Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Pays from the first rupee

At ₹1,000 a month — ₹12,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹100 gross (earn ₹100) against its ₹0 fee = ₹100 net — at or above ₹0 from the first rung we price. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

Citibank · Not published · entry

Why #882 The workhorse of Citi India's own-brand range and, for most of a decade, the free-for-life card a salaried Indian professional was first offered. Carried because "free for life" was a published fact here, not a promotion — and because the ladder it sat on explains the rest.

The take

This is the card the Citi ladder was built around: above the Silver, below the Platinum, and free for life in Citi's own printed words rather than as a limited-time waiver. What you got for nothing was a higher credit and cash limit than the Silver, a fuel-surcharge waiver at IndianOil pumps that took the two-and-a-half per cent charge to zero, and the small service privileges Citi bundled as Gold — a dedicated CitiPhone queue, a waived CitiAlert subscription, free phone-home from overseas, and the Visa or MasterCard global assistance desks for a lost card abroad. What you did not get is anything a travel reader would sit up for. There is no lounge, no co-brand, no forex concession and no published airline exit; the Platinum a rung up had the airmiles conversion and this card's page never mentions one. The arithmetic that mattered was the fee: nothing, forever, on a card that still opened doors at merchants Indian issuers were only starting to sign. It is long withdrawn, and the site that published all of the above no longer resolves.

The downgrade

Citibank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

If you call to cancel

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • Free for life in the issuer's own words — a published lifetime-free card, not a waiver you had to spend your way to
  • Fuel-surcharge waiver at IndianOil outlets, taking Citi's stated 2.5% surcharge to zero
  • Higher credit and cash limits than the Silver, plus a dedicated 24-hour CitiPhone queue
  • The ₹20-a-month CitiAlert subscription was waived for Gold cardmembers

Watch out

  • WITHDRAWN — this card left Citi India's range before the Axis Bank handover and is not one of the nine products on Axis's Forward Together site
  • No lounge access, no co-brand, no forex concession and no airline conversion — the airmiles exit belonged to the Platinum a rung above
  • 0.47% is the whole return — one flat rate, no bonus category, and no airline conversion on this card's page; that door was the Platinum's
  • The fuel-surcharge waiver required asking for a Citibank charge slip at the pump, which is easy to forget and impossible to fix afterwards
  • Citi's published card rate of interest ran to 3.19% a month — 38.28% annualised — rising to 3.5% a month on default

What these points actually fly

No live transfer route takes Citibank Reward Points into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

You cannot. The card was withdrawn from Citi India's range before the bank sold its Indian consumer business to Axis Bank, and citibank.co.in no longer resolves. It has no successor on Axis's Forward Together migration site.
