What it's worth to you, after the fee

Welcome: Not published — BoM states no welcome or first-transaction bonus on the secured card, unlike the 100 bonus points on its unsecured sibling

Not valued. We can't value this card until the issuer publishes how it earns — every net-value number here would be a fee subtracted from rewards nobody has described. Everything we can source — the fee, the charges, the migration that put this card in your hand — is above and stands on its own; this card is simply not on the board, not in the calculator, and cannot win a best-of call until Bank of Maharashtra publishes terms we can cite.

Why #787 The most interesting card Bank of Maharashtra ever issued and the one it is closing: a lifetime-free card backed by a ₹12,500 fixed deposit, with no credit history and no income proof required, carrying a domestic airport lounge claim BoM never attached a network or a lounge list to. It is carried, not ranked, on two counts — the business is being wound down, and BoM has never published what one of its reward points is worth, so there is no earn to value.

The take

This one deserved better than its ending. Bank of Maharashtra's secured card is FD-backed platinum plastic with a genuinely low bar: a free-hold fixed deposit of ₹12,500, minimum age 18, no credit history required, no income proof required, and an explicit relaxation on the upper age limit. It is lifetime free. And BoM attached to it something almost no secured card in India carries — its own page says "Domestic airport lounge benefits on select 30+ lounges - twice per quarter", which is eight domestic visits a year, on a card whose credit limit is your own deposit still earning FD interest. Add a fuel-surcharge waiver of up to ₹200 a month, free add-on cards, EMI conversion above ₹2,500 and one reward point per ₹100 into BoM's voucher and merchandise catalogue. For a reader with a thin bureau file who wanted an airport door, this was the cheapest one in the country. Then read the parent page: Bank of Maharashtra has decided to exit the credit-card business, this card goes with the rest, deactivation lands on a date sent by SMS, and the replacement is a Bank of Maharashtra–SBI co-branded card underwritten by SBI Cards on its own policy. Two caveats stand even for existing holders. BoM names no lounge network and publishes no list of the "30+ lounges", so the benefit cannot be verified against any map — which is why this desk states the claim and tags no lounge access on the card. And BoM never priced a reward point, so what the card earned in rupees was never knowable.

Keep, downgrade or cancel

what we can and cannot price

Not valued. We can't value this card until the issuer publishes how it earns — every net-value number here would be a fee subtracted from rewards nobody has described. A break-even is the spend at which value crosses a fee, and we are short one side of that sentence — so this desk prints no ladder, no crossing and no ₹0 standing in for either. What we can source about this card is under Sources.

The downgrade

Bank of Maharashtra publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and we cannot price either side of it.

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • Lifetime free, and BoM's MITC waives the issuance fee as well as the annual and renewal charges
  • BoM's page claims domestic airport lounge access twice a quarter on a secured card — but names no network, no operator and no list, so this desk carries the claim and opens no door with it
  • No credit history and no income proof required; the minimum free-hold fixed deposit is ₹12,500 and the minimum age is 18, with an explicit relaxation on the upper age limit
  • The deposit keeps earning BoM's fixed-deposit interest while the card is live
  • 1% fuel-surcharge waiver of up to ₹200 a month, free add-on cards, and EMI conversion on any transaction above ₹2,500
  • One reward point per ₹100, convertible into e-vouchers and merchandise

Watch out

  • BANK OF MAHARASHTRA HAS EXITED THE CREDIT CARD BUSINESS and this card is being closed alongside the unsecured one — deactivation happens on a date BoM sends by SMS
  • BoM names no lounge network and publishes no list of the 30-plus lounges, so the eight-visits-a-year claim cannot be checked against any map — this desk records the claim and tags no lounge access on the card
  • BoM never published what a reward point is worth, so the card's earn cannot be valued, ranked or compared
  • All running EMIs are being foreclosed — without penalty, but the balances become immediately payable and the outstanding must be cleared before the card is deactivated
  • The replacement Bank of Maharashtra–SBI co-branded card is not automatic: SBI Cards contacts you for consent and can reject the application on its own underwriting
  • 3.5% forex markup, plus a separately named 3.50% + GST FOREX conversion markup fee, and no international lounge access
  • Gold and jewellery purchases cannot be converted to EMI

What these points actually fly

Bank of Maharashtra has not published what this card earns, so there are no points here to fly with — not zero points, and not points that go nowhere: nothing stated either way. The moment a benefit sheet exists we will price whatever it names.

WITHDRAWN ALONGSIDE THE MAIN CARD as Bank of Maharashtra exits the credit-card business — same closure FAQ, same SMS deactivation date, same EMI foreclosure without penalty, same SBI-underwritten replacement that can be rejected. BoM's own words: "Secured Credit Card is an FD backed platinum credit card... No credit history required. No income proof required. Lifetime free credit card. Instant Approval. Attractive personalized card. Relaxation in upper age." Minimum free-hold fixed deposit ₹12,500; documents are the FD plus PAN and Aadhaar; the deposit keeps earning BoM's FD interest while the card is live. Fuel-surcharge waiver up to ₹200 a month. EMI conversion on transactions above ₹2,500, excluding gold and jewellery. Earn is 1 reward point per ₹100 "converted into e-vouchers/mercantile", and BoM HAS NEVER PUBLISHED A POINT VALUE, so the card file is carried without a valued earn rate. THE LOUNGE CLAIM, AND WHY IT IS NOT MODELLED: the page states "Domestic airport lounge benefits on select 30+ lounges - twice per quarter" — eight domestic visits a year, on a secured card, which would be remarkable — but names NO lounge network, NO operator and NO list of the 30+ lounges, and the MITC carries no lounge clause at all. A network-less claim cannot be joined to any airport on this site's map without inventing the join, so the claim is recorded and no cardAccess row is written. No welcome bonus is stated on this card, unlike the unsecured sibling's 100 points.

Bank of Maharashtra exits the credit-card business and hands its holders to SBI Card
Bank of Maharashtra issued its own credit cards to its own customers. → BoM has exited card issuance entirely. Its own cards are being closed and holders offered a jointly-issued Bank of Maharashtra–SBI co-branded card instead; running EMIs are foreclosed without penalty and the full outstanding becomes payable.

An issuer-level exit, not a product change, in the bank's own words: "Bank of Maharashtra has taken a strategic decision to exit from credit card business. For convenience of existing credit card customers Bank has partnered with SBI cards for issuance of credit card under co-brand arrangement." The transition is harsher than it sounds for anyone mid-EMI — "All EMIs running on your card will be foreclosed without any penalty. The total outstanding, including EMI balances, will become payable" — though BoM waives every foreclosure charge, and the replacement card needs the customer's consent rather than arriving automatically. We carry no BoM card, so nothing on the board changes; the event is logged because an Indian bank leaving card issuance outright is rare. ON THE DATE, PLAINLY: BoM publishes no cut-off. The notice says "Your existing credit card will be deactivated from the date informed to you via SMS", so deactivation is per-customer and there is no site-wide effective day to log. The date here is the FAQ page's own "Last Updated: 13-05-2026" stamp — an upper bound on when the notice appeared, not an issuer announcement, which is why this row carries no `announced`. Do not quote it as the day BoM announced the exit. Separately, BoM and SBI Card announced the co-brand LAUNCH on 18 Aug 2025 in a dated SEBI filing; that filing says nothing about an exit, and conflating the two would date this event a year early.
