What it's worth to you, after the fee
Welcome: Not published — Kotak states no joining gift for this card
Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied: it earns nothing on fuel here, so that spend is dropped, not paid at the headline, and stops pacing milestones and the waiver. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Pays for itself at ₹18,000 a month
At ₹18,000 a month — ₹2,16,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹1,000 gross (earn ₹1,000) against its ₹1,000 fee = ₹0 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.
2 notes on the card itself: how it is issued · why it ranks #127
Why #127 Held some 170 places above its computed score, on one argument: the value model runs a domestic spend profile, and this card is sold to a reader whose spend is mostly NOT domestic. Its accelerator is the everyday rate for an NRI — 1.00% on everything bought outside India, at a full rupee a point — where the model reads it as a niche category worth a fraction of the basket. Eight domestic lounge visits a year and no joining fee on a ₹1,000 card do the rest. Read the rank as "best Kotak card for somebody who lives abroad", never as a general recommendation.
The NRI Royale is one of only two Kotak cards whose point is worth a full rupee: the product page says "1 Reward Point = Re 1/-" and the Revised Cardholder Agreement's rewards table backs it with "₹1 per point" in the NRI Royale column. That is four times what a Zen or Royale Signature point is worth and ten times a League Platinum point. `earn.base` bakes the markup in so the house-value stat stays honest — but the earn DENOMINATOR is ₹200, which claws most of it back.
The take
Kotak's whole retail shelf pays double on international spend and then charges 3.5% to make it, which is a joke told at the reader's expense. The NRI Royale Signature is the one card where the first half of that sentence is aimed at somebody it fits: an NRI who earns and spends abroad and keeps an Indian card for the Indian half of their life. It pays 2 reward points per ₹200 outside India against 1 per ₹200 inside it, and — unusually for Kotak — those points are worth a full rupee each, not the 25 paise the Zen and Royale Signature get. So the honest rates are 1.00% abroad and 0.50% at home, with two complimentary domestic lounge visits every quarter and no joining fee at all; the ₹1,000 annual charge is the entire cost, and there is no spend-based waiver for it. The denominator is what caps this card: ₹200 per point is the widest on the Kotak shelf, so a rupee a point still only buys half a percent. Take it for the lounge and the pay-in-INR convenience, not as a rewards engine — and never for foreign spend on the markup, which is the same 3.50% as the rest of the shelf.

The downgrade
Kotak Mahindra Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.
What has changed under this card
- 8 Sep 2026 Flying Blue splits award tickets into Light / Standard / Flex — a 25% rise for the same product a program these points reach

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →
The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.
What's good
- 2 reward points per ₹200 on spends outside India ≈ 1.00% at a full rupee a point
- 2 complimentary domestic lounge visits every quarter at select lounges in India
- No joining fee — ₹1,000 a year is the whole cost, and add-ons are a one-time ₹599
- Add-on cards are issued to family regardless of their location or citizenship
Watch out
- NRI-only: this card is gated on non-resident status, and payments must come from an NRE account
- The earn denominator is ₹200, the widest Kotak uses — a rupee a point still only pays 0.50% at home
- No annual-fee waiver of any kind: Kotak's fee table prints NA, so the ₹1,000 is unavoidable
- 3.50% forex markup — the same as the rest of the Kotak shelf, and five times what the international accelerator pays back
- Closed loop: no airline or hotel transfer partner anywhere in the Kotak programme
- Rent, fuel, wallet loads and skill-gaming earn nothing; education and insurance stop at ₹70,000 a cycle, utilities ₹50,000, government ₹40,000
- Kotak spend-gated the identical quarterly lounge quota on Zen, Royale and Privy League in June 2025 and this page carries no such gate — watch it, because the shelf pattern says it is coming
- No published welcome benefit and no milestone bonuses at all
What these points actually fly
No live transfer route takes Kotak Reward Points into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

What earns, what doesn't
5 sourced rules · 3 pay zero
The one card in this issuer's range that pays MORE abroad than at home — 2 Reward Points per ₹200 outside India against 1 per ₹200 within it, at 1 point = ₹1. Kotak publishes no dated revision table for this card, so the exclusion rows below carry only what its own MCC register states without a threshold. The register also names this card against utilities, insurance, government and education without a ceiling — but the Revised Cardholder Agreement (KOTMITC/07/2026) does publish one, and its accrual-restriction table is what the education row rests on. That same table publishes ₹50,000 for utilities, ₹40,000 for government and ₹70,000 for insurance; those three rows are still to be written.
- Fuel · excluded Zero points — MCC 5172, 5541, 5542 and 5983 on Kotak's own register, which names NRI Royale Signature. Kotak also charges 1% past ₹35,000 of cumulative fuel spend a statement cycle. The 1% surcharge waiver on ₹500–₹3,000 transactions, max ₹3,500 a calendar year, survives
- Rent & property management · excluded Zero points — MCC 6513, plus 1% + GST on every rent transaction
- Wallet loads · excluded Zero points — MCC 6540, plus 1% on cumulative wallet loading past ₹10,000 a statement cycle
- Education · capped Reward points earn only on the first ₹70,000 of education spend a statement cycle, then nothing. Kotak's accrual-restriction table in the Revised Cardholder Agreement (KOTMITC/07/2026) names NRI Royale Signature in the same group as Mojo Platinum, Zen Signature and Royale, and gives education its own ₹70,000 line beside ₹70,000 for insurance, ₹50,000 for utilities and ₹40,000 for government. Inside it the category earns the card's ordinary domestic rate of 1 reward point per ₹200 — the doubled rate this card pays abroad is an international-spend rung and does not reach a school fee paid in India

The cutoffs and the actual route in — not the "apply now" button, the door that opens.
Direct application — no invite list, no banking relationship required.
The gate is residency, not income or invitation: the card is sold to Non-Resident Indians, and the product page runs an eligibility check rather than a plain apply flow. That makes it actionable for the reader it is built for and inert for everyone else — the same shape as a women-only card, not the same shape as a defence-forces card, which is why it is on this board. Statements go by email only and every payment must come from an NRE account. Add-on cards cost ₹599 once each and are issued to family members wherever they live.
Kotak Mahindra Bank publishes no income or age cutoffs for this card. Blank means blank — we don't invent numbers to fill a grid.

The fine print
7 of 7 MITC rows published
What the MITC actually says — the rates, fees and cutoffs the brochure skips.
RCAS fee table verbatim: "NRI Royale Signature | NIL | ₹ 1,000 | NA | NA | ₹ 599" — nothing to join, ₹1,000 every year after, and NO spend condition that waives it. That last column is the one to read twice: most of the Kotak range publishes a retail-spend waiver, this card publishes "NA", so the ₹1,000 is unavoidable for as long as the card is open. Add-on cards are ₹599 each. Special-category transaction fees: 1% on utility spends past ₹50,000 a statement cycle, 1% on fuel past ₹35,000, 1% on wallet loading and online skill-based gaming past ₹10,000 each, 1% + GST on every rent transaction, 1% on third-party-app education payments.

- 30 Sept 2026Dream Different's unredeemed reward points expire after 30 September 2026Reward points accrued on the Dream Different Credit Card up to 31 March 2026 sitting in the account with no stated expiry date → A hard forfeiture date — "After 30th September, 2026, any unredeemed Reward Points will automatically expire"
The second half of the note that closed the programme is the part holders can still act on. Kotak's cardholder agreement gives every Dream Different point accrued up to 31 March 2026 a six-month redemption window that shuts on 30 September 2026, after which unredeemed points are forfeited outright. At the agreement's own conversion rate of 25 paise per point, a year of the card's headline 4-points-per-₹100 online earn on ₹1 lakh of online spend is roughly 4,000 points, about ₹1,000 — small money, but money that becomes zero on 1 October. Points redeem against the Kotak catalogue (flights, hotels, vouchers, merchandise) or as a statement credit through the rewards portal or the contact centre, each with its own minimum, so a last-week redemption risks missing the date on processing alone.
