What it's worth to you, after the fee
Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Pays for itself at ₹17,000 a month
At ₹17,000 a month — ₹2,04,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹2,000 gross (earn ₹2,000) against its ₹1,999 fee = ₹0 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.
3 notes on the card itself: how it is issued · the network variants · why it ranks #372
Why #372 1% flat and uncapped is the best plain rate Union publishes, and nothing else about this card is premium: no lounge quota, no travel benefit, no partner. The ₹2,70,000 waiver bar is the highest of any Union card that is not metal.
₹0.25 a point, from the card's own benefits table — "Reward points per Rs. 100 spent / 4 points (1 Reward point = Rs. 0.25)". Redemption is the Union Rewardz app or unionrewardz.com for merchandise, gift vouchers, "travel experiences" or a credit against your own bill. Union Bank names no airline, no hotel and no transfer partner on any card it issues.
The take
The top of Union Bank's Visa ladder, and the only card the bank issues that pays a full 1% on ordinary spend — 4 reward points per ₹100 at a flat ₹0.25 apiece, with no category that pays more and no category cap. That rate is genuinely competitive for a public-sector bank. What is missing is everything a "Signature" badge usually implies. Union publishes four benefit rows for this card and they are: ₹30 lakh of accidental death cover with the premium borne by the cardholder, the 1% reward rate, a 1% fuel-surcharge waiver capped at ₹100 a billing cycle, and up to three add-on cards. There is no lounge row, no golf, no concierge, no milestone ladder and no welcome benefit — and the word "lounge" does not appear on the product page, in the 25-Sep-2025 MITC, or in the Key Fact Statement. The fee shape is Union's usual: nothing to take the card out, ₹1,999 a year from the second year, waived if you put ₹2,70,000 through it in the previous twelve months. That is the highest bar on the shelf outside UNICORN and the metal NEXTERIA, and it is the number to look at first — below ₹22,500 a month of spend you are paying ₹1,999 for a 1% card, which nets out at zero. Above it, a free 1% card with a ₹30 lakh insurance rider is a reasonable thing to keep in a drawer. The points go nowhere but vouchers and your own statement; Union has no airline or hotel partner anywhere.
Your renewal — keep, downgrade or cancel
Here is the fee, the spend that clears it, and everything that has moved under this card since you last decided.
Keep, downgrade or cancel
₹1,999/yr at stake · 5 spend bands
The charge ₹0 joining, then ₹1,999/yr
The waiver ₹2,70,000 of spend in the year before renewal — about ₹22,500 a month — and the renewal fee is not charged.
Break-even ₹17,000 a month — ₹2,04,000 a year — is where this card's value crosses its fee.
At your spend
₹3,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹3,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged
₹6,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹6,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged
₹12,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹12,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged
₹36,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹36,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged
₹60,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹60,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

The downgrade
Union Bank of India publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.
If you call to cancel
What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →
The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.
What's good
- 1% back — 4 reward points per ₹100 at ₹0.25 apiece, flat and uncapped
- NIL joining fee; ₹1,999 a year waived above ₹2,70,000 of previous-year spend
- ₹30 lakh of accidental death cover, the largest on Union's Visa ladder
- 3% forex, against the 3.5% Indian norm
- Up to 3 add-on cards for spouse, children and parents at ₹999 a year each
Watch out
- NO lounge access is published — not on the page, not in the MITC, not in the Key Fact Statement, for a card the bank calls Signature
- ₹2,70,000 of annual spend to waive ₹1,999 — the highest bar on Union's non-metal shelf
- The ₹30 lakh accidental cover is premium-borne-by-cardholder, not free like the RuPay NPCI cover
- Union Rewardz has NO airline or hotel partner — the points only pay your own bill or buy vouchers
- No welcome benefit and no milestone ladder are published for this card
- Fuel earns nothing; the 1% surcharge waiver is capped at ₹100 a billing cycle
What these points actually fly
No live transfer route takes Union Rewardz Points into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

Does your spend count toward the fee waiver?
not published — and we say which
₹2,70,000 a year is the bar that waives the ₹1,999 fee. A different question from the one above — earning points and counting toward a threshold are separate rules, and issuers write them separately.
Not published. Union Bank of India states what the Union Bank VISA Signature earns, but has not published which spend categories count toward the fee waiver — the ₹2,70,000 bar. We won't guess it from the earn table or from a sibling card: Axis published three cards' rules on one day and all three lists differed. If you hold this card and have it in writing from the issuer, send us the document and we'll source it.

The fine print
7 of 7 MITC rows published
What the MITC actually says — the rates, fees and cutoffs the brochure skips.
MITC v1.4 (effective 25 Sep 2025), fee grid verbatim: "VISA Signature · NIL · NIL · Rs. 1999/- · Rs. 999/-". Annual fee waived above ₹2,70,000 of previous-12-month usage — the highest bar on Union's non-metal shelf. Card replacement ₹299. Accidental death cover ₹30,00,000, premium borne by the cardholder — the largest on the Visa ladder. THE WORD "LOUNGE" DOES NOT APPEAR IN THIS DOCUMENT ONCE, and the product page has no lounge row either, on a card the bank calls Signature.
