Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Pays from the first rupee

At ₹1,000 a month — ₹12,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹100 gross (earn ₹100) against its ₹0 fee = ₹100 net — at or above ₹0 from the first rung we price. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

Why #635 The bottom rung of a free shelf whose top rung is also free. Nothing here is wrong — it is simply that Canara's Select tier costs the same nothing and adds twenty lounge visits, so the only reason to sit on this one is that the branch would not give you the other.

The take

This is the floor of Canara's shelf, and its honest description is a card that costs nothing and does nothing. Joining, annual and enrolment fees are all NIL — Canara prints them as one merged "NIL" across every consumer tier — and you earn two reward points per ₹100 at a point the MITC fixes at ₹0.25, which is 0.5% and never moves: no accelerator, no category grid, no milestone ladder, no welcome bonus. Fuel and cash withdrawals earn nothing at all. The forex markup is 3%, which is genuinely better than the 3.5% most Indian banks charge and is the one number on this card worth knowing. What you do NOT get is the thing anyone reads this site for: Canara's own variants table prints "Not Available" against BOTH lounge rows for this column, domestic and international. Zero visits. Here is the part that should decide it for you. Canara's Platinum tier is also free and opens eight domestic lounge doors a year; its Select / World / Signature tier is also free and opens up to twenty domestic and four international. Same bank, same ₹0, same 0.5% earn. If your branch will issue you either of those, this card has no argument left. Take it only when they will not, and treat the ₹12,000 turnover bar seriously — miss it and Canara bills you ₹100 for the privilege of holding a free card.

The downgrade

Canara Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

If you call to cancel

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • No joining fee, no annual fee, no enrolment fee — one merged NIL across the whole consumer shelf, primary and add-on
  • 3% forex markup, against the 3.5% most Indian issuers charge
  • The lowest turnover bar on the shelf: ₹12,000 a year keeps the inactivity fee away
  • ₹4,00,000 air-accident cover for yourself and ₹2,00,000 for a spouse, plus ₹25,000 each of baggage insurance and purchase protection
  • ₹2,00,000 of fraudulent-charge cover, and up to 50 interest-free days

Watch out

  • NO lounge access of any kind — Canara's own variants table reads "Not Available" for both the domestic and the international row on this tier
  • Canara's Platinum and Select/World/Signature tiers cost the same ₹0 and DO carry lounge access — ask for one of those first
  • 0.5% flat, with fuel and cash withdrawals earning nothing at all
  • Spend under ₹12,000 in a card year and a ₹100 inactivity fee lands, so "free" has a floor
  • No transfer partners — points leave only as cashback or the canararewardz catalogue, and the catalogue adds a processing fee
  • Credit limit is capped at ₹5,00,000, a tenth of what the Platinum and Select tiers allow
  • Revolving costs 2.5% a month (30% a year) and cash withdrawals accrue interest from day one

What these points actually fly

No live transfer route takes Canara Reward Points into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

Not confirmed on sale — the issuer still documents this card but we could not confirm it is open to new applications. Treat any application path with care.

Branch application, or Canara's pre-approved funnel at jns.canarabank.bank.in. Ask what you actually qualify for before you accept this tier: the fee is identical at every rung of Canara's consumer shelf, so accepting Classic/Standard over Platinum or Select costs you nothing in rupees and every lounge visit in benefits. Canara does not publish an income criterion for any of these variants. The tier carries no secured flavour in Canara's table — the FD-backed variants start at Gold ("Mastercard Secured Gold", "VISA Secured Gold") — so if your file will not carry an unsecured limit, the secured route begins one rung up, not here.

Canara Bank publishes no income or age cutoffs for this card. Blank means blank — we don't invent numbers to fill a grid.

The fine print

6 of 7 MITC rows published

What the MITC actually says — the rates, fees and cutoffs the brochure skips.

Forex markup Up to 3% of the transaction amount
APR 2.5%/mo (30%/yr) unsecured; 2.0%/mo (24%/yr) secured
Late fee ₹250 + GST, on top of the 2.5%/mo carried-balance charge
Cash advance ₹30 per thousand or part thereof, min ₹150 per withdrawal
Add-on card Nil — joining, annual and enrolment fees are all NIL on add-on cards too
Overlimit not published
Redemption fee Cashback free from 1,000 points in multiples of 100; an additional processing fee applies to recharge and merchandise redemptions

Joining, annual and enrolment fees are one merged NIL across Canara's whole consumer shelf, so the card file carries annualFee 0 alone and no joiningFee. NO FEE COLUMN TRAP HERE: Canara publishes ONE cell, "Annual/ Joining Fee/ Enrolment Fee (One time) — NIL", not two columns. This row covers the tier Canara publishes as "1. Rupay Classic / 2. Mastercard Standard / 3. VISA Classic" in its "Credit Card Variants & Features" comparison — one column, one set of terms, three badges. Both lounge rows read "Not Available" for this tier, domestic and international, so no lounge access is tagged. Earn is 2 points per ₹100 on POS/e-commerce at ₹0.25 a point (0.5%), fuel and cash withdrawals excluded, capped at 10,000 points a billing cycle. Maximum credit limit ₹5,00,000 a month. Expected minimum annual turnover ₹12,000; miss it and a ₹100 inactivity fee applies to main and add-on cards. Interest-free period up to 50 days. EMI conversion 2% of transaction value, min ₹100 max ₹200, at 13% p.a. below a year and 14% at a year and above. Insurance: ₹2,00,000 lost-card cover, ₹50,000 each of baggage and purchase protection, ₹4,00,000 air accident self / ₹2,00,000 spouse. Points valid 3 years and lapse on card closure; no transfer partners exist — cashback or the canararewardz catalogue only. All charges exclude GST, 18% charged extra.
