No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Pays for itself at ₹4,000 a month

At ₹4,000 a month — ₹48,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹200 gross (earn ₹200) against its ₹199 fee = ₹0 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

Why #238 The 2.5% fuel cashback caps at ₹100 a month — ₹4,000 of petrol — so the headline 3.5% is worth ₹1,200 a year at most, and the rest of the card runs at 0.5%.

₹199 + GST
Annual fee1
₹50,000 spend
Fee waiver

ICICI Reward Points on an entry card redeem at ₹0.25 apiece, a quarter of the ₹1.00 house value. ICICI publishes no per-point figure for this card, but the identically-programmed Rubyx membership kit states it outright — "Each reward point is equivalent to ₹0.25 when redeemed for cash" — and the catalogue runs to vouchers across travel and luggage, electronics, fashion, home appliances and health and beauty. Our reward rate already prices the ₹0.25 in.

The take

A cheap fuel card that is honest about its ceiling if you read past the banner. ICICI advertises "up to 3.5% savings" at HPCL pumps and then explains it itself: 2.5% cashback when the card is swiped at any HPCL pump, plus a 1% fuel surcharge waiver that only applies on an ICICI Bank POS machine. The 2.5% is capped at ₹100 a month. That is ₹4,000 of petrol — one tank for most drivers, less for a commuter — and past it the fuel rate is nothing at all. Twelve hundred rupees a year is the whole fuel case, against a ₹199 fee that reverses at ₹50,000 of annual spend, so the maths still works; it is just much smaller than the headline suggests. Away from the pump this is ICICI's standard entry engine: two Reward Points per ₹100 on retail and one on utility and insurance, worth ₹0.25 apiece, so 0.5% and 0.25% into a voucher catalogue with no airline and no hotel behind it. The movie benefit is the second reason to hold it — 25% off up to ₹100 on BookMyShow, twice a month — but since 1 April 2026 it is gated on ₹25,000 of spend in the preceding quarter, so it is not automatic. There is no lounge access and 3.5% forex. One caveat for the next reader: ICICI's MITC prices HPCL Platinum, HPCL Titanium and HPCL Coral on a single ₹199 line and separately names a ₹500 variant of the same family, so confirm the number on the card you are actually offered.

The downgrade

ICICI Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

What's good

  • 2.5% cashback on fuel swiped at any HPCL pump, plus a 1% surcharge waiver on ICICI Bank POS machines — ICICI's "up to 3.5%"
  • 25% off up to ₹100 on BookMyShow, twice a month
  • 2 Reward Points per ₹100 on retail spends and 1 per ₹100 on utility and insurance
  • ₹199 joining and annual fee, reversed on ₹50,000 of annual spend
  • 1% fuel surcharge waiver on transactions between ₹400 and ₹4,000 at HPCL pumps

Watch out

  • The 2.5% fuel cashback caps at ₹100 a month — roughly ₹4,000 of petrol, and nothing beyond it
  • The 1% surcharge waiver only applies when the card is swiped on an ICICI Bank POS machine at the pump
  • The movie benefit has been gated since 1 April 2026 on ₹25,000 of spend in the preceding calendar quarter
  • 0.5% on retail and 0.25% on utility and insurance — Reward Points here are worth ₹0.25, not ₹1.00
  • No lounge access and no transfer partner — the points buy vouchers and nothing else
  • 3.5% foreign-currency markup
  • ICICI's MITC prices HPCL Platinum, HPCL Titanium and HPCL Coral on one shared ₹199 line and names a ₹500 variant of the same family elsewhere — confirm the figure on the card you are offered
  • ICICI Reward Points expire three years after issuance

What these points actually fly

ICICI Reward Points move to Air India Maharaja Points and iShop (ICICI travel portal) — and those price every award dynamically. There is no published chart to quote, so we quote nothing: an estimate is not a seat.

What earns, what doesn't

10 sourced rules · 2 pay zero

READ THE FUEL ROW: the answer depends on which network you hold. ICICI's blanket "No reward points … under the Fuel category" carries a four-card exception, and one of them is written as "ICICI Bank HPCL Coral Credit Card – American Express network variant only". This card ships on Visa, Mastercard AND Amex, so the same product name pays reward points on fuel on one network and nothing on the other two. The 2.5% fuel CASHBACK is a separate benefit and runs on all three. Everything else follows ICICI's bank-wide grid, and HPCL Coral sits in the Coral band: ₹40,000 utility, ₹40,000 insurance, ₹20,000 grocery per statement cycle, with a ₹10,000 transportation cap added 1-Feb-2026.

Fuel accelerated — 2.5% cashback on HPCL fuel swiped at the pump, capped at ₹100 a month — about ₹4,000 of fuel — plus a 1% surcharge waiver on ₹400–₹4,000 transactions, which is where ICICI's headline "up to 3.5% savings" comes from and which only applies on an ICICI Bank POS machine. REWARD POINTS on fuel are a separate question with a network-specific answer: the MITC's fuel exclusion is lifted for "ICICI Bank HPCL Coral Credit Card – American Express network variant only", so the Visa and Mastercard variants earn zero points on the same pump
Rent & property management excluded — Zero reward points — "No reward point will be extended for the transaction routed from 6513 MCC for all credit cards"; ICICI files rent as MCC 7014, 7407, 5271 and 6513, and charges a 1% rent-pay fee on top
Government / tax reduced — Earns 1 RP per ₹100 vs 2 RP per ₹100 on retail, and points earn only on the first ₹40,000 of government spend a statement cycle — a ceiling SHARED with utilities and telecom, since government payments (MCC 6760, 9222, 9211, 9399, 9402, 9405, 9313, 9311) were folded into ICICI's utility bucket on 5-Feb-2024 and draw down the same monthly pot as the power bill
Utilities (electricity/water/gas) reduced — 1 RP per ₹100 vs 2 RP per ₹100 on retail, on the first ₹40,000 of utility spend a statement cycle (w.e.f. 15-Nov-2024). ICICI's utility MCC block runs 4899, 4900, 4901, 3887, 4897, 5416, 5417, 4812, 4813, 4814, 4815, 4821, 4896, 4902, 3886
Insurance reduced — 1 RP per ₹100 vs 2 RP per ₹100 on retail, on the first ₹40,000 of insurance spend a cycle (MCC 5960, 6300, 6381, 6399)
Education not applicable
Wallet loads excluded — Zero reward points — the MITC's E-Wallet Reload exclusion, which it waives only for Amazon Pay ICICI
Groceries & supermarkets capped — Grocery and departmental-store spend earns on the first ₹20,000 a statement cycle (MCC 3333, 5411, 5412, 5441, 9751, 5311, 5331, 5499) and nothing after
Dining & food delivery not applicable
Travel (airlines, hotels, transit) capped — From 1-Feb-2026 ICICI caps reward points on transportation transactions at ₹10,000 a statement cycle for the HPCL and Coral families — this card is named in both halves of that row
Telecom reduced — MCC 4814 is inside ICICI's utility block, so a phone bill earns 1 RP per ₹100 vs 2 RP per ₹100 on retail out of the same ₹40,000 monthly utility pot
Jewellery / gold not applicable
Forex / international spends full — 2 Reward Points per ₹100 on international spend against ICICI's 3.5% + GST cross-currency markup; the MITC names no HPCL Coral exception on forex
UPI (RuPay-on-UPI only) not applicable
EMI conversions / merchant EMI not applicable
  • Rent & property management · excluded Zero reward points — "No reward point will be extended for the transaction routed from 6513 MCC for all credit cards"; ICICI files rent as MCC 7014, 7407, 5271 and 6513, and charges a 1% rent-pay fee on top
  • Wallet loads · excluded Zero reward points — the MITC's E-Wallet Reload exclusion, which it waives only for Amazon Pay ICICI
  • Fuel · accelerated 2.5% cashback on HPCL fuel swiped at the pump, capped at ₹100 a month — about ₹4,000 of fuel — plus a 1% surcharge waiver on ₹400–₹4,000 transactions, which is where ICICI's headline "up to 3.5% savings" comes from and which only applies on an ICICI Bank POS machine. REWARD POINTS on fuel are a separate question with a network-specific answer: the MITC's fuel exclusion is lifted for "ICICI Bank HPCL Coral Credit Card – American Express network variant only", so the Visa and Mastercard variants earn zero points on the same pump

Does your spend count toward the fee waiver?

not published — and we say which

₹50,000 a year is the bar that waives the ₹199 fee. A different question from the one above — earning points and counting toward a threshold are separate rules, and issuers write them separately.

Not published. ICICI Bank states what the ICICI Bank HPCL Coral Credit Card earns and does not earn, but has not published which spend categories count toward the fee waiver — the ₹50,000 bar. We won't guess it from the earn table or from a sibling card: Axis published three cards' rules on one day and all three lists differed. If you hold this card and have it in writing from the issuer, send us the document and we'll source it.

₹199 charged under both the joining and the annual name, reversed on ₹50,000 of annual spend. ICICI's advertised "up to 3.5%" at HPCL is its own decomposition — 2.5% cashback when the card is swiped at any HPCL pump, CAPPED AT ₹100 A MONTH (about ₹4,000 of fuel), plus a 1% fuel surcharge waiver that applies only on an ICICI Bank POS machine. 2 Reward Points per ₹100 on retail and 1 on utility and insurance at ₹0.25 a point. Accor and Marriott off the grid since 2 April 2026; Club ITC live; no Cathay, Miles & More or Hilton → Accor live at the punished rates; ITC removed; Cathay, Hilton and Miles & More live; Marriott still gone

Axis's own Travel EDGE terms, re-read 25 September 2026, already show the grid that went live on 23 September. Accor ALL is back, and not at the old Atlas 1:2: EDGE Miles convert at 2:1 (Olympus 1:2) and EDGE Rewards at 5:1, with Magnus for Burgundy at 5:2 and only Burgundy Private still at 5:4. Club ITC is off the table. Three partners are new. Cathay Asia Miles sits on that same punished grid. Hilton Honors is the ordinary one: EDGE Miles 1:2, EDGE Rewards 5:2, Burgundy 5:4. Lufthansa Miles & More is the exception on Atlas, which converts 1:1 there while every other standard airline on that card is 1:2; the EDGE Rewards side of Miles & More is the ordinary 5:2. Marriott stays removed. Qatar Privilege Club was already back. Flying Blue, Air India and Qantas moved into Group A, which is the capped group. The Axis Rewards credit card's Amex network is advertised as joining-fee and annual-fee nil for a limited period; there is no separate Amex variant on this board, so that offer is not modelled as a fee change.
