What it's worth to you, after the fee
Welcome: Complimentary Paytm First membership on one transaction of ₹100 within a year, plus a ₹500 gift voucher for activating the card with at least four transactions in the first 30 days
Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied: it earns nothing on fuel here, so that spend is dropped, not paid at the headline, and stops pacing milestones and the waiver. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — and a business card's accelerator is usually the point. This card is not on the board, which ranks personal cards only; it is ranked against other business cards on /best/business, where the tax, GST and vendor-payment rungs ARE credited and its ₹ reads higher.

Breaks even only by erasing its fee at ₹9,000 a month
At ₹9,000 a month — ₹1,08,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹1,000 gross (earn ₹1,000) against a fee of ₹0 — the ₹1,000 is waived, the spend having cleared ₹1,00,000 a year = ₹1,000 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.
3 notes on the card itself: how it is issued · the network variants · why it ranks #222
Why #222 The only card in HDFC's Paytm range with a real airport benefit — twelve complimentary domestic lounge visits a calendar year — and a 5% leg that explicitly includes Paytm Travel. It ranks above its Paytm siblings on that and below the travel board proper because the points are CashPoints, which reach no airline and no hotel.
CashPoints, not rupees. HDFC's FAQ for this card says "Cashback is accrued as Cashpoints in your card account … Cashpoints can be redeemed by the customer against outstanding balance as cashback or can be used for redeeming against other categories such as Smartbuy (Flights/Hotels), Airmiles & Product Catalogue." Against the statement that is ₹1 a point; the SmartBuy and Airmiles avenues are worse, and overall CashBack redemption is capped at 3,000 points a calendar month.
The take
Confusingly, HDFC sells two cards called Paytm Select — a consumer one and this business one — at what looks like the same price, and they are different products with different waivers. This is the business version, sold to Paytm merchants through the Paytm app, and it is the only card in the whole Paytm range with a travel benefit worth the name: twelve complimentary domestic airport lounge visits in a calendar year, on the Visa list HDFC maintains. That alone is worth several times the fee to anyone who flies domestically more than a few times a year. The earn is the best of the family too, and the reason is one word in the 5% bucket. HDFC's FAQ defines it as "5% Cashback on Paytm [Recharge + Utility + Movies + Mini App + Travel]" — travel is INSIDE the accelerator here and outside it on every sibling — capped at ₹1,500 a calendar month, which is ₹30,000 of Paytm spend. Below that sit 3% on Swiggy, AJIO, Big Basket and Uber, capped at ₹500 a month, and 1% on everything else, capped at ₹2,000. Three separate ceilings totalling ₹4,000 a calendar month, which is a genuinely high roof for a card at this price. Add a ₹500 activation voucher for four transactions in the first thirty days and a ₹1,000 voucher at ₹2 lakh of annual spend. The catch is the currency, and it is the same catch every HDFC cashback card has: CashPoints are ₹1 only against the statement, HDFC caps overall redemption at 3,000 points a month, and the SmartBuy and Airmiles routes pay less. So the lounge is the travel benefit; the points are not. EMI, rent, fuel, education and wallet loads all earn nothing. And be careful with the fee — HDFC's three documents do not agree on whether renewal is ₹1,000 or ₹500, and we carry the higher figure the card's own FAQ states.
Your renewal — keep, downgrade or cancel
This card reaches break-even by ERASING its fee, not by out-earning it: the waiver is the decision.
Keep, downgrade or cancel
₹1,000/yr at stake · 5 spend bands
The charge ₹1,000/yr
The waiver ₹1,00,000 of spend in the year before renewal — about ₹8,333 a month — and the renewal fee is not charged.
Break-even ₹9,000 a month — ₹1,08,000 a year — is where this card's value crosses its fee, and it gets there by erasing the fee at the waiver rather than out-earning it.
At your spend
₹3,800 a year, net of the fee, at ₹3,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged
₹6,600 a year, net of the fee, at ₹6,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged
₹12,300 a year, net of the fee, at ₹12,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged
₹25,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹36,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged
₹25,000 a year, net of the fee, at ₹60,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged
Everyday earn plus milestones, minus the fee — the same model as the value panel above, so the two cannot disagree. run your exact spend →

The downgrade
HDFC Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.
What has changed under this card
- 1 Sep 2026 SmartBuy moves Amazon Pay gift cards to 1X under Insta Deals issuer-wide
- 1 Jul 2026 HDFC caps SmartBuy brand-voucher rewards issuer-wide
- 15 May 2026 HDFC lifts its DCC markup to 1.75% across the card range issuer-wide

What's good
- 12 complimentary domestic airport lounge visits in a calendar year — the only Paytm card that has any
- 5% on Paytm recharge, utility, movies, Mini App and TRAVEL, capped at ₹1,500 a calendar month
- 3% on Swiggy, AJIO, Big Basket and Uber, on a separate ₹500-a-month ceiling
- 1% on everything else, capped at ₹2,000 a calendar month — a ₹4,000 monthly roof across all three legs
- ₹500 activation voucher, a ₹1,000 voucher at ₹2 lakh of annual spend, and a complimentary Paytm First membership
Watch out
- HDFC's own documents disagree on the renewal fee: the FAQ and the fees page say ₹1,000, the product page says ₹500 from the second year. We carry ₹1,000
- Each leg has its own calendar-month ceiling — ₹1,500, ₹500, ₹2,000 — so the card tops out at ₹4,000 a month
- The 1% stops at ₹2,00,000 of monthly spend, where its ₹2,000 ceiling bites
- The earn is CashPoints, not money: ₹1 against the statement only, overall redemption capped at 3,000 points a calendar month, and the SmartBuy and Airmiles routes pay less
- EMI spends, rent, fuel, education and wallet loads earn nothing; rent and education were removed on 1 January 2023
- Do not confuse it with the consumer Paytm HDFC Bank Select — same family, ₹1,000 too, but different waivers (₹50,000/₹1.5 lakh there against ₹60,000/₹1 lakh here)
- Self-employed only, with a stated annual ITR floor above ₹8,00,000 and an age band of 21 to 65
- No transfer partner — CashPoints reach no airline and no hotel programme, so the lounge is the entire travel case
- 1% mark-up on international dynamic-currency-conversion transactions
What these points actually fly
No live transfer route takes HDFC Bank CashPoints into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

What earns, what doesn't
11 sourced rules · 6 pay zero
The only card in HDFC's Paytm range where TRAVEL sits inside the top accelerator: the FAQ defines the 5% bucket as "Paytm [Recharge + Utility + Movies + Mini App + Travel]", capped at ₹1,500 a calendar month. Three separate ceilings — ₹1,500, ₹500, ₹2,000 — sum to ₹4,000 a month.
- Fuel · excluded Fuel earns nothing; the 1% surcharge waiver applies on ₹400–₹5,000 transactions, up to ₹250 a statement cycle
- Wallet loads · excluded Wallet loads earn nothing
- Rent & property management · excluded Rental spends earn nothing and are excluded from the ₹2 lakh milestone count
- Utilities (electricity/water/gas) · accelerated 5% on utility bills paid inside Paytm, in the shared ₹1,500 monthly bucket
Does your spend count toward the fee waiver?
not published — and we say which
₹1,00,000 a year is the bar that waives the ₹1,000 fee. A different question from the one above — earning points and counting toward a threshold are separate rules, and issuers write them separately.
Not published. HDFC Bank states what the Paytm HDFC Bank Select Business earns and does not earn, but has not published which spend categories count toward the fee waiver and the milestones — the ₹1,00,000 bar. We won't guess it from the earn table or from a sibling card: Axis published three cards' rules on one day and all three lists differed. If you hold this card and have it in writing from the issuer, send us the document and we'll source it.

A merchant's card, applied for in the Paytm app: HDFC's FAQ says it is "exclusive for Paytm customers. Paytm customers can get this card by applying for the card on Paytm app." The published criteria are the most specific in the family — self-employed, Indian, 21 to 65 years old, with an annual ITR above ₹8,00,000. The fee is where HDFC's own documents fall out of step, and all three are current. The card's dedicated fees page prints one figure, "Membership fees: ₹1,000 plus applicable taxes", and its FAQ says "a cardholder is charged with annual fee of Rs.1,000 (plus applicable taxes) only after 90 days of issuance if the cardholder has not activated the credit card". The product page's Fees block instead splits them: "Joining Membership Fee: ₹1000 … Membership Renewal Fee 2nd year onwards: ₹500 plus Applicable Taxes per year". We carry ₹1,000 — two documents against one, and the FAQ is card-specific — and record the ₹500 here rather than averaging them. All three agree on the waivers: ₹60,000 of non-EMI spend within the first ninety days clears the first year, ₹1,00,000 within twelve months clears each renewal.

The fine print
0 of 7 MITC rows published
What the MITC actually says — the rates, fees and cutoffs the brochure skips.
THE FEE IS DISPUTED BETWEEN THREE CURRENT HDFC DOCUMENTS. The card-specific FAQ says "a cardholder is charged with annual fee of Rs.1,000 (plus applicable taxes) only after 90 days of issuance if the cardholder has not activated the credit card"; the dedicated fees page says "Membership fees: ₹1,000 plus applicable taxes" and prints no second figure; the product page splits them as "Joining Membership Fee: ₹1000 … Membership Renewal Fee 2nd year onwards: ₹500 plus Applicable Taxes per year". We carry ₹1,000 — two documents against one, and the FAQ is card-specific. The KFS row's fee cell is blank, so it does not adjudicate. All three agree on the waivers: ₹60,000 non-EMI in the first 90 days for year one, ₹1,00,000 non-EMI in 12 months for renewal. EARN: 5% on Paytm Recharge, Utility, Movies, Mini App AND TRAVEL (capped ₹1,500 a calendar month), 3% on Swiggy, AJIO, Big Basket and Uber (capped ₹500), 1% on all other spends (capped ₹2,000) — three separate ceilings summing to ₹4,000 a month. Travel sitting INSIDE the 5% bucket is what distinguishes this card from every Paytm sibling. LOUNGE: "Paytm HDFC Bank Select Business Credit Card offers 12 domestic lounge visits in a year. The updated lounge list can be viewed at: List of Airport Lounges as shared by VISA" — the only lounge benefit in the Paytm range, and the network evidence. Earn accrues as CashPoints redeemable against outstanding balance or against SmartBuy (Flights/Hotels), Airmiles and the product catalogue, with overall redemption capped at 3,000 points a month. Nothing earns on wallet loads, fuel, EMI, rent, education or government spends. ₹500 gift voucher on activation with 4 transactions in 30 days; ₹1,000 gift voucher at ₹2 lakh of annual non-EMI, non-rental spend; Paytm First membership (HDFC values it at ₹1,800) on one ₹100 transaction within a year. Fuel surcharge 1% on ₹400–₹5,000, max ₹250 a statement cycle. DO NOT CONFUSE with the consumer hdfc-paytm-select, also ₹1,000: the waivers differ (₹50,000 / ₹1.5 lakh there against ₹60,000 / ₹1 lakh here), and that is the reliable tell.

- 1 Sept 2026SmartBuy moves Amazon Pay gift cards to 1X under Insta DealsAmazon Pay Gift Voucher sat in SmartBuy's accelerated tier — 'up to 5X Reward Points or 5% cashback' → 'Insta Deals: 1 % Instant Discount + 1X Reward Points' — this brand is out of the accelerated tier
The most-farmed HDFC voucher route stopped being a points play. SmartBuy's own voucher storefront now shows the Amazon Pay Gift Voucher under a new "Insta Deals" tile reading "1 % Instant Discount + 1X Reward Points", and the page's own description flipped from "up to 5X Reward Points or 5% cashback" to "up to 1X". The comparison that settles it sits on the same storefront: the Amazon Fresh voucher still carries an "Accelerated Rewards — Upto 5X Reward Points RPs / 5% Cashback" block that the Amazon Pay page no longer has, so this is one brand leaving the accelerated tier, not the tier closing. The date, honestly: the Insta Deals offer ("Flat 1% OFF", ₹10,000 monthly limit) was already live in the page's own data on 31 August 2026, the reward line still read 5X in the 1 September 16:26 UTC archive capture, and read 1X when this desk fetched the page on 2 September — so 1 September is the community's effective date sitting inside a window we can bracket from primary captures, not a figure HDFC published. The bank has announced nothing and no SmartBuy page carries a notice. Two pieces of context for the size of it: brand vouchers were already sub-capped at 3,000 accelerated points a month from 1 July 2026, and Amazon Pay vouchers disappeared from the portal entirely for stretches of July and August before returning in this shape. Flipkart and Amazon Fresh vouchers still pay the accelerated rate; the ₹10,000-a-month Amazon Pay lane now pays base earn plus the 1% instant discount.
