Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied: it earns nothing on utilities and fuel here, so that spend is dropped, not paid at the headline, and stops pacing milestones and the waiver. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Pays from the first rupee

At ₹1,000 a month — ₹12,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹100 gross (earn ₹100) against its ₹0 fee = ₹100 net — at or above ₹0 from the first rung we price. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

The take

Duet is about as simple as an Indian credit card gets, and its simplicity is the whole argument: no annual fee ever, 1% cashback on retail and online spending, credited straight to the card account within two weeks and visible on the statement. No points, no portal, no ₹99 redemption fee, nothing to claim. The ceiling is ₹500 of cashback a calendar month, which is ₹50,000 of spend, so the card pays a maximum of ₹6,000 a year — which is exactly the "up to INR 6,000 in yearly benefits" RBL leads with. Above ₹50,000 a month it earns nothing, so it is a second card, not a primary one. The card also carries Xpress Cash, a drawable loan inside the credit limit repaid as EMIs. One thing to check before assuming it is free: RBL runs two fee eras on this product, and holders onboarded before 1 September 2021 — when it was sold as "RBL Bank Paisa on Demand" — still pay ₹500 plus GST a year.

The downgrade

RBL Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

What has changed under this card

  • 7 Jan 2026 RBL bolts a 1% fee onto FASTag loads and tolls — the fifth 1% line on its charge sheet issuer-wide
  • 1 Jul 2025 RBL gates domestic lounges behind ₹35k a quarter issuer-wide
  • 15 Oct 2024 RBL strips points from education, government and wallet spends issuer-wide

We price what is in force today — a change that has not happened yet is not in these numbers. the full archive for this card →

If you call to cancel

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • Lifetime free — NIL in both of RBL's fee columns
  • 1% cashback on retail and online spends, credited to the card account
  • No reward portal and no ₹99 redemption fee — the cashback lands on your statement
  • Xpress Cash: draw a loan inside the credit limit and repay as EMIs, paying interest only on what you use

Watch out

  • Cashback stops at ₹500 a calendar month — about ₹50,000 of spend
  • Cards onboarded before 1 September 2021, as "RBL Bank Paisa on Demand", still pay ₹500 + GST a year
  • Utilities, insurance, quasi-cash, railways, rent, education, wallets, government, contracted services, cash and Bills2Pay earn no cashback
  • There is no welcome benefit and no milestone of any kind
  • RBL charges 1% on FIVE transaction types its Schedule of Charges lists separately from the reward exclusions: rent (MCC 6513, on every transaction), fuel and auto above ₹10,000 a transaction (capped at ₹3,000), utility spends above ₹50,000 a month, education paid through third-party apps such as CRED, PhonePe or Paytm (school and college websites are exempt), and — with effect from 7 January 2026 — FASTag loading and tolls above ₹10,000 a transaction. These are FEES, listed nowhere near the reward exclusions: a category can both cost you 1% and earn you nothing

What these points actually fly

No live transfer route takes Statement cashback (₹) into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

What earns, what doesn't

15 sourced rules · 8 pay zero

A lifetime-free cashback card for anyone onboarded after 1-Sep-2021: 1% back on retail and online spend, capped at ₹500 a calendar month, so ₹50,000 of eligible spend a month exhausts it. RBL publishes the ineligible categories as a fourteen-row MCC table on the product page — the most complete version of this table anywhere on its shelf.

Fuel excluded — No cashback — "Fuel & Auto" (MCC 0032, 2541, 4001, 5542, 5541, 5172) heads the page's ineligible-MCC table. RBL charges 1% on fuel/auto transactions above ₹10,000, capped at ₹3,000 (MITC)
Rent & property management excluded — No cashback — "Real Estate/Rental" (MCC 6513); RBL levies 1% on every rental transaction bank-wide (MITC)
Government / tax excluded — No cashback — "Government Services" (MCC 9400, 1490, 2490, 2995, 7800, 9406, 9222, 9405, 9399, 9211, 9402, 9401, 9311, 9223)
Utilities (electricity/water/gas) excluded — No cashback — "Utilities" (MCC 4900), with "Bills2Pay" listed as a separate row (RBL's own bill rail in the MyBank app and internet banking). 1% fee past ₹50,000 of utility spend a month (MITC)
Insurance excluded — No cashback — "Insurance" (MCC 6300, 6310) and "Miscellaneous" (MCC 5960)
Education excluded — No cashback — "Education" (MCC 8220, 8244, 8249, 8211, 8241, 8299); 1% fee on education routed through a third-party app, none paying the institution directly (MITC)
Wallet loads excluded — No cashback — "Wallets/Service Providers" (MCC 6540)
Groceries & supermarkets full — Absent from the ineligible-MCC table — the full 1%, inside the ₹500-a-month ceiling
Dining & food delivery full — Absent from the ineligible-MCC table — the full 1%, inside the ₹500-a-month ceiling
Travel (airlines, hotels, transit) full — Airlines, hotels and OTAs pay the full 1%; "Railways" (MCC 0066, 4011, 4112) is on the ineligible table and pays nothing
Telecom full — Telecom (MCC 4814) is absent from the ineligible-MCC table — the full 1% (inferred from absence, flag). RBL files it apart from Utilities/4900, so the utility exclusion does not reach a mobile bill
Jewellery / gold full — Jewellery (MCC 5944, 5094) is absent from the ineligible-MCC table — the full 1% (inferred from absence, flag)
Forex / international spends full — International spend earns the full 1% with RBL's 3.5% currency-conversion assessment on top (MITC) — a net loss of about 2.5%
UPI (RuPay-on-UPI only) not applicable — Mastercard and Visa only — RBL links UPI to its RuPay cards, and this product ships no RuPay variant
EMI conversions / merchant EMI excluded — An EMI conversion earns nothing — RBL's MITC strips base rewards from every EMI conversion it issues, Split-N-Pay included, and merchant EMI costs 1.5% or ₹150, whichever is higher
  • Fuel · excluded No cashback — "Fuel & Auto" (MCC 0032, 2541, 4001, 5542, 5541, 5172) heads the page's ineligible-MCC table. RBL charges 1% on fuel/auto transactions above ₹10,000, capped at ₹3,000 (MITC)
  • Rent & property management · excluded No cashback — "Real Estate/Rental" (MCC 6513); RBL levies 1% on every rental transaction bank-wide (MITC)
  • Wallet loads · excluded No cashback — "Wallets/Service Providers" (MCC 6540)
  • Utilities (electricity/water/gas) · excluded No cashback — "Utilities" (MCC 4900), with "Bills2Pay" listed as a separate row (RBL's own bill rail in the MyBank app and internet banking). 1% fee past ₹50,000 of utility spend a month (MITC)

RBL relaunches the Shoppers Stop co-brand as a Gold / Platinum / Black trio
An older single Shoppers Stop co-brand line → Three tiers — Gold (₹1,000), Platinum (₹5,000), Black (₹10,000) annual — earning 10 RP/₹200 (Gold, Platinum) or 15 RP/₹200 (Black) across the Shoppers Stop Universe, with points worth ₹0.25 / ₹0.50 / ₹1.00 respectively

RBL rebuilt its Shoppers Stop co-brand into a three-card ladder. The fee rung buys a richer point, not just more of them: a Reward Point is worth ₹0.25 on Gold, ₹0.50 on Platinum and ₹1.00 on Black, so Black's 15 RP per ₹200 at ₹1 a point is a genuine 7.5% back on First Citizen days inside the Shoppers Stop Universe. Welcome vouchers scale the same way (₹500 quarterly on Gold, ₹2,000 plus Platinum membership and a makeover on Platinum, ₹1,500 quarterly on Black). No lounge access on any of the three — these are store cards and earn like it, with value only inside Shoppers Stop. All three are already on our board.
