What it's worth to you, after the fee

Not valued. We can't value this card until the issuer publishes how it earns — every net-value number here would be a fee subtracted from rewards nobody has described. Everything we can source — the fee, the charges, the migration that put this card in your hand — is above and stands on its own; this card is simply not on the board, not in the calculator, and cannot win a best-of call until Union Bank of India publishes terms we can cite.

RuPay — Select variant — Union's own words, "Rupay Select variant of NPCI", which is also why the MITC prices its insurance and its ₹249 replacement fee off the RuPay Select tier

Why #536 A business card carried, not ranked. What it is: Union Bank's free card for MSME borrowers, carrying the ₹30,00,000 accidental-death cover the bank reserves for its top tier and none of the earn it publishes for anything else. It cannot withdraw cash and its limit cannot be temporarily raised.

The take

Union MSME is the free card Union Bank puts in front of its micro, small and medium enterprise borrowers, and it is genuinely free: the fee grid in both the MITC and the Key Fact Statement prints NIL against the admission fee and NIL against the annual fee, with the add-on columns marked NA because there is no add-on card. Nothing to clear, nothing to watch for in year two. The surprise is the insurance. Union's accidental-death table puts this card in its TOP band — ₹30,00,000, the same as VISA Signature, UNICORN and Union JCB Wellness, and three times what the consumer Visa Platinum gets — and NPCI's separate free cover puts it in the ₹10,00,000 band with RuPay Select. For a card that costs nothing, that is the whole proposition, and it is the reason to hold one rather than a free consumer card. Two hard limits shape how it can actually be used. Cash withdrawals are not allowed at all: Union's cash-limit table gives every consumer card a share of its limit, 20% on the Gold up to 40% on RuPay Select, and puts this card in the "not Allowed" row. And the ₹200 temporary credit-limit enhancement every other Union card can buy is refused here in the service- charge table's own parenthesis, "(Not allowed for Union MSME)" — so a month with a large supplier bill has to fit inside the sanctioned limit or wait. What Union has not published is the earn. Its reward rates live on product pages and this card has none. The regulatory documents state a rate for UNICORN and NEXTERIA only, and otherwise name just the two cards that earn nothing — PM SVANidhi and the Micro Enterprise card, neither of which is this one. So it earns something and nobody has said what.

Your renewal — keep, downgrade or cancel

There is no renewal arithmetic to run on this card yet — and a break-even we cannot source is not one we will print.

Keep, downgrade or cancel

what we can and cannot price

Not valued. We can't value this card until the issuer publishes how it earns — every net-value number here would be a fee subtracted from rewards nobody has described. A break-even is the spend at which value crosses a fee, and we are short one side of that sentence — so this desk prints no ladder, no crossing and no ₹0 standing in for either. What we can source about this card is under Sources.

The downgrade

Union Bank of India publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and we cannot price either side of it.

If you call to cancel

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • Lifetime free — both regulatory documents print NIL against the admission fee and the annual fee
  • ₹30,00,000 accidental-death cover, Union's top band, shared with VISA Signature, UNICORN and Union JCB Wellness
  • A further ₹10,00,000 of NPCI accidental-death cover at RuPay Select level, with the premium borne by NPCI
  • 3% foreign-currency markup — half a point under India's 3.5% norm
  • 20 to 50 interest-free days, with bills on the 10th or 25th of the month and 20 days from billing to pay

Watch out

  • Cash withdrawals are not allowed at all — Union's cash-limit table puts this card in the "not Allowed" row with PM SVANidhi and the Micro Enterprise card
  • No temporary credit-limit enhancement: Union's service-charge table refuses it in its own parenthesis, "(Not allowed for Union MSME)" — the only card named that way
  • UNION HAS NOT PUBLISHED WHAT THIS CARD EARNS. Its rates live on the benefits tables of its credit-card product pages, and this card's page — filed under MSME loans — has no such table, so the desk carries it without valuing it, ranking it or putting it in the calculator
  • No add-on cards: both add-on columns of the fee grid read NA
  • The product page is filed under MSME LOANS, not credit cards — Union's credit-card listing carries fourteen and not this one, and the page it does have states purpose, limit and card type but carries no benefits or rewards table
  • No lounge access is claimed for any Union card anywhere in the MITC, and the insurance tier this card shares with RuPay Select is not a lounge quota
  • Card replacement is ₹249, the RuPay Select rate rather than the ₹149 Union charges on its cheaper cards

What these points actually fly

Union Bank of India has not published what this card earns, so there are no points here to fly with — not zero points, and not points that go nowhere: nothing stated either way. The moment a benefit sheet exists we will price whatever it names.

Direct application — no invite list, no banking relationship required.

Through the Union Bank branch that holds the enterprise's borrowing relationship. The card's own page carries an "Apply Now" enquiry form rather than an application funnel, and the limit is not applied for at all — it is carved out of a working-capital limit already sanctioned, at 20% of it. Ask what it earns before signing: Union prices its reward points on the benefits tables of its credit-card product pages, and this page has none.
