 3% at 500 and the 1% at 2,000 — and then overall redemption is capped at 3,000 points a month regardless, so you can earn 4,000 and cash out 3,000. Rent and education stopped earning on 1 January 2023, groceries are capped at 1,000 a month, and select categories now demand a 70/30 points-plus-pay split. The one thing to check before applying: the product page's call to action reads Enquire Now, not Apply Now. HDFC has hung no closure banner on it and the card still holds a live row in the August 2026 MITC, so we carry it as open — but a lead form is not an application, and a reader should treat availability as the open question here.

The downgrade
HDFC Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.
What has changed under this card
- 1 Sep 2026 SmartBuy moves Amazon Pay gift cards to 1X under Insta Deals issuer-wide
- 1 Jul 2026 HDFC caps SmartBuy brand-voucher rewards issuer-wide

If you call to cancel
What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →
The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.
What's good
- 8 complimentary domestic lounge visits a calendar year — no quarterly split, no spend gate
- 5% CashPoints on Paytm recharges, utilities, travel, movies and Mini App
- 1 CashPoint = ₹1 against your statement, with no redemption handling charge
- ₹500 of gift vouchers every calendar quarter you spend ₹50,000
- First-year fee waived at ₹50,000 in 90 days; renewal waived at ₹1.5 lakh a year
Watch out
- Three separate monthly caps — 1,500 CashPoints on the 5%, 500 on the 3%, 2,000 on the 1%
- Overall redemption is capped at 3,000 CashPoints a month, below what the card can accrue
- SmartBuy travel, Airmiles and the catalogue pay ₹0.30 where your statement pays ₹1
- Nothing on wallet loads, fuel, EMI, rent or education; groceries capped at 1,000 CashPoints a month
- Select categories carry a 70% points + 30% cash floor on redemption
- 3.5% forex, and points can cover at most 50% of a SmartBuy flight or hotel booking
- The product page says Enquire Now, not Apply Now — verify the card is still being sourced before you plan around it
What these points actually fly
No live transfer route takes HDFC Bank CashPoints into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.
what the cards that DO reach a chart can fly — 2,196 corridors priced →
What earns, what doesn't
9 sourced rules · 4 pay zero
- Fuel · excluded "CashBack is not applicable for wallet loads, fuel spends, EMI spends, rental spends and education spends"; a 1% fuel-surcharge waiver applies instead, min ₹400, max ₹500 a statement cycle
- Wallet loads · excluded Named in the card's CashBack T&C as ineligible
- Rent & property management · excluded "Effective January 01, 2023 … No CashBack on rental and educational spending" — the older Paytm feature T&C's 1%-capped-at-500 rule is superseded
- Utilities (electricity/water/gas) · capped 5% CashPoints — 5 CashPoints per ₹100, a CashPoint being a rupee against the statement — on utility bills paid inside Paytm, capped at 1,500 CashPoints a calendar month. That ceiling is SHARED across the whole Paytm bucket (recharge, utility, travel, movies and Mini App) and HDFC publishes no split of it, so none of it belongs to a utility bill alone; the same bill paid outside Paytm earns the 1% base
Does your spend count toward the fee waiver?
not published — and we say which
₹1,50,000 a year is the bar that waives the ₹1,000 fee. A different question from the one above — earning points and counting toward a threshold are separate rules, and issuers write them separately.
Not published. HDFC Bank states what the Paytm HDFC Bank Select earns and does not earn, but has not published which spend categories count toward the fee waiver — the ₹1,50,000 bar. We won't guess it from the earn table or from a sibling card: Axis published three cards' rules on one day and all three lists differed. If you hold this card and have it in writing from the issuer, send us the document and we'll source it.

The fine print

What the MITC actually says — the rates, fees and cutoffs the brochure skips.
Annual membership fee ₹1,000 + GST, and TWO different waiver tests: the first-year fee goes on ₹50,000 of non-EMI spend within 90 days, the renewal on ₹1,50,000 of non-EMI spend over 12 months. Earn is 5% CashPoints on Paytm recharge, utility, TRAVEL, movies and Mini App capped at 1,500 CashPoints a calendar month; 3% on Swiggy, AJIO, BigBasket and Uber capped at 500; 1% on all other retail capped at 2,000 — and the 5% is scoped to a published Merchant-ID annexure in which "Paytm Travel" is its own named category. Nothing at all on wallet loads, fuel, EMI, rent or education, the last two dropped on 1 January 2023; grocery accrual capped at 1,000 CashPoints a month. A CashPoint is ₹1 against the statement balance ("Every Re.1 Cashpoint is equivalent to Re.1 Cashback", 500-point minimum, no handling charge) and ₹0.30 on SmartBuy flights and hotels, Airmiles and the product catalogue, where a ₹99 + taxes handling charge also applies and points can cover at most 50% of a booking. Unredeemed CashPoints lapse 2 years after accumulation. Three redemption ceilings sit on top: travel redemption capped at 50,000 points a month since 1 January 2023, overall redemption capped at 3,000 points a month since 1 February 2023, and a 70% points + 30% cash floor on selected categories from the same date. Lounge access is 8 complimentary domestic visits a calendar year with no quarterly split and no spend gate published. Quarterly benefit ₹500 of gift vouchers on ₹50,000 of non-EMI, non-rental spend. Fuel-surcharge waiver 1%, min ₹400 transaction, max ₹500 a statement cycle. AVAILABILITY: the product page's call to action reads "Enquire Now" rather than "Apply Now" and carries no closure banner, while the card still holds a live row in HDFC's August 2026 MITC — carried as open, with the discrepancy stated rather than resolved.

- 1 Sept 2026SmartBuy moves Amazon Pay gift cards to 1X under Insta DealsAmazon Pay Gift Voucher sat in SmartBuy's accelerated tier — 'up to 5X Reward Points or 5% cashback' → 'Insta Deals: 1 % Instant Discount + 1X Reward Points' — this brand is out of the accelerated tier
The most-farmed HDFC voucher route stopped being a points play. SmartBuy's own voucher storefront now shows the Amazon Pay Gift Voucher under a new "Insta Deals" tile reading "1 % Instant Discount + 1X Reward Points", and the page's own description flipped from "up to 5X Reward Points or 5% cashback" to "up to 1X". The comparison that settles it sits on the same storefront: the Amazon Fresh voucher still carries an "Accelerated Rewards — Upto 5X Reward Points RPs / 5% Cashback" block that the Amazon Pay page no longer has, so this is one brand leaving the accelerated tier, not the tier closing. The date, honestly: the Insta Deals offer ("Flat 1% OFF", ₹10,000 monthly limit) was already live in the page's own data on 31 August 2026, the reward line still read 5X in the 1 September 16:26 UTC archive capture, and read 1X when this desk fetched the page on 2 September — so 1 September is the community's effective date sitting inside a window we can bracket from primary captures, not a figure HDFC published. The bank has announced nothing and no SmartBuy page carries a notice. Two pieces of context for the size of it: brand vouchers were already sub-capped at 3,000 accelerated points a month from 1 July 2026, and Amazon Pay vouchers disappeared from the portal entirely for stretches of July and August before returning in this shape. Flipkart and Amazon Fresh vouchers still pay the accelerated rate; the ₹10,000-a-month Amazon Pay lane now pays base earn plus the 1% instant discount.
