Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied: it earns nothing on fuel here, so that spend is dropped, not paid at the headline, and stops pacing milestones and the waiver. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Pays for itself at ₹40,000 a month

At ₹40,000 a month — ₹4,80,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹4,500 gross (earn ₹4,500) against its ₹4,500 fee = ₹0 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

2 notes on the card itself: how it is issued · why it ranks #110

HDFC Bank · Not published · premium

Why #110 Ranked on the door, not the earn. The value model prices 2 points per ₹100 on general spend and is right to — but what a reader buys here is 16 domestic and 8 international lounge visits a year, which is a bigger quota than anything else at this fee and bigger than several cards that outrank it. HDFC's own savings chart values the lounge line alone at ₹26,400 against a ₹4,500 fee. It sits below the cards that also let you fly on the points, because this one does not.

One point, two prices, and the gap decides whether this is a travel card. Redeemed as Shoppers Stop vouchers through NetBanking, 1 Reward Point is ₹1 — the full HDFC house value. Redeemed as Airmiles or against Unified SmartBuy flights and hotels it is ₹0.50; on the product catalogue ₹0.35; as cashback ₹0.20. And a ₹99 + taxes redemption fee comes off every request. So the headline 7% and 2% are department-store rates, and our 1.0% prices what a traveller actually banks. HDFC's own savings chart agrees, quietly: it credits ₹2,400 a year against ₹2,40,000 of non-Shoppers-Stop spend, which is 1%, not the 2% printed two sections above it.

The take

Twenty-four complimentary lounge visits a year — 16 domestic at four a quarter, 8 international at two a quarter — is a super-premium quota on a ₹4,500 card, and the international half is the part almost nothing else at this price offers. That is the whole reason a travel desk carries a Shoppers Stop card. HDFC's own savings chart values the lounge line at ₹26,400 and the total package at ₹60,300 a year, and even discounting hard, the door alone clears the fee several times over if you fly monthly. Everything else about it is a shopping card, and the fee shape is unusually blunt: ₹4,500 to join, ₹4,500 to renew, and no spend waiver at any level — HDFC's MITC prints "NA" in the waiver column, which almost nothing else on its shelf does. The 7% is Shoppers Stop only. The 2% on everything else is 2 points per ₹100 that are worth ₹1 inside Shoppers Stop and fifty paise as Airmiles, which is the real rate and the one we print. And the "1% mark-up" on the fees page is DCC only — the foreign markup is the standard 3.5%, on a card sold partly on international lounge access. Hold it if you fly a lot and shop at Shoppers Stop anyway. Hold it for the earn and you have bought a ₹4,500 department-store loyalty programme.

The downgrade

HDFC Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • 16 domestic lounge visits a year (4 a quarter) plus 8 international (2 a quarter)
  • 7% back as Reward Points at Shoppers Stop, 2% everywhere else
  • Complimentary Shoppers Stop Black membership worth ₹4,500, plus a ₹1,500 welcome voucher
  • ₹2,000 of Reward Points a month for a single ₹50,000+ weekend purchase at Shoppers Stop
  • ₹3 crore accidental air death cover and ₹50 lakh emergency overseas hospitalisation

Watch out

  • No fee waiver at any spend — HDFC's MITC prints NA in this card's waiver column, so it costs ₹4,500 every year
  • The ₹1 point is Shoppers Stop vouchers only; as Airmiles or SmartBuy travel it halves to ₹0.50, and cashback pays ₹0.20
  • ₹99 + taxes comes off every redemption request
  • 3.5% forex — the 1% mark-up quoted on the fees page is international DCC transactions only
  • Grocery accrual capped at 1,000 Reward Points a month; rent and government payments earn nothing
  • Needs ₹70,000 net monthly income salaried, which is premium-card territory for a shopping card
  • The ₹2,000 weekend bonus needs ₹50,000 in one Shoppers Stop purchase on a weekend — we exclude it from the value model rather than credit a general spender for it

What these points actually fly

HDFC Reward Points move to Avianca LifeMiles , Air France-KLM Flying Blue , Etihad Guest , United MileagePlus , Air India Maharaja Points , AirAsia Rewards , SpiceJet SpiceClub , Accor Live Limitless (ALL) , Marriott Bonvoy , Club ITC , IHG One Rewards , Radisson Rewards and Wyndham Rewards — and those price every award dynamically. There is no published chart to quote, so we quote nothing: an estimate is not a seat.

The fine print

6 of 7 MITC rows published

What the MITC actually says — the rates, fees and cutoffs the brochure skips.

Forex markup 3.5% — read off the MITC v4.5 forex column, which merges this row into the 3.50% block; the card's own pages state only a 1% markup on international DCC transactions, which is not the same charge
APR 3.75%/mo (45%/yr) — MITC v4.5's "All other variants" tier
Late fee not published
Cash advance 2.5%, min ₹500
Add-on card Lifetime Free (MITC v4.5, clause p)
Overlimit 2.5% of the overlimit amount, min ₹550 (MITC v4.5)
Redemption fee ₹99 + applicable taxes per redemption request

Joining ₹4,500 + applicable taxes and renewal ₹4,500 + applicable taxes, with NO spend waiver at any level — HDFC's MITC fee table prints "NA" in this row's waiver column and the fees page publishes no waiver clause, which is rare on HDFC's shelf. Lounge access is the reason to hold it: 16 domestic visits a year at 4 a calendar quarter, plus 8 international at 2 a quarter, with no spend gate published. Earn is stated only as percentages — 7% Reward Points at Shoppers Stop, 2% on every non-Shoppers Stop purchase — and 1 Reward Point is ₹1 ONLY when redeemed against Shoppers Stop vouchers through NetBanking; the other avenues are Airmiles up to ₹0.50, Unified SmartBuy flights and hotels ₹0.50, the product catalogue ₹0.35 and cashback ₹0.20. A ₹99 + taxes fee comes off every redemption request and points are valid 2 years. Grocery accrual is capped at 1,000 Reward Points a month per customer; rental and government payments earn nothing and a 1% fee lands from the second rental transaction in a calendar month. Welcome is a ₹1,500 Shoppers Stop voucher on any Shoppers Stop transaction plus a complimentary Shoppers Stop Black membership HDFC values at ₹4,500; the recurring benefit is Reward Points worth ₹2,000 a month for a single ₹50,000+ weekend purchase at Shoppers Stop. Insurance is ₹3 crore accidental air death cover, ₹50 lakh emergency overseas hospitalisation and ₹9 lakh credit liability. Fuel-surcharge waiver 1%, capped ₹500 a statement cycle; card reissue ₹100.

Axis EDGE brings Accor back, drops ITC, and adds Cathay, Miles & More and Hilton
Accor and Marriott off the grid since 2 April 2026; Club ITC live; no Cathay, Miles & More or Hilton → Accor live at the punished rates; ITC removed; Cathay, Hilton and Miles & More live; Marriott still gone

Axis's own Travel EDGE terms, re-read 25 September 2026, already show the grid that went live on 23 September. Accor ALL is back, and not at the old Atlas 1:2: EDGE Miles convert at 2:1 (Olympus 1:2) and EDGE Rewards at 5:1, with Magnus for Burgundy at 5:2 and only Burgundy Private still at 5:4. Club ITC is off the table. Three partners are new. Cathay Asia Miles sits on that same punished grid. Hilton Honors is the ordinary one: EDGE Miles 1:2, EDGE Rewards 5:2, Burgundy 5:4. Lufthansa Miles & More is the exception on Atlas, which converts 1:1 there while every other standard airline on that card is 1:2; the EDGE Rewards side of Miles & More is the ordinary 5:2. Marriott stays removed. Qatar Privilege Club was already back. Flying Blue, Air India and Qantas moved into Group A, which is the capped group. The Axis Rewards credit card's Amex network is advertised as joining-fee and annual-fee nil for a limited period; there is no separate Amex variant on this board, so that offer is not modelled as a fee change.
