Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Breaks even only by erasing its fee at ₹5,000 a month

At ₹5,000 a month — ₹60,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹600 gross (earn ₹600) against a fee of ₹0 — the ₹550 is waived, the spend having cleared ₹50,000 a year = ₹600 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

Why #161 Eight domestic and two international lounge visits for ₹550, waived at ₹50k of spend — the cheapest real lounge quota on this board. Held back only by a 1% point with no way out and 3% forex.

₹550 + GST
Annual fee1
₹50,000 spend
Fee waiver

₹0.25 a point, printed on the product page as "4 points (1 Reward point = Rs. 0.25)". Redemption runs through the Union Rewardz app or unionrewardz.com — gift vouchers, "travel experiences" or a credit to your own bill. No airline, no hotel, no transfer partner on any Union Bank card.

The take

This is the chassis the whole Union Bank shelf is bolted to — NEXTERIA, UNICORN and Sparsh all say in terms that their other charges match this variant — and on the one number that matters at the entry end it is unusually good. Two domestic lounge visits a quarter plus two international a year, for ₹550, waived outright once you have put ₹50,000 through the card in a year. ICICI Coral charges ₹500 for one domestic visit a quarter behind a ₹75,000 spend gate and gives you no international access at all. Four reward points per ₹100 at a flat ₹0.25 is a straight 1%, which is double what Coral, RuPay Platinum or the JCB Health card pay. The problems are the ones the whole shelf shares. Union Rewardz points redeem for gift vouchers or a credit against your own statement, and Union Bank names no airline and no hotel partner on any card it issues, so 1% is a ceiling rather than a starting point. Forex is 3% — better than the 3.5% norm, not by enough to take this abroad on purpose. And the bank's own product page is a data-quality embarrassment: its fee table prints the annual fee as the literal string "Rs. + GST", with the number simply missing. It is ₹550; the MITC says so. Buy it for the lounge quota, ignore the points, and keep it — at ₹50,000 of annual spend it costs nothing to hold.

Your renewal — keep, downgrade or cancel

This card reaches break-even by ERASING its fee, not by out-earning it: the waiver is the decision.

₹50,000 annual spend erases that fee

₹550/yr at stake · 5 spend bands

The charge ₹550/yr

The waiver ₹50,000 of spend in the year before renewal — about ₹4,167 a month — and the renewal fee is not charged.

Break-even ₹5,000 a month — ₹60,000 a year — is where this card's value crosses its fee, and it gets there by erasing the fee at the waiver rather than out-earning it.

At your spend

₹3,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹3,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

₹6,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹6,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

₹12,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹12,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

₹36,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹36,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

₹60,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹60,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

Everyday earn plus milestones, minus the fee — the same model as the value panel above, so the two cannot disagree. run your exact spend →

The downgrade

Union Bank of India publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

If you call to cancel

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • 8 domestic lounge visits a year (2 a quarter) plus 2 international — for ₹550
  • Fee waived in year one, and never levied again above ₹50,000 of previous-year spend
  • 1% back — 4 points per ₹100 at ₹0.25 — double what most cards at this price pay
  • ₹10 lakh of accidental cover at NPCI's cost, with a ₹30 lakh top-up if you want it
  • Up to 3 add-on cards for spouse, children and parents

Watch out

  • Union Rewardz has NO airline or hotel partner — the points only pay your own bill
  • 3% forex, on a card that hands you two international lounge visits
  • Union Bank's own fee table prints the annual fee as "Rs. + GST" — the number is missing from the page
  • No welcome benefit and no milestone ladder are published for this card
  • The international lounge operator is never named — the page links only the RuPay domestic list

What these points actually fly

No live transfer route takes Union Rewardz Points into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

Does your spend count toward the fee waiver?

not published — and we say which

₹50,000 a year is the bar that waives the ₹550 fee. A different question from the one above — earning points and counting toward a threshold are separate rules, and issuers write them separately.

Not published. Union Bank of India states what the Union Bank RuPay Select earns, but has not published which spend categories count toward the fee waiver — the ₹50,000 bar. We won't guess it from the earn table or from a sibling card: Axis published three cards' rules on one day and all three lists differed. If you hold this card and have it in writing from the issuer, send us the document and we'll source it.

One MITC covers the whole Union Bank shelf (version 1.4, effective 25 Sep 2025) and it is the ONLY place the annual fee exists — the product page's own fee table prints the string "Rs. + GST" with the number missing. MITC: RuPay Select NIL joining, ₹550 annual primary and ₹450 add-on, waived in year one and not levied again above ₹50,000 of previous-year usage. Card replacement ₹249. Fuel surcharge waiver 1% capped at ₹100 a billing cycle. Railway transactions carry 1.5% plus IRCTC charges. Union Bank publishes no income criteria and no monthly reward cap for this card.
