What it's worth to you, after the fee
Welcome: ₹500 gift voucher on ₹5,000 of spend within 30 days of paying the joining fee, 1,000 Reward Points on the first EMI conversion, a year of Gold Max membership worth ₹800, and up to ₹1,500 off flight and hotel bookings for new issuances from 1 Feb 2025
Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied: it earns nothing on fuel here, so that spend is dropped, not paid at the headline, and stops pacing milestones and the waiver. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Pays for itself at ₹5,000 a month
At ₹5,000 a month — ₹60,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹600 gross (earn ₹600) against its ₹499 fee = ₹100 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.
3 notes on the card itself: how it is issued · the network variants · why it ranks #205
Why #205 Four railway lounges a quarter is a real gate-1 benefit and the app travel bonus is generous, but this is a ₹499 card with no fee waiver, no published base earn rate, and a milestone grid that pays 1.7% exactly at a threshold and half that just below the next one. The four airport lounges everyone quotes are a referral prize, not a card benefit.
SWYP publishes NO base points-per-₹ rate anywhere — unlike LIC Select (₹125) and Power+ (₹150), which print theirs. Its earn is the monthly milestone grid, so the rate below is derived from that grid rather than quoted: the reward is fixed within each spend band, so a holder gets 1.67% landing exactly on a threshold and 0.83% just short of the next one, averaging about 1.1% across a band. The grid also STOPS: 4,000 points is the most any cycle can pay, no matter how far past ₹60,000 you spend. Points redeem at the house ₹0.25 — SWYP has no in-app travel rung above it — and, unusually for IDFC, never expire.
The take
SWYP is an EMI-first card sold to young spenders, and two things about it are routinely reported wrongly. The first is the lounge. Every listing gives SWYP "4 complimentary domestic airport lounge visits" — that is the reward for your TENTH successful referral, spelled out in IDFC's own referral document, valid a year from the date it posts, and it is not a benefit of holding the card. What the card actually gives is four railway lounge visits a calendar quarter, and only if you spent ₹20,000 in the previous calendar month. The second is the fee: this is not a subscription card. IDFC's MITC prints ₹499 joining and ₹499 annual, and there is no spend-based waiver at all — the "annual offer" of 2,000 points on ₹5,000 of spend after the fee is levied offsets ₹500 of it, which is not the same thing. The earn is the strangest part of the shelf: SWYP publishes no points-per-₹ rate anywhere, only a monthly milestone grid, and because the reward is flat within each band the effective rate swings between 1.67% at a threshold and 0.83% just under the next one. Spend ₹29,999 in a cycle and you earn exactly what ₹15,000 would have earned. And the grid stops: 4,000 points is the top rung, so a ₹60,000 month and a ₹3,00,000 month pay identically — ₹1,000 of points either way. Railway, FASTag, fuel, education, UPI and cash are all excluded from that grid. What is genuinely good: hotels booked in the IDFC app carry a 25% bonus — 25 points per ₹100, over 6% at ₹0.25 — and the points never expire, which no other IDFC card offers. Hold it for the app travel bonus and the railway lounges, and only if you will clear the thresholds.

The downgrade
IDFC FIRST Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

What's good
- 4 complimentary railway lounge visits a calendar quarter
- 25% bonus on hotels booked in the IDFC app — 25 points per ₹100, over 6% at ₹0.25
- Reward Points never expire, alone on the IDFC shelf
- Up to 4,000 Reward Points a cycle from the monthly milestone grid
- Revolving credit is switched off by design — a flat monthly EMI fee replaces interest
Watch out
- The '4 airport lounge visits' is the 10th-REFERRAL prize, not a card benefit — you cannot buy it, you have to recruit ten people
- The railway lounge quota needs ₹20,000 of spend in the current calendar month to work the next one
- ₹499 to join and ₹499 a year with NO spend-based waiver of any kind
- The milestone reward is flat inside each band — ₹29,999 of spend earns exactly what ₹15,000 earns
- The grid STOPS at 4,000 points a cycle: past ₹60,000 of monthly spend, SWYP pays nothing more at all
- IDFC publishes no base points-per-₹ rate for this card at all; the rate here is derived from the milestone grid
- Railway, FASTag, fuel, education, UPI and cash withdrawals are all excluded from the milestone grid
- UPI earns only after you pay ₹199 + GST to enable it, and never counts toward milestones
- 0% forex markup — the 9 Sep 2026 MITC prints NIL on foreign-currency transactions and on dynamic and static currency conversion
- Closed loop — zero airline or hotel transfer partners, like every IDFC card
What these points actually fly
No live transfer route takes IDFC FIRST Reward Points into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

What earns, what doesn't
3 sourced rules · 1 pay zero
SWYP does not publish a per-transaction earn rate at all — the whole reward construct is a monthly milestone ladder (200 RP above ₹5,000 of spend, 500 above ₹10,000, 1,000 above ₹15,000, 2,000 above ₹30,000, 4,000 above ₹60,000, total and not incremental). So the question that matters for this card is not what a category EARNS but whether it COUNTS: "Monthly Milestone Rewards not applicable on Railway spends, FASTag Recharges, Fuel, Education spends, UPI Transactions and Cash withdrawal." That is a GATE answer, but the ladder itself is not modelled in the card's `milestones`, so it is recorded in these notes rather than in a `qualifying:` block that would claim a bar the card file does not carry. Categories the guide does not name stay absent rather than guessed.
- Fuel · excluded Named in the milestone exclusion sentence, and the milestone ladder is the entire earn construct — so fuel pays nothing twice over. A 1% surcharge waiver capped at ₹200 a cycle applies, and a 1% fee once fuel spend passes ₹30,000.
- Education · reduced Struck out of the monthly milestone grid and given its own smaller ladder instead — up to 800 reward points on ₹40,000 of combined education, FASTag and railway spend per billing cycle, which is 2 RP per ₹100 vs the 4.4 RP per ₹100 that grid averages. A 1% fee (min ₹249) applies to third-party education apps.
- UPI (RuPay-on-UPI only) · reduced 100 RP per ₹5,000 of UPI spend, and only after paying ₹199 + GST to enable UPI — then struck out of the milestone count, so every rupee routed through UPI is a rupee that stops counting toward the ₹60,000 top rung

A public application from IDFC's SWYP page, aimed at first-time and younger cardholders, with the ₹499 joining fee payable before the card is issued. One structural thing to understand before applying: SWYP has no revolving credit — the MITC states that "In FIRST SWYP Credit Card, revolving credit facility is not available for card member", so balances convert to EMI at a flat monthly fee rather than carrying interest. Late payment charges still run to ₹6,000. UPI is a paid add-on at ₹199 + GST a year.

What the MITC actually says — the rates, fees and cutoffs the brochure skips.
Joining ₹499 and annual ₹499, with no spend waiver published. The card that cannot revolve is also the card with the biggest late fee: no interest line at all, but a ₹6,000 late-payment ceiling. Fuel-surcharge waiver 1% on ₹200–₹5,000 transactions, capped at ₹200 a statement cycle. Category fees: 1% on rent (min ₹249), 1% on utility past ₹20,000 a cycle, 1% on fuel past ₹30,000, 1% on railway past ₹25,000, 1% on tolls past ₹10,000, 1% (min ₹249) on third-party education apps. Card replacement ₹199. The MITC's 24-month reward-expiry clause names six cards and SWYP is not among them, so no validity is published for it here.

IDFC's retail credit-card MITC, re-saved 9 September 2026, replaces the old per-card forex table with one NIL row covering foreign-currency transactions and dynamic and static currency conversion. The commercial and corporate MITCs, re-saved 7 September, print Nil or 0% for the business and corporate cards. Ashva's brochure, re-issued 10 September, says the same and also cuts that card's international earn from 5 reward points per ₹150 to 2X. A widely reported 26 October cut to international reward earning is not in any of those documents, so it is not on the cards. Cards that were already Nil — Mayura, Gaj, WOW, WOW Black, FIRST Private, Diamond Reserve — did not move.
