Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied: it earns nothing on fuel here, so that spend is dropped, not paid at the headline, and stops pacing milestones and the waiver. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — and a business card's accelerator is usually the point. This card is not on the board, which ranks personal cards only; it is ranked against other business cards on /best/business, where the tax, GST and vendor-payment rungs ARE credited and its ₹ reads higher.

Breaks even only by erasing its fee at ₹5,000 a month

At ₹5,000 a month — ₹60,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹600 gross (earn ₹600) against a fee of ₹0 — the ₹500 is waived, the spend having cleared ₹50,000 a year = ₹600 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

Visa

Why #221 A merchant's card sold inside the Paytm app: 3% on the Paytm bill stack, 2% on the rest of Paytm, 1% everywhere else, each on its own monthly ceiling. It ranks here because the earn is genuinely decent for ₹500 and the travel case is nil — no lounge, no partner, and CashPoints that reach no programme.

₹500 + GST
Annual fee1
₹50,000 spend
Fee waiver

The unit is a CashPoint, not a rupee. HDFC's FAQ for this card says it plainly: "Cashback is accrued as Cashpoints in your card account, which can be redeemed post statement generation. Cashpoints can be redeemed as Cashback along with other redemption categories" — and elsewhere names those categories as "Smartbuy (Flights/Hotels), Airmiles & Product Catalogue". Against the statement a CashPoint is ₹1; every other avenue is worse, and overall CashBack redemption is capped at 3,000 points a month.

The take

This is the small-merchant card in HDFC's Paytm range, and for what it costs it earns properly. Three percent on the Paytm bill stack — recharge, utility, movies and the Mini App — two percent on everything else you do inside Paytm, and one percent on the rest of your spending. The three legs are capped separately rather than jointly, which is more generous than it sounds: ₹500 a month on the 3%, ₹500 on the 2%, ₹1,000 on the 1%, so the card can pay ₹2,000 a calendar month at full stretch, or ₹24,000 a year against a ₹500 fee. Reaching that needs about ₹16,700 of bill payments, ₹25,000 of other Paytm spend and ₹1,00,000 of everything else every month, so most holders will see a fraction of it — but the ceilings are high enough that they are not the story the way they are on the Paytm Mobile card. The fee reverses on ₹50,000 of non-EMI spend in twelve months, and the first year's on ₹30,000 in ninety days. There are two small extras HDFC does not shout about: a ₹250 gift voucher for activating with at least two transactions in the first thirty days, and a ₹500 gift voucher at ₹1 lakh of annual non-EMI, non-rent spend. Where it earns nothing is the usual Indian wall — EMI, rent, fuel, education and wallet loads — and rent and education were struck off on 1 January 2023 rather than never having counted. What it does not have is any travel benefit whatsoever: no lounge, no transfer partner, and CashPoints that reach no airline or hotel programme even though HDFC will let you burn them at a worse rate on SmartBuy flights. Hold it if you run a Paytm merchant account. Do not hold it to fly.

Your renewal — keep, downgrade or cancel

This card reaches break-even by ERASING its fee, not by out-earning it: the waiver is the decision.

The downgrade

HDFC Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

  • 1 Sep 2026 SmartBuy moves Amazon Pay gift cards to 1X under Insta Deals issuer-wide
  • 1 Jul 2026 HDFC caps SmartBuy brand-voucher rewards issuer-wide

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • 3% on Paytm recharge, utility, movies and Mini App spends — capped at ₹500 a calendar month
  • 2% on all other Paytm spends, on a separate ₹500-a-month ceiling
  • 1% on everything else, capped at ₹1,000 a calendar month
  • ₹500 fee reversed on ₹50,000 of non-EMI spend in twelve months; first year on ₹30,000 in ninety days
  • ₹250 activation voucher and a ₹500 voucher at ₹1 lakh of annual spend, plus a complimentary Paytm First membership

Watch out

  • Each leg has its own monthly ceiling — ₹500, ₹500, ₹1,000 — so the whole card tops out at ₹2,000 a calendar month
  • The 1% stops at ₹1,00,000 of monthly spend, where its ₹1,000 ceiling bites
  • EMI spends, rent, fuel, education and wallet loads earn nothing; rent and education were removed on 1 January 2023
  • The earn is CashPoints, not money — ₹1 against the statement only, and overall CashBack redemption is capped at 3,000 points a month
  • No lounge access of any kind, and no transfer partner — this is the sibling card that does NOT carry the twelve lounge visits
  • 1% mark-up on international dynamic-currency-conversion transactions
  • The ₹500 milestone voucher excludes EMI and rental spends from the ₹1 lakh count
  • The card is exclusive to Paytm customers and applied for in the Paytm app, not at the bank

What these points actually fly

No live transfer route takes HDFC Bank CashPoints into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

Does your spend count toward the fee waiver?

not published — and we say which

₹50,000 a year is the bar that waives the ₹500 fee. A different question from the one above — earning points and counting toward a threshold are separate rules, and issuers write them separately.

Not published. HDFC Bank states what the Paytm HDFC Bank Business earns and does not earn, but has not published which spend categories count toward the fee waiver and the milestones — the ₹50,000 bar. We won't guess it from the earn table or from a sibling card: Axis published three cards' rules on one day and all three lists differed. If you hold this card and have it in writing from the issuer, send us the document and we'll source it.

Not through HDFC's own funnel. The bank's FAQ says it outright: "Paytm HDFC Bank Business Credit Card is a credit card exclusive for Paytm customers. Paytm customers can get this card by applying for the card on Paytm app." KYC can be completed over a live video call rather than in person. HDFC publishes no income floor for this card. On the fee: ₹500 is charged as a joining fee and ₹500 as a renewal fee — the same number twice, not two charges that stack — and HDFC adds that on this family the annual charge is "levied only after 90 days of issuance if the cardholder has not activated the credit card", so an activated card that clears ₹30,000 of non-EMI spend in its first ninety days pays nothing in year one at all.

The clearest fee page in HDFC's Paytm family: "Joining Fee: ₹500 plus Applicable Taxes" and "Renewal Fee: ₹500 plus Applicable Taxes", waived in year one on ₹30,000 of non-EMI spend in the first 90 days and thereafter on ₹50,000 in 12 months. Equal figures, so no separate joiningFee (§61). The FAQ adds that the annual charge is levied "only after 90 days of issuance if the cardholder has not activated the credit card". EARN: 3% on Paytm Recharge, Utility, Movies and Mini App (capped ₹500 a calendar month), 2% on all other Paytm spends (capped ₹500), 1% on all other spends (capped ₹1,000) — three SEPARATE ceilings summing to ₹2,000 a month. The percentages are RUPEE percentages, settled by HDFC's own worked example: "3% cashback on Rs. 20000 (i.e. Rs. 600, but feature capped at - Rs.500) + 2% cashback on Rs.30000 (i.e. Rs. 600, but feature capped at Rs. 500) + 1% cashback on Rs. 5000 (i.e. Rs. 50) = Rs. 1050". Earn accrues as CashPoints redeemable against outstanding balance "or … against other categories such as Smartbuy (Flights/Hotels), Airmiles & Product Catalogue", with overall redemption capped at 3,000 points a month. Nothing earns on wallet loads, fuel, EMI, rent or education; rent and education were struck off on 1 Jan 2023. ₹250 gift voucher on activation with 2 transactions in 30 days; ₹500 gift voucher at ₹1 lakh of annual non-EMI, non-rental spend; complimentary Paytm First membership on one ₹100 transaction within a year. 1% mark-up on international DCC transactions. Fuel surcharge 1% on ₹400–₹5,000, max ₹250 a statement cycle. VISA — "any merchant establishment that accepts VISA payments". NO LOUNGE, which is the tell that separates it from its Select Business sibling. Exclusive to Paytm customers and applied for in the Paytm app; video KYC available.

    Devaluation moderate HDFC Bank
SmartBuy moves Amazon Pay gift cards to 1X under Insta Deals
Amazon Pay Gift Voucher sat in SmartBuy's accelerated tier — 'up to 5X Reward Points or 5% cashback' → 'Insta Deals: 1 % Instant Discount + 1X Reward Points' — this brand is out of the accelerated tier

The most-farmed HDFC voucher route stopped being a points play. SmartBuy's own voucher storefront now shows the Amazon Pay Gift Voucher under a new "Insta Deals" tile reading "1 % Instant Discount + 1X Reward Points", and the page's own description flipped from "up to 5X Reward Points or 5% cashback" to "up to 1X". The comparison that settles it sits on the same storefront: the Amazon Fresh voucher still carries an "Accelerated Rewards — Upto 5X Reward Points RPs / 5% Cashback" block that the Amazon Pay page no longer has, so this is one brand leaving the accelerated tier, not the tier closing. The date, honestly: the Insta Deals offer ("Flat 1% OFF", ₹10,000 monthly limit) was already live in the page's own data on 31 August 2026, the reward line still read 5X in the 1 September 16:26 UTC archive capture, and read 1X when this desk fetched the page on 2 September — so 1 September is the community's effective date sitting inside a window we can bracket from primary captures, not a figure HDFC published. The bank has announced nothing and no SmartBuy page carries a notice. Two pieces of context for the size of it: brand vouchers were already sub-capped at 3,000 accelerated points a month from 1 July 2026, and Amazon Pay vouchers disappeared from the portal entirely for stretches of July and August before returning in this shape. Flipkart and Amazon Fresh vouchers still pay the accelerated rate; the ₹10,000-a-month Amazon Pay lane now pays base earn plus the 1% instant discount.
