Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Breaks even only by erasing its fee at ₹3,000 a month
At ₹3,000 a month — ₹36,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹100 gross (earn ₹100) against a fee of ₹0 — the ₹350 is waived, the spend having cleared ₹30,000 a year = ₹100 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.
3 notes on the card itself: how it is issued · the network variants · why it ranks #374
Why #374 The bottom rung of Union's Visa ladder and the lowest published earn rate on the whole board: 0.25%. The ₹450 Platinum pays twice as much and waives its fee at ₹50,000 — there is no spend at which this card is the right one of the two.
₹0.25 a point, from the card's own benefits table — "Reward points per Rs. 100 spent / 1 point (1 Reward point = Rs. 0.25)". Redemption is the Union Rewardz app or unionrewardz.com for merchandise, gift vouchers, "travel experiences" or a credit against your own bill. Union Bank names no airline, no hotel and no transfer partner on any card it issues.
The take
This is Union Bank's entry Visa and the lowest published reward rate on our board: one point per ₹100, worth ₹0.25, which is a quarter of one percent. Nothing to join, ₹350 a year, waived above ₹30,000 of spend in the previous twelve months — the cheapest waiver bar Union sets, so in practice the card is free to hold. The published benefit set is four rows: ₹5 lakh of accidental death cover with the premium on the cardholder, the 0.25% reward rate, a 1% fuel-surcharge waiver capped at ₹100 a billing cycle, and up to three add-on cards at ₹250 each. The reason to skip it is one row down Union's own price list. VISA Platinum costs ₹450 instead of ₹350, pays 2 points per ₹100 instead of 1, carries ₹10 lakh of cover instead of ₹5 lakh, and waives its fee at ₹50,000 of annual spend. Both are effectively free at any spend that makes a rewards card worth carrying, so the ₹100 of nominal difference is a price nobody actually pays — and the Platinum simply pays double. There is no spend level at which the Gold is the better of the two. If what you want from Union is a free RuPay card on UPI, the RuPay Platinum is ₹350 with the same 0.5% and the NPCI-borne insurance; if you want the highest Union rate, the Signature pays 1%. No lounge access is published for this card anywhere — not on the page, not in the 25-Sep-2025 MITC, not in the Key Fact Statement — and Union Rewardz points have no airline or hotel partner of any kind.
Your renewal — keep, downgrade or cancel
This card reaches break-even by ERASING its fee, not by out-earning it: the waiver is the decision.
Keep, downgrade or cancel
₹350/yr at stake · 5 spend bands
The charge ₹0 joining, then ₹350/yr
The waiver ₹30,000 of spend in the year before renewal — about ₹2,500 a month — and the renewal fee is not charged.
Break-even ₹3,000 a month — ₹36,000 a year — is where this card's value crosses its fee, and it gets there by erasing the fee at the waiver rather than out-earning it.
At your spend
₹800 a year, net of the fee, at ₹3,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged
₹1,500 a year, net of the fee, at ₹6,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged
₹3,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹12,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged
₹9,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹36,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged
₹15,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹60,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

The downgrade
Union Bank of India publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.
If you call to cancel
What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →
The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.
What's good
- NIL joining fee; ₹350 a year waived above ₹30,000 of previous-year spend — Union's lowest bar
- ₹5 lakh of accidental death cover
- 3% forex, against the 3.5% Indian norm
- 1% fuel-surcharge waiver, capped at ₹100 a billing cycle
- Up to 3 add-on cards for spouse, children and parents at ₹250 a year each
Watch out
- 0.25% — one reward point per ₹100 — the lowest published earn rate on this board
- The ₹450 VISA Platinum pays exactly twice as much and carries twice the insurance; at any spend that waives either fee it strictly dominates this card
- NO lounge access is published — not on the page, not in the MITC, not in the Key Fact Statement
- Union Rewardz has NO airline or hotel partner — the points only pay your own bill or buy vouchers
- No welcome benefit and no milestone ladder are published
- Cash withdrawal is limited to 20% of the credit limit, the tightest on Union's shelf
What these points actually fly
No live transfer route takes Union Rewardz Points into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

Does your spend count toward the fee waiver?
not published — and we say which
₹30,000 a year is the bar that waives the ₹350 fee. A different question from the one above — earning points and counting toward a threshold are separate rules, and issuers write them separately.
Not published. Union Bank of India states what the Union Bank VISA Gold earns, but has not published which spend categories count toward the fee waiver — the ₹30,000 bar. We won't guess it from the earn table or from a sibling card: Axis published three cards' rules on one day and all three lists differed. If you hold this card and have it in writing from the issuer, send us the document and we'll source it.

The fine print
7 of 7 MITC rows published
What the MITC actually says — the rates, fees and cutoffs the brochure skips.
MITC v1.4 (effective 25 Sep 2025), fee grid verbatim: "VISA Gold · NIL · NIL · Rs. 350/- · Rs. 250/-" under the two headings "Admission / Joining Fee (Primary | Add on)" and "Annual Fee (Primary | Add on)". The published NIL joining line beside a real ₹350 renewal is our published-nil-fee rule's renewal-only shape. Annual fee waived above ₹30,000 of previous-12-month usage — the lowest bar Union sets. Card replacement ₹149. Accidental death cover ₹5,00,000, premium borne by the cardholder. The word "lounge" does not appear in this document once, for any Union card. CIBIL 700+ unless issued against a deposit lien.
