What it's worth to you, after the fee
Not valued. We can't value this card until the issuer publishes how it earns — every net-value number here would be a fee subtracted from rewards nobody has described. Everything we can source — the fee, the charges, the migration that put this card in your hand — is above and stands on its own; this card is simply not on the board, not in the calculator, and cannot win a best-of call until Kotak Mahindra Bank publishes terms we can cite.

3 notes on the card itself: how it is issued · the network variants · why it ranks #814
Why #814 A free-for-life card built around cash, not points. Fortune is one of only three Kotak cards whose cash advances carry an interest-free period at all — and it publishes no reward rate, so it is carried, not ranked.
The take
Fortune Gold is a card about cash, and it is nearly the only one of its kind on the Indian market. Take a cash advance on almost any credit card and interest starts the instant the notes leave the machine — no grace period, ever. Kotak exempts exactly three cards from that rule, and Fortune is one: cash advances here get the same interest-free window a purchase does, up to 48 days, all year round. Pay the statement in full by the due date and the withdrawal costs you the ₹199-per-₹10,000 advance fee and nothing else. The cash limit is half the credit limit rather than the usual sliver, and Kotak will hand it over at a Visa ATM, at a branch counter, as a demand draft or as an online fund transfer. It costs nothing. Kotak prints NIL against both fee lines and calls it "a free Credit Card for life" on the product page, so the whole facility is available at zero carrying cost. Add the fuel surcharge waiver — 1% on fills between ₹500 and ₹3,000, capped at ₹3,500 a calendar year — and a balance-transfer facility at ₹349 per ₹10,000 that leaves fresh purchases inside their interest-free period, and you have a card built entirely around moving money rather than earning on it. Which is the catch. Kotak's Reward Points Program is defined by a list of the cards it applies to, and Fortune is not on that list. There is no accrual table column for it, no rate on its page and no points to redeem — the only thing it pays is the milestone: ₹1,50,000 of spend in a year buys four PVR tickets or ₹750 back, and even that was once a free IndiGo ticket until Kotak swapped it out in October 2012. The railway surcharge waiver the page still advertises has been dead since 15 April 2013, by the page's own admission. There is no lounge access. Kotak has stopped selling it. But if one is sitting in your wallet, it is a free line of interest-free cash, and there is very little else in India that is.

Keep, downgrade or cancel
what we can and cannot price
Not valued. We can't value this card until the issuer publishes how it earns — every net-value number here would be a fee subtracted from rewards nobody has described. A break-even is the spend at which value crosses a fee, and we are short one side of that sentence — so this desk prints no ladder, no crossing and no ₹0 standing in for either. What we can source about this card is under Sources.

The downgrade
Kotak Mahindra Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and we cannot price either side of it.
What has changed under this card
- 1 Jun 2025 Kotak's June-2025 fee wave washes over the premium deck issuer-wide
- 12 Feb 2025 RBI lifts Kotak's ten-month card-issuance ban issuer-wide

If you call to cancel
What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →
The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.
What's good
- Interest-free cash advances up to 48 days, all year round — one of only three Kotak cards with any grace period on cash at all
- Cash limit is 50% of the credit limit, against the sliver most cards allow
- Free for life: Kotak prints NIL against both fee lines and says so in words on the product page
- Cash out at a Visa ATM, a branch counter, by demand draft or by online fund transfer
- 1% fuel surcharge waived on fills between ₹500 and ₹3,000, up to ₹3,500 a calendar year
- ₹1,50,000 of spend in a year pays 4 PVR tickets or ₹750 back
- Balance transfer at ₹349 per ₹10,000, with fresh purchases keeping their interest-free period
Watch out
- Kotak publishes no reward rate for this card — its Reward Points Program names the variants it applies to and Fortune is not one of them
- The cash advance fee is still ₹199 per ₹10,000; interest-free does not mean free
- The interest-free window on cash collapses if you cancel the card before that cycle's due date — Kotak then back-charges interest from the withdrawal date
- Kotak may refuse a withdrawal outright if your cash spends pass 40% of your total spends for the calendar year
- The railway surcharge waiver on the page has been discontinued since 15 April 2013 — the page says so beneath the heading that advertises it
- No lounge access: Kotak's India lounge programme lists its eligible variants set by set and Fortune is in none of them
- Revolving a purchase balance costs 3.75% a month, 45% a year
- Discontinued for new sourcing — Kotak services existing holders and sells no more
What these points actually fly
Kotak Mahindra Bank has not published what this card earns, so there are no points here to fly with — not zero points, and not points that go nowhere: nothing stated either way. The moment a benefit sheet exists we will price whatever it names.

Does your spend count toward the milestones?
not published — and we say which
₹1,50,000 a year is the bar for the first milestone. A different question from the one above — earning points and counting toward a threshold are separate rules, and issuers write them separately.
Not published. Kotak Mahindra Bank states what the Kotak Fortune Gold earns, but has not published which spend categories count toward the milestones — the ₹1,50,000 bar. We won't guess it from the earn table or from a sibling card: Axis published three cards' rules on one day and all three lists differed. If you hold this card and have it in writing from the issuer, send us the document and we'll source it.

Can you get it?
the route in — no cutoffs published
The cutoffs and the actual route in — not the "apply now" button, the door that opens.
Closed to new applications — existing cardholders keep the card; there is no way in.
You cannot. The product page carries Kotak's discontinuation disclaimer — with the wrong product name in it, "only displayed for existing Essentia cardholders", pasted from the Essentia page. Existing holders keep the card, and it is still priced in the current retail schedule of charges, which is why it is carried here.
Kotak Mahindra Bank publishes no income or age cutoffs for this card. Blank means blank — we don't invent numbers to fill a grid.

- 30 Sept 2026Dream Different's unredeemed reward points expire after 30 September 2026Reward points accrued on the Dream Different Credit Card up to 31 March 2026 sitting in the account with no stated expiry date → A hard forfeiture date — "After 30th September, 2026, any unredeemed Reward Points will automatically expire"
The second half of the note that closed the programme is the part holders can still act on. Kotak's cardholder agreement gives every Dream Different point accrued up to 31 March 2026 a six-month redemption window that shuts on 30 September 2026, after which unredeemed points are forfeited outright. At the agreement's own conversion rate of 25 paise per point, a year of the card's headline 4-points-per-₹100 online earn on ₹1 lakh of online spend is roughly 4,000 points, about ₹1,000 — small money, but money that becomes zero on 1 October. Points redeem against the Kotak catalogue (flights, hotels, vouchers, merchandise) or as a statement credit through the rewards portal or the contact centre, each with its own minimum, so a last-week redemption risks missing the date on processing alone.
