Welcome: ₹500 cashback on each of your first three purchases within 90 days of onboarding — minimum ₹2,000 a transaction, and only on Flipkart Wholesale's online platforms

Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied: it earns nothing on fuel here, so that spend is dropped, not paid at the headline, and stops pacing milestones and the waiver. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — and a business card's accelerator is usually the point. This card is not on the board, which ranks personal cards only; it is ranked against other business cards on /best/business, where the tax, GST and vendor-payment rungs ARE credited and its ₹ reads higher.

Pays for itself at ₹5,000 a month

At ₹5,000 a month — ₹60,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹600 gross (earn ₹600) against its ₹499 fee = ₹100 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

2 notes on the card itself: how it is issued · why it ranks #223

HDFC Bank · Not published · entry

Why #223 Free to take, ₹499 a year to keep, and 5% on a wholesale marketplace most readers will never open — this is a kirana owner's card, not a consumer's. It earns its place on the board because the 5% is real and generously capped at ₹2,000 a month, and it ranks here because there is no lounge, no partner and nothing that reaches an airport.

Our #3 for Business — 1 of the 23 questions this desk ranks.

₹499 + GST
Annual fee1
₹3,00,000 spend
Fee waiver

The earn accrues and is auto-redeemed rather than paid as money: HDFC's own reward block says "CashBack accrued per calendar month auto redeemed in successive statements" and "Unredeemed Reward Points will expire/lapse after 2 years of accumulation" — the CashPoints programme's own two-year fuse. At ₹1 against the statement that is a clean rupee; HDFC's standing redemption ceilings (1,000 points a month on grocery accrual, 50,000 on travel redemption) sit behind it.

The take

This is a business card for people who buy stock on Flipkart Wholesale, and judged on that job it is well built. There is no joining fee at all — HDFC prints "Joining Fee: NIL" — so the card costs nothing until its first renewal, and even then ₹499 reverses on ₹3,00,000 of spend before the renewal date, which a working retailer clears easily. The headline is 5% on Flipkart Wholesale online spends capped at ₹2,000 a calendar month, and that ceiling is unusually generous by Indian standards: it takes ₹40,000 of wholesale buying a month to reach it, which is a plausible rather than a fantasy number for the customer this card is aimed at. Read the second 5% more carefully, because it looks the same and is not: telecom, utility, government and tax payments also earn 5%, but on a ₹250-a-month ceiling — eight times smaller — so that leg is worth about ₹3,000 a year and is effectively a rounding error on a tax payment. Everything else earns 1% against a ceiling high enough never to matter. The welcome is the best part of year one: ₹500 back on each of your first three purchases inside 90 days, minimum ₹2,000 each, Flipkart Wholesale online only — ₹1,500 on a card that has cost you nothing. What it is not is a travel card in any respect: no lounge, no transfer partner, no points that reach an airline or a hotel, and a 1% mark-up on every international dynamic-currency transaction. Rent and education have earned nothing since 1 January 2023, and rent carries a 1% fee from the second rental transaction of a month on top. One caveat on the earn that HDFC states rather than hides: only merchants on the ID list Flipkart Wholesale supplies qualify for the accelerated rates, and that list is maintained rather than published.

The downgrade

HDFC Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

What has changed under this card

  • 1 Sep 2026 SmartBuy moves Amazon Pay gift cards to 1X under Insta Deals issuer-wide
  • 1 Jul 2026 HDFC caps SmartBuy brand-voucher rewards issuer-wide
  • 15 May 2026 HDFC lifts its DCC markup to 1.75% across the card range issuer-wide

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • No joining fee at all — HDFC prints 'Joining Fee: NIL' and charges only at renewal
  • 5% on Flipkart Wholesale online spends, capped at a generous ₹2,000 a calendar month
  • ₹500 cashback on each of your first three purchases within 90 days, minimum ₹2,000 each
  • ₹499 renewal fee waived on ₹3,00,000 of spend before the renewal date
  • 1% on everything else, on a ceiling high enough that it never binds

Watch out

  • The second 5% is a trap for the eye: telecom, utility, government and tax payments cap at ₹250 a month, not ₹2,000 — about ₹3,000 a year
  • Only merchants on the ID list Flipkart Wholesale supplies to HDFC earn the accelerated rates, and that list is maintained rather than published
  • Rent and education have earned nothing since 1 January 2023, and rent carries a 1% fee from the second rental transaction of a calendar month
  • The earn accrues as points that lapse after two years, and HDFC's standing redemption ceilings apply — 1,000 points a month on grocery accrual, 50,000 on travel redemption
  • No lounge access, no transfer partner, no airline or hotel programme
  • 1% mark-up on all international dynamic-currency-conversion transactions
  • Education payments through third-party apps carry a 1% fee, capped at ₹3,000 a transaction
  • It is sold on HDFC's business shelf and priced around a Flipkart Wholesale account — a consumer with no wholesale buying gets 1% and nothing else

What these points actually fly

No live transfer route takes HDFC Bank CashPoints into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

What earns, what doesn't

8 sourced rules · 3 pay zero

TWO 5% LEGS OF VERY DIFFERENT SIZE, and the second is the trap for the eye: Flipkart Wholesale online spends cap at ₹2,000 a month, while telecom, utility, government and tax payments cap at ₹250 — eight times smaller, worth about ₹3,000 a year. Accelerated rates apply only to "the mentioned categories basis the Merchant IDs / Terminal IDs in the list shared by Flipkart Wholesale Partner".

Fuel excluded — 1% fuel surcharge waiver only, on a minimum ₹400 transaction, up to ₹250 a statement cycle
Rent & property management excluded — Rent has earned nothing since 1 January 2023 and carries a 1% fee from the second rental transaction of a calendar month
Government / tax accelerated — 5% on government and tax payments, inside the same ₹250-a-month ceiling SHARED with telecom and utility bills — HDFC's own line is "5% CashBack on Telecom, Utility, Govt & Tax Payments up to Rs. 250 per month", one cap for the leg with no published split, so none of it belongs to government or tax alone. Unusual: most Indian cards exclude government spends outright
Utilities (electricity/water/gas) accelerated — 5% inside the same ₹250-a-month ceiling — a tenth of what the Flipkart Wholesale leg allows
Insurance not applicable
Education excluded — Education has earned nothing since 1 January 2023, and third-party education apps carry a 1% fee capped at ₹3,000 a transaction
Wallet loads not applicable

Telecom accelerated — 5%, but capped at ₹250 a calendar month across telecom, utility, government and tax payments combined
Jewellery / gold not applicable
Forex / international spends not applicable
UPI (RuPay-on-UPI only) not applicable
EMI conversions / merchant EMI not applicable

Does your spend count toward the fee waiver?

not published — and we say which

₹3,00,000 a year is the bar that waives the ₹499 fee. A different question from the one above — earning points and counting toward a threshold are separate rules, and issuers write them separately.

Not published. HDFC Bank states what the Flipkart Wholesale HDFC Bank earns and does not earn, but has not published which spend categories count toward the fee waiver — the ₹3,00,000 bar. We won't guess it from the earn table or from a sibling card: Axis published three cards' rules on one day and all three lists differed. If you hold this card and have it in writing from the issuer, send us the document and we'll source it.

A business card, listed on HDFC's business-credit-cards shelf and built around a Flipkart Wholesale account rather than a personal profile. The fee shape is the thing to understand before applying, and it is genuinely good: HDFC's own fees page prints "Joining Fee: NIL" and "Renewal Fee: ₹499 plus applicable taxes", so the card costs nothing to take and only bills you a year later — and even then, "Spend Rs.3,00,000 or more in a year, before your Credit Card renewal date and get your renewal fee waived off." Our fee model cannot render "₹0 to join, ₹499 to renew" as two numbers, so the stat block shows ₹499; the first year is free. The welcome benefit is time-boxed and channel-boxed — ₹500 back on each of the first three purchases within 90 days of onboarding, minimum ₹2,000 a transaction, and "spends limited to Flipkart Wholesale online platforms only" — so it is worth planning the first three orders around.

HDFC Bank publishes no income or age cutoffs for this card. Blank means blank — we don't invent numbers to fill a grid.

A GENUINE NIL JOINING FEE, sourced twice: "Joining Fee: NIL" in the fee block and "Flipkart Wholesale HDFC Bank Credit Card does not have any joining fee" in the page's own FAQ, against "Renewal Fee: ₹499 plus applicable taxes" waived on ₹3,00,000 of spend before the renewal date. Our feeShape() coerces an absent joiningFee and an explicit 0 to the same thing (our fee model records the limitation), so the card file omits the key and the stat block prints ₹499 — the first year is in fact free. EARN, and the two 5% legs are NOT the same size: 5% on Flipkart Wholesale online spends capped at ₹2,000 a month, but 5% on telecom, utility, government and tax payments capped at only ₹250 a month — eight times smaller, worth about ₹3,000 a year. 1% on all other spends against a 25,000-a-month ceiling that never binds in practice. Welcome: ₹500 cashback on each of the first three purchases within 90 days of onboarding, minimum ₹2,000 each, Flipkart Wholesale online platforms only. Rent and education have earned nothing since 1 Jan 2023, and rent carries a 1% fee from the second rental transaction of a calendar month; third-party education apps carry a 1% fee capped at ₹3,000 a transaction. Grocery accrual is capped at 1,000 points a month and travel redemption at 50,000 points a month; unredeemed points lapse after 2 years. Accelerated rates apply only to "the mentioned categories basis the Merchant IDs / Terminal IDs in the list shared by Flipkart Wholesale Partner". CURRENCY NOTE: this page never says "CashPoints", but the mechanism it describes — monthly accrual auto-redeemed to the statement, a two-year lapse, the 1,000-a-month grocery cap and the 50,000-a-month travel redemption cap — is HDFC's CashPoints programme item for item, which is what the card file's currency follows from. NO LOUNGE. Fuel surcharge 1%, min ₹400, max ₹250 a statement cycle.

    Devaluation moderate HDFC Bank
SmartBuy moves Amazon Pay gift cards to 1X under Insta Deals
Amazon Pay Gift Voucher sat in SmartBuy's accelerated tier — 'up to 5X Reward Points or 5% cashback' → 'Insta Deals: 1 % Instant Discount + 1X Reward Points' — this brand is out of the accelerated tier

The most-farmed HDFC voucher route stopped being a points play. SmartBuy's own voucher storefront now shows the Amazon Pay Gift Voucher under a new "Insta Deals" tile reading "1 % Instant Discount + 1X Reward Points", and the page's own description flipped from "up to 5X Reward Points or 5% cashback" to "up to 1X". The comparison that settles it sits on the same storefront: the Amazon Fresh voucher still carries an "Accelerated Rewards — Upto 5X Reward Points RPs / 5% Cashback" block that the Amazon Pay page no longer has, so this is one brand leaving the accelerated tier, not the tier closing. The date, honestly: the Insta Deals offer ("Flat 1% OFF", ₹10,000 monthly limit) was already live in the page's own data on 31 August 2026, the reward line still read 5X in the 1 September 16:26 UTC archive capture, and read 1X when this desk fetched the page on 2 September — so 1 September is the community's effective date sitting inside a window we can bracket from primary captures, not a figure HDFC published. The bank has announced nothing and no SmartBuy page carries a notice. Two pieces of context for the size of it: brand vouchers were already sub-capped at 3,000 accelerated points a month from 1 July 2026, and Amazon Pay vouchers disappeared from the portal entirely for stretches of July and August before returning in this shape. Flipkart and Amazon Fresh vouchers still pay the accelerated rate; the ₹10,000-a-month Amazon Pay lane now pays base earn plus the 1% instant discount.
