What it's worth to you, after the fee
Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Breaks even only by erasing its fee at ₹5,000 a month
At ₹5,000 a month — ₹60,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹300 gross (earn ₹300) against a fee of ₹0 — the ₹450 is waived, the spend having cleared ₹50,000 a year = ₹300 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.
3 notes on the card itself: how it is issued · the network variants · why it ranks #373
Why #373 The middle rung of Union's Visa ladder: 0.5% flat, ₹450 a year, free above ₹50,000 of spend. It buys twice the reward rate of the Gold and twice its insurance cover for ₹100 more, and nothing else.
₹0.25 a point, from the card's own benefits table — "Reward points per Rs. 100 spent / 2 points (1 Reward point = Rs. 0.25)". Redemption is the Union Rewardz app or unionrewardz.com for merchandise, gift vouchers, "travel experiences" or a credit against your own bill. Union Bank names no airline, no hotel and no transfer partner on any card it issues.
The take
Union Bank's Visa Platinum is the second of three rungs and it is priced like one. Nothing to join, ₹450 a year, and the annual charge disappears entirely if you put ₹50,000 through the card in the previous twelve months — a low enough bar that most holders will never pay it. In exchange you get 2 reward points per ₹100 at Union's flat ₹0.25, a straight 0.5%, ₹10 lakh of accidental death cover with the premium on you, a 1% fuel-surcharge waiver capped at ₹100 a billing cycle, and up to three add-on cards. That is the entire published benefit set — four rows in a table. Against its siblings the arithmetic is simple. The Gold costs ₹100 less and pays half as much (0.25%), so the Platinum overtakes it the moment you spend more than about ₹40,000 a year, which is the same spend that waives the fee. The Signature costs ₹1,999 and pays 1%, so it only wins above roughly ₹3 lakh a year — and Union's own waiver bar for it, ₹2,70,000, says the same thing. So Platinum is the sensible middle. What it is not is a travel card: no lounge quota appears on the page, in the 25-Sep-2025 MITC or in the Key Fact Statement, and Union Rewardz points have no airline or hotel partner of any kind. Forex is 3%, below the 3.5% Indian norm but not by enough to make this the card you take abroad.
Your renewal — keep, downgrade or cancel
This card reaches break-even by ERASING its fee, not by out-earning it: the waiver is the decision.
Keep, downgrade or cancel
₹450/yr at stake · 5 spend bands
The charge ₹0 joining, then ₹450/yr
The waiver ₹50,000 of spend in the year before renewal — about ₹4,167 a month — and the renewal fee is not charged.
Break-even ₹5,000 a month — ₹60,000 a year — is where this card's value crosses its fee, and it gets there by erasing the fee at the waiver rather than out-earning it.
At your spend
₹1,500 a year, net of the fee, at ₹3,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged
₹3,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹6,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged
₹6,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹12,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged
₹18,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹36,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged
₹30,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹60,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

The downgrade
Union Bank of India publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.
If you call to cancel
What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →
The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.
What's good
- 0.5% back — 2 reward points per ₹100 at ₹0.25 apiece
- NIL joining fee; ₹450 a year waived above ₹50,000 of previous-year spend
- ₹10 lakh of accidental death cover
- 3% forex, against the 3.5% Indian norm
- Up to 3 add-on cards for spouse, children and parents at ₹350 a year each
Watch out
- NO lounge access is published — not on the page, not in the MITC, not in the Key Fact Statement
- 0.5% flat, with no category that pays more and no milestone ladder published
- No welcome benefit is published
- Union Rewardz has NO airline or hotel partner — the points only pay your own bill or buy vouchers
- The ₹10 lakh accidental cover is premium-borne-by-cardholder, not free like the RuPay NPCI cover
- Fuel earns nothing; the 1% surcharge waiver is capped at ₹100 a billing cycle
What these points actually fly
No live transfer route takes Union Rewardz Points into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

Does your spend count toward the fee waiver?
not published — and we say which
₹50,000 a year is the bar that waives the ₹450 fee. A different question from the one above — earning points and counting toward a threshold are separate rules, and issuers write them separately.
Not published. Union Bank of India states what the Union Bank VISA Platinum earns, but has not published which spend categories count toward the fee waiver — the ₹50,000 bar. We won't guess it from the earn table or from a sibling card: Axis published three cards' rules on one day and all three lists differed. If you hold this card and have it in writing from the issuer, send us the document and we'll source it.

The fine print
7 of 7 MITC rows published
What the MITC actually says — the rates, fees and cutoffs the brochure skips.
MITC v1.4 (effective 25 Sep 2025), fee grid verbatim: "VISA Platinum · NIL · NIL · Rs. 450/- · Rs. 350/-". Annual fee waived above ₹50,000 of previous-12-month usage. Card replacement ₹249. Accidental death cover ₹10,00,000, premium borne by the cardholder. CASH LIMIT 30% of the card limit — corrected 2026-08-23, having been recorded as "not established". Union's cash-withdrawal table in §V does state it, in a row that names four variants at once: "RuPay Platinum/ VISA Platinum/ Union JCB Health/ Divaa Icon Credit Card(Female Only- RuPay Platinum) — 30% of Card Limit", between "VISA Gold — 20%" above it and the 40% group below. The word "lounge" does not appear in this document once.
