Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied: it earns nothing on groceries here, so that spend is dropped, not paid at the headline, and stops pacing milestones and the waiver. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Breaks even only by erasing its fee at ₹6,000 a month

At ₹6,000 a month — ₹72,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹200 gross (earn ₹200) against a fee of ₹0 — the ₹499 is waived, the spend having cleared ₹50,000 a year = ₹200 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

The take

Be honest about what this is: a fuel card that happens to clear one of our gates. Almost everything HPCL ENERGIE does is petrol — 24 reward points per ₹150 at HPCL pumps, on the HP Pay app and on LPG, which BOBCARD correctly calls 4% savings, plus the 1% surcharge waiver on top. What puts it on a travel desk is four complimentary domestic lounge visits a year, one a quarter, on a card that costs ₹499 and reverses that at ₹50,000 of annual spend. Nothing else here is travel. Read three numbers before you buy it. First, the denominator is ₹150, not ₹100 — this is the only BOBCARD on that base, so the everyday rate is 2 points per ₹150, which is 0.33%, not the 0.5% the rest of the shelf pays. Second, both accelerated buckets stop at 1,000 points a statement each: ₹6,250 of HPCL fuel and ₹15,000 of utility or department-store spend a month, and a heavy commuter will hit the fuel ceiling in three weeks. Third, since 1 January 2025 the lounge visit needs ₹20,000 of net spend in the preceding calendar quarter, so a quiet quarter closes the door on the next one. Forex is the full 3.5%, there is no transfer partner and there is no international lounge. If you fill up at HPCL and want a lounge chair four times a year for ₹499, it works. For anything else it is the wrong card.

Your renewal — keep, downgrade or cancel

This card reaches break-even by ERASING its fee, not by out-earning it: the waiver is the decision.

₹50,000 annual spend erases that fee
₹6,000/mo is where the waiver, not the earn, saves it

₹499/yr at stake · 5 spend bands

The charge ₹499/yr

The waiver ₹50,000 of spend in the year before renewal — about ₹4,167 a month — and the renewal fee is not charged.

Break-even ₹6,000 a month — ₹72,000 a year — is where this card's value crosses its fee, and it gets there by erasing the fee at the waiver rather than out-earning it.

₹700 a year, net of the fee, at ₹3,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

₹1,400 a year, net of the fee, at ₹6,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

₹2,800 a year, net of the fee, at ₹12,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

₹7,900 a year, net of the fee, at ₹36,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

₹13,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹60,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

The downgrade

BOBCARD (Bank of Baroda) publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

What has changed under this card

  • 25 Aug 2026 BOBCARD withdraws accidental death cover from twenty cards issuer-wide
  • 15 Jul 2026 BOBCARD nearly doubles the spend gate on unlimited domestic lounges issuer-wide
  • 1 Apr 2026 BOBCARD reprices rail, toll and app-routed education issuer-wide

We price what is in force today — a change that has not happened yet is not in these numbers. the full archive for this card →

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • 4 complimentary domestic lounge visits a year, one per calendar quarter, on a ₹499 card
  • Up to 5% back at HPCL — 24 reward points per ₹150 (4%) plus the 1% fuel surcharge waiver
  • 1.67% on BOBCARD's utilities list (MCC 4812 and 4899 — not an electricity bill's 4900) and departmental stores; renewal fee reversed at ₹50,000 of annual spend
  • 500 welcome points for ₹5,000 of spend in the first 60 days

Watch out

  • The earn denominator is ₹150, not ₹100 — the everyday rate is 0.33%, the lowest on the BOBCARD shelf
  • Each accelerated bucket caps at 1,000 reward points a statement: ₹6,250 of HPCL fuel, ₹15,000 of utility spend
  • The fuel rate and the surcharge waiver are HPCL-only; HP Pay wallet loads and direct debits qualify for neither
  • Since 1 January 2025 the lounge visit needs ₹20,000 of net spend in the preceding calendar quarter
  • Forex is 3.5% — HPCL ENERGIE is not in BOBCARD's 2% carve-out
  • No airline or hotel transfer partner and no international lounge; points expire 2 years from accrual
  • UPI transactions earn core points only, and do not count towards the joining bonus or the fee waiver

What these points actually fly

No live transfer route takes BOBCARD Reward Points into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

What earns, what doesn't

12 sourced rules · 6 pay zero
Fuel capped — The one BOBCARD where fuel earns anything — 24 RP/₹150 (16 RP/₹100, about 4%) at HPCL retail outlets, HP Pay and LPG, capped at 1,000 RP a statement cycle, roughly ₹6,250 of fuel. HP Pay direct debit and wallet-load transactions are excluded from both the accelerated points and the surcharge waiver; a 1% fuel-surcharge waiver at HPCL stations on ₹400–₹5,000, max ₹100 a statement. This card is also carved OUT of the 1% processing fee on fuel of ₹10,000+
Rent & property management excluded — Zero points — MCC 6513 sits in Annexure 1, and every rent transaction carries a non-reversible 1% processing fee
Government / tax excluded — Zero points — Annexure 1 covers 9211, 9222, 9311, 9399, 9402 and 9405
Utilities (electricity/water/gas) capped — 10 RP/₹150 (6.67 RP/₹100) on MCC 4812 and 4899, capped at 1,000 RP a statement cycle shared with departmental stores. MCC 4900 is not in that accelerated list and earns core 2 RP/₹150; a utility transaction of ₹50,000 or more carries a 1% processing fee capped at ₹3,000
Insurance excluded — Zero points — Annexure 1 covers 5960 and 6300
Education excluded — Zero points — Annexure 1 covers 8211, 8220, 8241, 8244, 8249 and 8299; paying through a third-party app also draws a 1% fee capped at ₹5,000 per transaction
Wallet loads excluded — Zero points — Annexure 1 covers 6539 to 6543, and wallet loads carry a 1% processing fee
Groceries & supermarkets excluded — Zero points, and this is the trap on a card whose accelerator is "departmental store": the accelerated MCC is 5311, which is NOT a grocery code. Annexure 1's supermarket row covers 5261, 5331, 5411 and 5499, so an actual supermarket swipe earns nothing at all
Dining & food delivery not applicable
Telecom full — Core 2 RP/₹150 — MCC 4814 is in neither Annexure 1 nor this card's accelerated table
Jewellery / gold full — Core 2 RP/₹150 — 5944 and 5094 are in neither Annexure 1 nor this card's accelerated table
Forex / international spends full — Core 2 RP/₹150 only — HPCL Energie's accelerated table is fuel, utilities and departmental stores, with no international flag anywhere in it, and the markup is the standing 3.5%
UPI (RuPay-on-UPI only) full — Core 2 RP/₹150 only, and the product page is blunt about the second half: "UPI transactions are eligible only for core Reward Points. UPI transactions do not qualify for joining rewards and annual fee waiver"
EMI conversions / merchant EMI not applicable

Does your spend count toward the fee waiver?

1 of 15 categories answered

₹50,000 a year is the bar that waives the ₹499 fee. A different question from the one above — earning points and counting toward a threshold are separate rules, and issuers write them separately.

Put your number in

/month

₹80,000 a month of upi (rupay-on-upi only) is ₹9,60,000 a year that counts ₹0 toward the fee waiver.

The product page states it outright — "UPI transactions are eligible only for core Reward Points. UPI transactions do not qualify for joining rewards and annual fee waiver" — so credit-card-on-UPI spend counts ₹0 toward the ₹50,000 anniversary-year renewal-fee waiver. One Key Fact Statement covers the whole BOBCARD shelf (17 Jul 2026 edition). HPCL Energie is ₹499 in both the first-year and the annual column — one figure serving both — but the waiver is asymmetric: the KFS prints NIL against the first-year fee's waiver criteria and reverses only the renewal fee, at ₹50,000 of anniversary-year spend. Two carve-outs run the other way and both favour this card: it is the ONLY BOBCARD exempt from the 1% processing fee on fuel transactions of ₹10,000 or more, and it is the only one on which fuel earns reward points at all. Its fuel surcharge waiver is narrower than the shelf's, though — 1% on ₹400–₹5,000 transactions at HPCL stations only, max ₹100 a statement against ₹250 elsewhere. Forex is the standing 3.5%; the 2% carve-out names six other cards. Interest-free period 20–50 days. The other non-reversible 1% processing fees still apply: rent (MCC 6513), wallet loads (6539–6542), utilities of ₹50,000+, toll and bus (4784) of ₹5,000+, railway (4112) of ₹30,000+, and third-party education-fee apps. Cheque return and auto-debit bounce 2% of the payment, min ₹500. Card replacement ₹100.

Devaluation minor BOBCARD (Bank of Baroda)
BOBCARD withdraws accidental death cover from twenty cards
Air and Non-Air Accidental Death Cover bundled with Eterna, Eterna (FD), Premier, Premier (FD), Select, Select (FD), Tiara, Empower Business, Corporate Platinum, Swavlamban, Prime, Elite, Platinum Select, Signature, Assure, Renaissance and the three Pragati RRB variants. → No Air or Non-Air Accidental Death Cover. Already gone on anything issued after 15 July 2026; existing cardholders keep it only until 25 August 2026.

BOBCARD's July revision notice has a quiet fourth clause, and it lands on 25 August 2026: the Air and Non-Air Accidental Death Cover comes off twenty product variants at once — not just new cards, but every card already in a wallet. Cards issued after 15 July 2026 never had it. Call it minor and mean it, because this desk does not price the perk and neither should you: air-accident death cover is the benefit every Indian issuer prints in bold and nobody ever claims, it pays only on death in a common carrier, and it costs the issuer almost nothing precisely because it almost never pays. Losing it changes no number on this site. What it signals is the direction: the same notice already moved the unlimited-domestic-lounge gate on Eterna, Eterna (FD), Tiara and Varunah Premium from ₹40,000 to ₹75,000 of preceding-quarter spend, and raised the finance charge on Eterna and Tiara from 3.25% to 3.75% a month. The insurance line is the third cut in one PDF, and it is the one that reaches cards nobody thought were being repriced. ON THE LOUNGE DATE, because BOBCARD published three answers and two of them are still live. The 12 June notice set the ₹75,000 gate for 15 July 2026. Four days later, on 16 June, BOBCARD issued an ADDENDUM — "This communication serves as an addendum to our earlier communication on Friday 12th June 2026" — that DEFERRED the lounge change alone: "₹40,000 in preceding calendar quarter" applicable till 30 September 2026, "₹75,000" from 1 October 2026, with the finance-charge and HPCL clauses left at 15 July. Then the operative Features and Rewards T&C dated 15 July 2026 — which POSTDATES the addendum — prints §5.1 Table1 as "Eterna / Unlimited / Rs. 75,000 in preceding calendar quarter", with no date qualifier and no ₹40,000 anywhere, and BOBCARD's product pages agree. The operative document governs, so ₹75,000 is what this desk carries on all four cards; the addendum is recorded here because a reader who reads the addendum and not the T&C will believe they have until October, ; the ₹75,000 gate is the one that applies.
