Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Pays from the first rupee

At ₹1,000 a month — ₹12,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹100 gross (earn ₹100) against its ₹0 fee = ₹100 net — at or above ₹0 from the first rung we price. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

3 notes on the card itself: how it is issued · the network variants · why it ranks #591

Canara Bank · RuPay · entry

RuPay — Platinum — 2 visits/quarter but capped at 4 a YEAR by Canara's own footnote, so effectively 4 Mastercard — Platinum — 2 self + 1 guest per quarter, the only variant on this tier with guest access Visa — Platinum — 2 visits/quarter for yourself, no guests

Why #591 A free card with eight domestic lounge visits a year earns its place, but it sits below Canara's own Select tier for one reason: there is no international access at this rung, and the same 0.5% earn is doing all the other work.

The take

This is the cheap rung of Canara's free shelf and it does one job: it gets you through a domestic lounge door eight times a year for nothing. No joining fee, no annual fee, no enrolment fee, on the primary and every add-on. Take the Mastercard Platinum and a guest comes with you once a quarter, which is the only meaningful difference between the three badges — except for a contradiction on the RuPay leg that a reader will only discover at the door: Canara's own table says "2 per Qtr for Self" and then footnotes it "*cap of 4 per annum", which halves the year. Assume four on RuPay until Canara says otherwise. Everything else is the shelf standard: 2 points per ₹100, a point fixed at ₹0.25, so 0.5% with no accelerator and no milestone; a 3% forex markup; cashback or the canararewardz catalogue as the only exits, with no airline or hotel on the far side. There is no international lounge access at this tier at all — that starts one rung up at Select/World, which costs exactly the same nothing. If Canara will give you the Select tier, take it instead. This one is the fallback, not the pick.

The downgrade

Canara Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

If you call to cancel

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • No joining fee, no annual fee, no enrolment fee, on the primary and every add-on
  • 8 domestic lounge visits a year on Mastercard and Visa Platinum — 4 a guest can use on Mastercard
  • Turnover bar is only ₹50,000 a year, the lowest on Canara's lounge-bearing shelf
  • ₹8,00,000 air-accident cover, ₹5,00,000 fraudulent-charge cover, ₹25,000 each of baggage and purchase protection
  • Credit limit up to ₹50,00,000 and up to 50 interest-free days

Watch out

  • No international lounge access at this tier — Canara's variants table reads "Not Available"
  • RuPay Platinum's quota contradicts itself: 2 a quarter, footnoted as a cap of 4 a year. Budget for 4
  • Spend under ₹50,000 in a card year and Canara charges a ₹200 inactivity fee, so it is not unconditionally free
  • 0.5% flat — 2 points per ₹100 at ₹0.25 each, with fuel and cash withdrawals earning nothing
  • No transfer partners; cashback or the canararewardz catalogue, and the catalogue adds a processing fee
  • 3% forex markup, and no welcome bonus or milestone ladder is published
  • Canara's Select/World/Signature tier costs the same ₹0 and carries international access — ask for that first

What these points actually fly

No live transfer route takes Canara Reward Points into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

Not confirmed on sale — the issuer still documents this card but we could not confirm it is open to new applications. Treat any application path with care.

Branch application or Canara's pre-approved funnel at jns.canarabank.bank.in. The same tier is sold as "Rupay Platinum Secured" against a fixed deposit, which is the route when an unsecured limit is not on offer — and the secured flavour revolves at 2.00% a month against 2.50% on the unsecured card. Ask what Select/World eligibility looks like before you accept Platinum: the fee is identical and the tier above adds international lounge access and a guest allowance.

Canara Bank publishes no income or age cutoffs for this card. Blank means blank — we don't invent numbers to fill a grid.
