Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — and a business card's accelerator is usually the point. This card is not on the board, which ranks personal cards only; it is ranked against other business cards on /best/business, where the tax, GST and vendor-payment rungs ARE credited and its ₹ reads higher.

Breaks even only by erasing its fee at ₹5,000 a month

At ₹5,000 a month — ₹60,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹100 gross (earn ₹100) against a fee of ₹0 — the ₹500 is waived, the spend having cleared ₹50,000 a year = ₹100 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

Why #314 A gig-worker card in all but name, and the only HDFC business card that pays three CashPoints per ₹100 on GST and income-tax payments. At the twenty paise HDFC's own fee schedule now prices a point at, that is 0.6% on two bills a freelancer cannot route around — plus 800 bonus points in every month that clears ₹50,000 of spend.

GIGA CashPoints redeem well below the ₹1.00 house value, and HDFC's two documents disagree about how far below. The product page's ladder reads up to ₹0.25 as statement cashback, up to ₹0.25 on SmartBuy flights and hotels, up to ₹0.25 on the product catalogue and up to ₹0.30 on the Business Catalogue. The bank's August 2026 Key Fact Statement then says, of a change effective 1 November 2025, that statement cashback is worth "20 paise per point for … GIGA cards". This file uses ₹0.20 — the dated clause in the standing schedule. A statement redemption needs 2,500 CashPoints, no more than 50% of a booking can be paid in points, and the balance lapses two years after accrual.

The take

GIGA is HDFC's card for the gig economy, and it is aimed squarely at the freelancer or one-person business rather than a company with a finance department — self-employed, 25 to 65, ITR above ₹4 lakh, which is the lowest income bar on HDFC's business shelf. The earn is written as points per ₹200 rather than as a percentage, which is a mercy, because it makes the arithmetic honest: two CashPoints per ₹200 on general business spends, six per ₹200 on business digital spends, bill payments, income tax and GST. A CashPoint here is twenty paise against the statement — HDFC's fee schedule set that on 1 November 2025, and the product page has not caught up — so that is 0.2% ordinary and 0.6% on the accelerated leg — and the accelerated leg is the interesting one, because income tax and GST are the two bills an Indian freelancer cannot route around, and almost no card pays anything at all on them. On top sits a monthly milestone that most readers will actually hit: 800 bonus CashPoints for ₹50,000 of spend in a month, which is ₹160 a month, ₹1,920 a year, against a ₹500 fee that reverses at ₹50,000 of spend in an anniversary year. The rest is platform plumbing: SmartBuy BizDeals for hotels, MyBiz flights and Tally, Office 365, AWS, Azure and Google Workspace through Nuclei; up to ₹1,800 of assured SmartPay cashback in year one plus ₹800 of vouchers; up to 10% off dining through Swiggy Dineout; discounts with WeWork, LegalWiz, Harappa and Truelancer under a GIG merchant programme; a ₹3 lakh credit liability cover; and a business loan facility drawn against the card. There is no lounge access, no transfer partner and no airline or hotel programme — treat it as a tax-and-bills card with a software discount attached, and note the 15 May 2026 change notice HDFC flags on the page before you rely on any single benefit.

Your renewal — keep, downgrade or cancel

This card reaches break-even by ERASING its fee, not by out-earning it: the waiver is the decision.

The downgrade

HDFC Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

What has changed under this card

  • 1 Sep 2026 SmartBuy moves Amazon Pay gift cards to 1X under Insta Deals issuer-wide
  • 1 Jul 2026 HDFC caps SmartBuy brand-voucher rewards issuer-wide
  • 15 May 2026 HDFC lifts its DCC markup to 1.75% across the card range issuer-wide

We price what is in force today — a change that has not happened yet is not in these numbers. the full archive for this card →

If you call to cancel

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • 6 CashPoints per ₹200 — 0.6% — on business digital spends, bill payments, income tax and GST
  • 800 bonus CashPoints every month you spend ₹50,000, worth about ₹1,920 a year
  • ₹250 welcome voucher on one transaction within 37 days
  • ₹500 fee waived on ₹50,000 of spend in an anniversary year
  • Up to 55 days of interest-free credit, plus a business loan facility against the card
  • SmartBuy BizDeals — MyBiz flights and hotels, and Tally, Office 365, AWS, Azure and Google Workspace via Nuclei
  • ₹3 lakh credit liability cover and zero lost-card liability

Watch out

  • HDFC writes the earn in points, not rupees — at ₹0.20 a CashPoint the real rates are 0.2% and 0.6%
  • The product page still prints ₹0.25 a point for statement cashback while the August 2026 Key Fact Statement sets 20 paise, effective 1 November 2025 — we use 20 paise
  • A card-wide ceiling of 15,000 CashPoints a statement cycle applies
  • A statement redemption needs 2,500 CashPoints and the balance lapses two years after accrual
  • UPI spends on a RuPay variant carry their own 500-point monthly cap
  • HDFC has posted a change notice effective 15 May 2026 — read it before relying on any single benefit
  • No lounge access, no transfer partner, no airline or hotel programme
  • Self-employed only: 25 to 65 years old with an ITR above ₹4 lakh

What these points actually fly

No live transfer route takes HDFC Bank CashPoints into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

2 sourced rules

GIGA's whole grid is two lines on HDFC's own page: "6 CashPoints per ₹200 spent on Business digital spends, Bill Payments, Income Tax and GST payments" and "2 CashPoints per ₹200 spent on general business expenses". That is 3 CashPoints per ₹100 against 1 — a genuine 3× on tax, GST and bills — and at HDFC's ₹0.20 a point on this card it works out at 0.6% against 0.2%. HDFC publishes no merchant-category exclusion list for GIGA, so every other category is honest absence rather than a guess. Like Biz First and BizGrow, GIGA ships on Visa and Mastercard and HDFC points holders at the Visa Commercial Credit Card offers page.

Government / tax accelerated — 6 CashPoints per ₹200 — 3 per ₹100, 0.6% at ₹0.20 a point — on income tax and GST payments, three times the general business rate. At 3 CashPoints per ₹100 that card-wide figure works out to ₹5,00,000 of government spend a statement cycle, a ceiling SHARED with every other spend on the card and far above any single tax payment
Utilities (electricity/water/gas) accelerated — 6 CashPoints per ₹200 — 3 per ₹100 — on bill payments, against 2 per ₹200 on general business expenses. Again no ceiling is published on the rung, only the card-wide 15,000 CashPoints a statement cycle

Does your spend count toward the fee waiver?

not published — and we say which

₹50,000 a year is the bar that waives the ₹500 fee. A different question from the one above — earning points and counting toward a threshold are separate rules, and issuers write them separately.

Not published. HDFC Bank states what the HDFC Bank GIGA Business earns and does not earn, but has not published which spend categories count toward the fee waiver — the ₹50,000 bar. We won't guess it from the earn table or from a sibling card: Axis published three cards' rules on one day and all three lists differed. If you hold this card and have it in writing from the issuer, send us the document and we'll source it.

The fine print

7 of 7 MITC rows published

What the MITC actually says — the rates, fees and cutoffs the brochure skips.

Forex markup 3.5% + GST, the MITC’s standard FCC column — the exceptions it names are the premium cards above this one (Infinia 2%, 6E Rewards XL 2.50%). A separate dynamic-currency-conversion markup of 1.75% applies from 15-May-2026 on a foreign transaction billed in rupees
APR 3.75%/mo (45%/yr) on revolving credit and cash advances — the MITC’s “All other variants” tier; only Infinia, Infinia Metal, the two Diners Blacks, BizBlack Metal and the UPI RuPay Mega Saver get 1.99%
Late fee Nil ≤₹100; ₹100 (₹101–500); ₹500 (₹501–1,000); ₹600 (₹1,001–5,000); ₹750 (₹5,001–10,000); ₹900 (₹10,001–25,000); ₹1,100 (₹25,001–50,000); ₹1,300 (>₹50,000) — and from 20-Jun-2026 the same slab applies to a missed EMI instalment
Cash advance 2.5% of the amount withdrawn or ₹500, whichever is higher
Add-on card Lifetime free
Overlimit 2.5% of the overlimit amount, minimum ₹550 — and only on the cardholder’s explicit consent, which the MITC now makes a precondition of the facility rather than a courtesy
Redemption fee ₹99 per redemption request — the MITC exempts only Infinia, Infinia Metal Edition, Diners Black Metal Edition, Diners Black and BizBlack Metal. A cashback redemption is ₹50 a time

Membership fee ₹500 to take and ₹500 to renew, waived at ₹50,000 of spend in the year — it shares the lowest waiver bar in the ₹500 business group with BizFirst. Fuel surcharge is waived at 1% on transactions from ₹400 to ₹5,000, capped ₹250 a statement cycle. Education-related transactions earn NO reward points, a rule the MITC applies across the Biz range. Shelf-wide charges from the same document: cash processing ₹100 for any payment made over a branch counter or at an ATM, payment return 2% of the payment amount, 1% on online skill-based gaming above ₹10,000 in a calendar month and 1% on wallet loading above ₹10,000 (both from 1-Jul-2025, each capped ₹4,999 a month), and reward points on insurance capped at 2,000 a month.

    Devaluation moderate HDFC Bank
SmartBuy moves Amazon Pay gift cards to 1X under Insta Deals
Amazon Pay Gift Voucher sat in SmartBuy's accelerated tier — 'up to 5X Reward Points or 5% cashback' → 'Insta Deals: 1 % Instant Discount + 1X Reward Points' — this brand is out of the accelerated tier

The most-farmed HDFC voucher route stopped being a points play. SmartBuy's own voucher storefront now shows the Amazon Pay Gift Voucher under a new "Insta Deals" tile reading "1 % Instant Discount + 1X Reward Points", and the page's own description flipped from "up to 5X Reward Points or 5% cashback" to "up to 1X". The comparison that settles it sits on the same storefront: the Amazon Fresh voucher still carries an "Accelerated Rewards — Upto 5X Reward Points RPs / 5% Cashback" block that the Amazon Pay page no longer has, so this is one brand leaving the accelerated tier, not the tier closing. The date, honestly: the Insta Deals offer ("Flat 1% OFF", ₹10,000 monthly limit) was already live in the page's own data on 31 August 2026, the reward line still read 5X in the 1 September 16:26 UTC archive capture, and read 1X when this desk fetched the page on 2 September — so 1 September is the community's effective date sitting inside a window we can bracket from primary captures, not a figure HDFC published. The bank has announced nothing and no SmartBuy page carries a notice. Two pieces of context for the size of it: brand vouchers were already sub-capped at 3,000 accelerated points a month from 1 July 2026, and Amazon Pay vouchers disappeared from the portal entirely for stretches of July and August before returning in this shape. Flipkart and Amazon Fresh vouchers still pay the accelerated rate; the ₹10,000-a-month Amazon Pay lane now pays base earn plus the 1% instant discount.
