What it's worth to you, after the fee

Welcome: ₹500 off on BookMyShow — movies, streams, events, plays, sports or activities — on one purchase within 30 days of issuance; valid three months

Not valued. We can't value this card until the issuer publishes how it earns — every net-value number here would be a fee subtracted from rewards nobody has described. Everything we can source — the fee, the charges, the migration that put this card in your hand — is above and stands on its own; this card is simply not on the board, not in the calculator, and cannot win a best-of call until RBL Bank publishes terms we can cite.

Why #296 Carried, not valued. PLAY pays in BookMyShow discounts, not points — RBL publishes no reward rate for it and its own page drops the "Redeem your Points" link every sibling card carries.

The take

PLAY is the card RBL now points every other BookMyShow holder at, and for a cinema-going household it is the sharpest ₹500 on this board. Spend ₹5,000 in a billing cycle and you get two tickets worth up to ₹250 each — ₹500 a month, ₹6,000 a year, against a fee that reverses entirely at ₹1.5 lakh of eligible annual spend. Book a movie and you also get ₹100 off food and drink. It is a RuPay-free build issued on Mastercard and Visa, works with UPI and doubles as an NCMC transit card. What it does not appear to have is a rewards programme: the page never says "reward point" anywhere in its own copy — the only seven appearances on the page are RBL's own site menu, a ShopRite cross-sell and a blog headline. So we carry it and price nothing per ₹100 — the vouchers are the product, and they need a ₹5,000 monthly swipe on eligible categories to fire, which excludes fuel, utilities, insurance, rent, education and every wallet load.

Keep, downgrade or cancel

what we can and cannot price

Not valued. We can't value this card until the issuer publishes how it earns — every net-value number here would be a fee subtracted from rewards nobody has described. A break-even is the spend at which value crosses a fee, and we are short one side of that sentence — so this desk prints no ladder, no crossing and no ₹0 standing in for either. What we can source about this card is under Sources.

The downgrade

RBL Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and we cannot price either side of it.

What has changed under this card

  • 7 Jan 2026 RBL bolts a 1% fee onto FASTag loads and tolls — the fifth 1% line on its charge sheet issuer-wide
  • 1 Jul 2025 RBL gates domestic lounges behind ₹35k a quarter issuer-wide
  • 15 Oct 2024 RBL strips points from education, government and wallet spends issuer-wide

We price what is in force today — a change that has not happened yet is not in these numbers. the full archive for this card →

If you call to cancel

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • ₹500 of BookMyShow tickets every billing month you spend ₹5,000
  • ₹100 off food and beverages when you book a movie with the card
  • ₹500 welcome discount on BookMyShow on one purchase in 30 days
  • Fee reverses on ₹1.5 lakh of eligible annual spend
  • Works on UPI and doubles as an NCMC tap-and-transit card

Watch out

  • RBL publishes NO reward rate for this card, and nothing in the page's own copy mentions reward points — the only mentions are site menu and cross-sell
  • The monthly ₹500 needs ₹5,000 of ELIGIBLE spend — fuel, utilities, insurance, rent, education, wallets, government, cash, EMI and Bills2Pay do not count
  • The monthly benefit must be used in a single booking of at least two tickets, inside one billing cycle
  • The BookMyShow "Superstar" fee waiver only applies if the card was sourced through BookMyShow
  • RBL and BookMyShow have a revenue-sharing arrangement on this card, which RBL discloses on the page
  • RBL charges 1% on FIVE transaction types its Schedule of Charges lists separately from the reward exclusions: rent (MCC 6513, on every transaction), fuel and auto above ₹10,000 a transaction (capped at ₹3,000), utility spends above ₹50,000 a month, education paid through third-party apps such as CRED, PhonePe or Paytm (school and college websites are exempt), and — with effect from 7 January 2026 — FASTag loading and tolls above ₹10,000 a transaction. These are FEES, listed nowhere near the reward exclusions: a category can both cost you 1% and earn you nothing

What these points actually fly

RBL Bank has not published what this card earns, so there are no points here to fly with — not zero points, and not points that go nowhere: nothing stated either way. The moment a benefit sheet exists we will price whatever it names.

Does your spend count toward the fee waiver?

not published — and we say which

₹1,50,000 a year is the bar that waives the ₹500 fee. A different question from the one above — earning points and counting toward a threshold are separate rules, and issuers write them separately.

Not published. RBL Bank states what the RBL Bank PLAY earns, but has not published which spend categories count toward the fee waiver — the ₹1,50,000 bar. We won't guess it from the earn table or from a sibling card: Axis published three cards' rules on one day and all three lists differed. If you hold this card and have it in writing from the issuer, send us the document and we'll source it.

RBL relaunches the Shoppers Stop co-brand as a Gold / Platinum / Black trio
An older single Shoppers Stop co-brand line → Three tiers — Gold (₹1,000), Platinum (₹5,000), Black (₹10,000) annual — earning 10 RP/₹200 (Gold, Platinum) or 15 RP/₹200 (Black) across the Shoppers Stop Universe, with points worth ₹0.25 / ₹0.50 / ₹1.00 respectively

RBL rebuilt its Shoppers Stop co-brand into a three-card ladder. The fee rung buys a richer point, not just more of them: a Reward Point is worth ₹0.25 on Gold, ₹0.50 on Platinum and ₹1.00 on Black, so Black's 15 RP per ₹200 at ₹1 a point is a genuine 7.5% back on First Citizen days inside the Shoppers Stop Universe. Welcome vouchers scale the same way (₹500 quarterly on Gold, ₹2,000 plus Platinum membership and a makeover on Platinum, ₹1,500 quarterly on Black). No lounge access on any of the three — these are store cards and earn like it, with value only inside Shoppers Stop. All three are already on our board.
