What it's worth to you, after the fee

Welcome: None published — neither the KFS nor the rewards document carries a welcome benefit.

Not valued. We can't value this card until the issuer publishes how it earns — every net-value number here would be a fee subtracted from rewards nobody has described. Everything we can source — the fee, the charges, the migration that put this card in your hand — is above and stands on its own; this card is simply not on the board, not in the calculator, and cannot win a best-of call until SBM Bank (India) publishes terms we can cite.

Why we decline to value some cards, and what it takes to change that →

3 notes on the card itself: how it is issued · the network variants · why it ranks #416

SBM Bank (India) · RuPay · entry

RuPay — The reward document is titled for the "SBM novio Credit Card – Rupay Variant" and prices UPI spend at twice the POS rate, so RuPay is the variant the earn grid is written for. It is UPI-linkable. Visa — The KFS's fee table is headed "(This is applicable for both VISA and Rupay)" — the only place SBM names a Visa variant, and no separate Visa reward document exists.

Why #416 A 2.49% foreign markup on a card that never charges a rupee to hold is a real, if narrow, reason to keep one — but its coins have no published price, so there is no return here to rank. Carried on the fee and the markup, not on the earn.

The take

SBM's novio card is a fixed-deposit-backed card that costs nothing to take out and nothing to keep — the KFS prints Nil against the joining line, the annual line and the waiver line alike — and charges 2.49% on foreign currency, a full point under the Indian norm. For a card you can get with no income proof and no credit history, that combination is worth the drawer space. The rewards are where it goes quiet. SBM publishes a precise accrual table: five novio Coins per ₹100 on ordinary spend, ten per ₹100 on fuel paid by UPI up to 400 coins a month, one per ₹100 on fuel at the pump, nothing on ATM cash. What it will not publish is what a coin is worth. The programme's own words are that the points "have no monetary value, except in respect of the value assigned by the Bank", redeemable only for vouchers in the novio app "at discounted rates, which may vary for each brand". A count with no price is not a rate, so this desk prints none and leaves the card unranked on value. The rest is ordinary: 42% a year on revolving credit, ₹499 if you miss a payment, ₹599 to close inside a year, and no lounge access at all. Take it as a free forex-lite card and a credit-file starter, and treat the coins as a bonus you cannot budget for.

Your renewal — keep, downgrade or cancel

Keep, downgrade or cancel

what we can and cannot price

Not valued. We can't value this card until the issuer publishes how it earns — every net-value number here would be a fee subtracted from rewards nobody has described. A break-even is the spend at which value crosses a fee, and we are short one side of that sentence — so this desk prints no ladder, no crossing and no ₹0 standing in for either. What we can source about this card is under Sources.

The downgrade

SBM Bank (India) publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and we cannot price either side of it.

If you call to cancel

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • Lifetime free — the KFS prints Nil against the joining fee, the annual fee and the waiver alike
  • 2.49% foreign-currency markup, a full point below the 3.5% Indian norm
  • Secured on an SBM fixed deposit with the credit line at 90% of it — no income proof, no credit history
  • Issued on RuPay and on Visa; the RuPay variant is UPI-linkable and its reward table pays UPI at five times the fuel-POS rate
  • No rewards redemption fee, no over-limit fee and no repayment charge

Watch out

  • SBM PUBLISHES NO PRICE FOR A novio COIN — the programme's own words are that the points "have no monetary value, except in respect of the value assigned by the Bank". We will not print a return we cannot compute
  • The coins redeem only for vouchers inside the novio app, "at discounted rates, which may vary for each brand" — no cash, no credit, no transfers
  • Fuel earns are capped hard: 400 coins a month by UPI and 40 by POS, and only between ₹400 and ₹4,000 a transaction
  • Nothing accrues on a transaction below ₹100, because coins are counted per whole ₹100
  • No lounge access appears in the KFS or in SBM's shared secured-card MITC
  • 42% a year (3.5% a month) on purchases and 35.88% on cash; ₹499 late payment charge
  • ₹599 to cancel within 12 months of activation, ₹249 to replace the card, and 1% to preclose the fixed deposit
  • A 1% processing fee applies to rent and education payments from 15 July 2026, and it is not refunded if the payment is reversed

What these points actually fly

SBM Bank (India) has not published what this card earns, so there are no points here to fly with — not zero points, and not points that go nowhere: nothing stated either way. The moment a benefit sheet exists we will price whatever it names.

Route Direct application
Income · salaried None — the card is secured on a fixed deposit and SBM publishes no income criterion
Income · self-employed None — no income proof is required
Age band not published

Direct application — no invite list, no banking relationship required.

No income proof and no credit history. Apply in the novio app, book an SBM Bank fixed deposit for a tenure of 390 days, and the card is issued against it with a limit of 90% of the deposit; the deposit keeps earning SBM's own rate while pledged, and precloses at a 1% charge if you want out. Coins, statements and redemption all live in the novio app, and the balance shows up there the day after you spend. Cancel through the app's Manage Cards screen or by writing to creditcard@sbmbank.co.in — inside twelve months of activation that costs ₹599.

The fine print

What the MITC actually says — the rates, fees and cutoffs the brochure skips.

Forex markup 2.49% of the transaction value, plus GST
APR 3.5%/mo (42%/yr) on purchases from 6 January 2026; 2.99%/mo (35.88%/yr) on cash
Late fee ₹499
Cash advance 2.5% of the amount withdrawn or ₹299, whichever is higher; cash is capped at 50% of the available credit limit
Add-on card not published
Overlimit Nil — the KFS prints "Over limit Fee — Nil"
Redemption fee Nil — the KFS prints "Rewards Redemption Fee — Nil"

THIS CARD WAS CALLED CREDILIO. SBM's page heading and every document title now read "SBM novio", while the three PDFs it links are still named SBM-Credilio-Key-Fact-Statement.pdf, CREDILIO-MITC.pdf and RP-SBM-Credilio-Rupay.pdf. DO NOT MERGE IT WITH DCB'S novio CARDS — novio runs the same brand on two banks' licences, and DCB's pair is FD-backed from ₹2,000 on RuPay with a different fee grid. FEE COLUMNS: one table, headed "(This is applicable for both VISA and Rupay)", reading "Joining Fees — Nil / Annual Fees — Nil / Annual Fees Waiver — NA". Lifetime free on both networks. Secured on an SBM fixed deposit booked for 390 days; credit limit 90% of the deposit; preclosing the deposit costs 1%. THE ACCRUAL IS PUBLISHED AND THE PRICE IS NOT: the RuPay variant's reward T&C gives 5 novio Coins per ₹100 on ordinary UPI, POS and online spend with no monthly ceiling and a ₹100 minimum transaction, 10 per ₹100 on fuel paid by UPI capped at 400 coins a month, 1 per ₹100 on fuel at POS capped at 40 a month, both fuel rungs only between ₹400 and ₹4,000 a transaction on MCC 5541 and 5542, and zero on ATM cash. Coins never expire. But the same document says the points "have no monetary value, except in respect of the value assigned by the Bank, are not convertible and can only be redeemed for items from the Rewards Catalogue", where "Vouchers are available at discounted rates, which may vary for each brand" — no ₹-per-coin anywhere, which is why the card carries the absent (unpublished) earn rate and why no novio Coins currency is minted. NO LOUNGE ACCESS. Card replacement ₹249; cancellation ₹599 within 12 months of activation. SBM-WIDE, from 15 July 2026: a non-refundable 1% processing fee on rental and education payments.
