Welcome: 5,000 Reward Points worth ₹500 — released only on realisation of the ₹499 joining fee, so the fee-free programme-linked variant gets nothing

Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied: it earns nothing on fuel here, so that spend is dropped, not paid at the headline, and stops pacing milestones and the waiver. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Breaks even only by erasing its fee at ₹5,000 a month

At ₹5,000 a month — ₹60,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹200 gross (earn ₹200) against a fee of ₹0 — the ₹499 is waived, the spend having cleared ₹50,000 a year = ₹200 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

This is the cheap end of the Kotak point, and it is genuinely cheap: the product page prices a League Platinum reward point at ₹0.10, and the Revised Cardholder Agreement's rewards table agrees with "10 paise per point". Cash-out is worse still at ₹0.07 with a 2,000-point minimum. So every rate on this card is a quarter of what the same points-per-₹150 grid pays on a Zen Signature, and `earn.base` bakes that haircut in — 0.27% base, 0.53% on the accelerated set.

The take

The League Platinum earns its place on this board on a technicality, and it deserves to know that. It doubles reward points on airlines, travel agencies and tour operators — 8 per ₹150 against 4 — which is a real travel accelerator by the letter of the rule. Then you read what a League Platinum point is worth. Ten paise. Not the 25 paise a Zen Signature gets, and certainly not the rupee an Infinite gets; ten. So the accelerated rate is 0.53% and the base is 0.27%, which is roughly what you would earn leaving the money in a current account. The acceleration also has a self-destruct: past ₹2,00,000 of annual spend every category earns 8 per ₹150, so the travel multiplier stops being a travel multiplier exactly when you are spending enough for it to matter. There is no lounge access on this card at all — do not believe any page that says otherwise. What is genuinely decent is the half-yearly milestone: 4 free PVR tickets or 10,000 points on ₹1,25,000 of spend, twice a year, which is worth more than everything the earn rate will ever pay you. Buy it for cinema tickets and a ₹50,000 fee waiver, or do not buy it.

Your renewal — keep, downgrade or cancel

This card reaches break-even by ERASING its fee, not by out-earning it: the waiver is the decision.

₹50,000 annual spend erases that fee

₹499/yr at stake · 5 spend bands

The charge ₹499/yr

The waiver ₹50,000 of spend in the year before renewal — about ₹4,167 a month — and the renewal fee is not charged.

Break-even ₹5,000 a month — ₹60,000 a year — is where this card's value crosses its fee, and it gets there by erasing the fee at the waiver rather than out-earning it.

The downgrade

Kotak Mahindra Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

What has changed under this card

  • 8 Sep 2026 Flying Blue splits award tickets into Light / Standard / Flex — a 25% rise for the same product a program these points reach
  • 1 Jun 2025 Kotak's June-2025 fee wave washes over the premium deck issuer-wide
  • 12 Feb 2025 RBI lifts Kotak's ten-month card-issuance ban issuer-wide

We price what is in force today — a change that has not happened yet is not in these numbers. the full archive for this card →

If you call to cancel

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • 8 reward points per ₹150 on airlines, travel agencies and tour operators — double the base rate
  • 4 free PVR tickets or 10,000 reward points on ₹1,25,000 of spend every 6 months
  • ₹499 fee waives at just ₹50,000 of annual retail spend, the lowest bar on the Kotak shelf
  • 5,000 reward points worth ₹500 on joining, which covers the fee outright

Watch out

  • NO lounge access of any kind — this is the only card in Kotak's mid-tier without it
  • A reward point is worth ₹0.10 here, a tenth of a Kotak Infinite point and 40% of a Zen point; cash-out is ₹0.07
  • 0.27% base earn and 0.53% accelerated — the travel multiplier doubles a number that barely exists
  • Above ₹2,00,000 of annual spend EVERY category earns 8 per ₹150, so the travel acceleration disappears at exactly the spend where it would pay
  • The milestone is half-yearly at ₹1,25,000 — a lumpy year that spends ₹2.5 lakh unevenly clears one half and misses the other
  • 3.50% forex markup and no international accelerator at all
  • Fuel and railway spends earn no reward points; rent, wallet loads and skill-gaming earn nothing either
  • The joining gift needs the ₹499 fee actually charged — the programme-linked free variant gets no points at all

What these points actually fly

No live transfer route takes Kotak Reward Points into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

What earns, what doesn't

9 sourced rules · 6 pay zero

8 Reward Points per ₹150 on Kotak's "special categories" — travel agencies and tour operators, package tour operators, airlines and air carriers, electric sales, durable goods and departmental stores — and on everything once anniversary spend passes ₹2 lakh; 4 per ₹150 below that. This card gets the HARSHEST of Kotak's three revision profiles: where Zen and Royale merely cap insurance, government and education, League cuts them off entirely.

Fuel excluded — Zero points w.e.f. 1 Jun 2025, and the product page says it twice — "Fuel transactions will not earn reward points". MCC 5172, 5541, 5542 and 5983. Kotak also charges 1% past ₹25,000 of cumulative fuel spend a statement cycle, the tightest fuel-fee threshold in its range. All you keep is the 1% surcharge waiver on ₹500–₹4,000 transactions, max ₹3,500 an anniversary year
Rent & property management excluded — Zero points w.e.f. 1 Jun 2025 — MCC 6513, plus 1% + GST on every rent transaction
Government / tax excluded — Zero points w.e.f. 1 Jun 2025 — MCC 9222, 9223, 9311, 9399, 9402 and 9405
Utilities (electricity/water/gas) capped — The one category League caps rather than cuts — points earn on the first ₹35,000 of utility spend a statement cycle, MCC 4900, 4814, 4899 and 4812, against ₹50,000 on Zen and Royale. The 1% utility fee starts at the same ₹35,000
Insurance excluded — Zero points w.e.f. 1 Jun 2025 — MCC 5960, 6300, 6381 and 6399. Zen and Royale cap insurance at ₹70,000 a cycle; League kills it outright
Education excluded — Zero points w.e.f. 1 Jun 2025 — MCC 8211, 8220, 8241, 8244, 8249 and 8299, plus 1% on education paid through a third-party app
Wallet loads excluded — Zero points w.e.f. 1 Jun 2025 — MCC 6540, plus 1% on cumulative wallet loading past ₹10,000 a statement cycle
Groceries & supermarkets full — Departmental stores sit in the 8-points-per-₹150 special-category tier; plain grocery and supermarket MCCs earn the 4-point base, rising to 8 once anniversary spend passes ₹2 lakh
Dining & food delivery not applicable
Telecom not applicable

Does your spend count toward the fee waiver?

7 of 15 categories answered

₹50,000 a year is the bar that waives the ₹499 fee. A different question from the one above — earning points and counting toward a threshold are separate rules, and issuers write them separately.

₹80,000 a month of rent & property management is ₹9,60,000 a year that counts ₹0 toward the milestones.

The revision table's own gate clause, verbatim: "Spends on above categories will not be considered when calculating milestone benefits." The milestone here is 4 PVR tickets or 10,000 Reward Points at ₹1,25,000 of spend every six months, so the excluded categories cost the reader the ticket as well as the points. No `waiver` gate is claimed for the ₹50,000 annual-fee waiver, which Kotak words as "retail spends" without publishing a list.

RCAS fee table verbatim: "League | ₹ 499 | ₹499 / NIL | NA | Minimum retail spend of ₹50,000 in a year | Waived" — joining and renewal are the same ₹499 on the fee-paying variant, so there is no separate commencement charge, and the product page confirms both as "₹ 499/Nil". The "/ Nil" is the programme-linked variant, and it costs its holder the welcome: Kotak's own line is "Applicable for league joining fee variant only", so the free card gets no points. Eligibility is city-gated as well as income-gated — Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi (including Gurgaon and Noida), Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune. Special-category transaction fees land at Kotak's TIGHTEST thresholds on this card: 1% on utility spends past ₹35,000 a statement cycle and 1% on fuel past ₹25,000, against ₹50,000/₹35,000 on Zen and Royale and ₹75,000/₹50,000 on White. Wallet loading and online skill-based gaming 1% past ₹10,000 each, rent 1% + GST a transaction, third-party-app education payments 1%. Fuel surcharge waiver 1% on ₹500–₹4,000 transactions, max ₹3,500 an anniversary year; railway surcharge waiver max ₹500 a year, and neither fuel nor railway spend earns a Reward Point.

Dream Different's unredeemed reward points expire after 30 September 2026
Reward points accrued on the Dream Different Credit Card up to 31 March 2026 sitting in the account with no stated expiry date → A hard forfeiture date — "After 30th September, 2026, any unredeemed Reward Points will automatically expire"

The second half of the note that closed the programme is the part holders can still act on. Kotak's cardholder agreement gives every Dream Different point accrued up to 31 March 2026 a six-month redemption window that shuts on 30 September 2026, after which unredeemed points are forfeited outright. At the agreement's own conversion rate of 25 paise per point, a year of the card's headline 4-points-per-₹100 online earn on ₹1 lakh of online spend is roughly 4,000 points, about ₹1,000 — small money, but money that becomes zero on 1 October. Points redeem against the Kotak catalogue (flights, hotels, vouchers, merchandise) or as a statement credit through the rewards portal or the contact centre, each with its own minimum, so a last-week redemption risks missing the date on processing alone.
