Welcome: A ₹250 gift card plus 250 Stars in the Google Pay app, and 2 Stars per ₹500 through the first reward period — subject to the offers Google Pay is running

Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Pays from the first rupee

At ₹1,000 a month — ₹12,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹0 gross (earn ₹0) against its ₹0 fee = ₹0 net — at or above ₹0 from the first rung we price. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

Why #241 A rupee a Star is honest and the redemption is instant, but one Star per ₹500 is 0.2% and the 4X and 8X tiers Google funds are described on Axis's own page as a promotional campaign that can be withdrawn.

Stars are not a loyalty point with a spread — Axis states "One star is equal to ₹1", and a Star is spent by redeeming it while making a UPI payment on the card in Google Pay, which lands as instant cashback against the card. Value, floor and ceiling are all ₹1.00, there is no transfer route in or out, and no award seat is ever behind it. It is indexed on Google Pay Stars rather than on the Axis cashback rupee, because the balance sits in a Google Pay account rather than on the card — and because it expires after a year, which cashback does not. Same unit, same treatment, as the SBI card on the same programme.

The take

This is the cleanest UPI credit card in the country and one of the least rewarding, and both halves are worth saying. Free forever — Axis's own fee table prints "Waived" against the joining charge, the annual charge, card replacement, duplicate statements and half a dozen other rows. It lives inside Google Pay, so a kirana QR code becomes a credit transaction and the bill arrives in the same app you paid from, with the option to break it into EMIs above ₹2,500. And the reward is a rupee, not a point: Axis says "One star is equal to ₹1", you redeem Stars while making a UPI payment, and the cashback lands instantly against the card. No catalogue, no minimum, no ₹99 redemption fee, no expiry games. Now the rate. One Star per cumulative ₹500 is 0.2%. Spend ₹100 in a cycle and the next cycle runs at 2X — 0.4% — which is where any active holder actually sits, so 0.4% is the honest headline. Above that, 4X needs ₹15,000 in the cycle and 8X needs ₹30,000, which would be 0.8% and 1.6%, except that Axis's own footnote says those two tiers are "offered by Google Pay directly" as "a promotional campaign … subject to change from time to time" — a rate a partner funds and can withdraw is not a rate you should buy a card for. Also read the fee table: 1% on every rent transaction, 3.5% forex, and a dynamic-currency-conversion markup on rupee transactions at foreign-registered merchants that went 1.5% → 3.5% on 28 August 2026. Take it as a free, well-built UPI credit line that pays real money at a modest rate. Do not take it as a rewards card; Axis's revised terms have been in force since 28 August 2026.

The downgrade

Axis Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

What has changed under this card

  • 23 Sep 2026 Axis EDGE brings Accor back, drops ITC, and adds Cathay, Miles & More and Hilton issuer-wide
  • 28 Aug 2026 Axis more than doubles its DCC markup — 3.5% generic, but Olympus and Magnus get their own rates issuer-wide
  • 28 Aug 2026 Priority Pass stops opening Indian domestic lounges on every Axis card issuer-wide

If you call to cancel

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • Lifetime free — Axis's own fee table prints "Waived" against both the joining and the annual fee
  • Stars are rupees: "One star is equal to ₹1", redeemed during a UPI payment as instant cashback against the card
  • 0.4% at the 2X tier, which unlocks on just ₹100 of spend in the previous cycle
  • Earns on all eligible spends including fuel
  • ₹250 gift card plus 250 Stars as a welcome reward on the Google Pay app
  • Bills, limits and repayment all managed inside Google Pay; transactions of ₹2,500 or more can be converted to EMI
  • No reward redemption fee, no card replacement fee, no duplicate statement fee

Watch out

  • 0.2% at the published base rate and 0.4% once the 2X tier is on — the rate is small however you count it
  • The 4X and 8X tiers are funded by Google Pay as a promotional campaign and Axis's own page says they are subject to change
  • 1% fee on every rent transaction
  • 3.5% foreign-currency markup, plus a dynamic-currency-conversion markup on rupee transactions at merchants registered abroad that went 1.5% → 3.5% on 28 Aug 2026
  • Stars reach no airline and no hotel — the unit is a rupee and it stays one
  • Applied for and managed only inside the Google Pay app; there is no branch or website route
  • Axis changed this card's terms and conditions with effect from 28 August 2026

What these points actually fly

No live transfer route takes Google Pay Stars into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

Direct application — no invite list, no banking relationship required.

Google Pay only. Axis's own instruction is to open the Money tab in the Google Pay app and look for the "Flex by Google Pay" section; the bank's website carries the product page and the fee table but no application form of its own. It is a genuine Axis Bank credit card with a full Axis fee schedule behind it, not a credit line on UPI — the fee table names finance charges, late payment slabs, cash payment fees and a foreign-currency markup the way every other Axis card's does.

What the MITC actually says — the rates, fees and cutoffs the brochure skips.

Forex markup 3.50% of the transaction value; dynamic currency conversion markup 3.5% + taxes — raised from 1.5% on 28 August 2026 — on any rupee transaction at an overseas location or at an India-located merchant registered in a foreign nation.
APR 3.75%/mo (55.54%/yr) on retail purchases and cash
Late fee Nil if the total payment due is under ₹500; ₹500 (₹501–5,000); ₹750 (₹5,001–10,000); ₹1,200 (above ₹10,000). A ₹1,300 band above ₹50,000 has applied since 28 August 2026.
Cash advance not published
Add-on card not published
Overlimit not published
Redemption fee Nil — the fee table's "Reward redemption fee" row reads "No", and Stars are redeemed inside Google Pay during a UPI payment rather than through a catalogue

Lifetime free — Axis's own fee table reads "Waived" against BOTH the joining and the annual row, and against card replacement, duplicate statement, charge-slip retrieval, mini-statement SMS, outstation cheque and balance enquiry. A 1% fee applies to every rent transaction. Cash payment fee ₹175; cheque return or auto-debit reversal 2% of the payment, minimum ₹500. Earns Stars, which Axis fixes at "One star is equal to ₹1", redeemed during a UPI payment on Google Pay as instant cashback against the card — 1 Star per cumulative ₹500 base, 2X after ₹100 of spend in the previous cycle, and 4X/8X tiers above ₹15,000/₹30,000 in a cycle that Axis's own footnote calls a Google Pay promotional campaign "subject to change". Sold and managed only inside the Google Pay app ("Flex by Google Pay" in the Money tab). Terms changed with effect from 28 August 2026.

The Reserve's memberships stop renewing unless you say yes
Club ITC Culinaire, Accorplus, handcrafted Club Marriott Asia Pacific, EazyDiner Prime and Priority Pass renewed automatically each year for as long as the card was open → From 15 Nov 2026 complimentary memberships linked to the card renew only with the cardholder's explicit consent — Axis says renewal and consent details will be shared closer to each renewal date. The same notice flips Priority Pass off at Indian domestic lounges from 28 Aug 2026 (present the Reserve card itself) and adds a ₹1,300 late-payment slab above ₹50,000 outstanding

The Reserve's whole defence of a ₹50,000 fee is the membership stack — Club ITC Culinaire with its free third night, Accorplus, handcrafted Club Marriott Asia Pacific, EazyDiner Prime, and the unlimited Priority Pass. Axis's own Reserve revision notice says that from 15 November none of them renew unless you actively consent. Framed as a choice, it works as breakage: the failure mode of an opt-in is silence, and a cardholder who misses the renewal email keeps paying ₹50,000 for a card whose benefits have quietly lapsed. Reserve is on the same list as Select, Magnus, Magnus for Burgundy, Burgundy Private, Olympus and both Miles & More cards, so this is the whole Axis premium book learning the same trick. Two other things ride the notice: from 28 August the Priority Pass card stops opening Indian domestic lounges — you present the Reserve itself against Axis's own eligible-lounge list, and post-immigration lounges at Indian international terminals still count as international — and a fifth late-payment slab of ₹1,300 appears above ₹50,000 outstanding. Notably, the Reserve notice carries no dynamic-currency-conversion line at all while the bank-wide grid goes 1.5% → 3.5%, and the card's 1.5% foreign transaction fee is untouched.

Axis EDGE brings Accor back, drops ITC, and adds Cathay, Miles & More and Hilton
Accor and Marriott off the grid since 2 April 2026; Club ITC live; no Cathay, Miles & More or Hilton → Accor live at the punished rates; ITC removed; Cathay, Hilton and Miles & More live; Marriott still gone

Axis's own Travel EDGE terms, re-read 25 September 2026, already show the grid that went live on 23 September. Accor ALL is back, and not at the old Atlas 1:2: EDGE Miles convert at 2:1 (Olympus 1:2) and EDGE Rewards at 5:1, with Magnus for Burgundy at 5:2 and only Burgundy Private still at 5:4. Club ITC is off the table. Three partners are new. Cathay Asia Miles sits on that same punished grid. Hilton Honors is the ordinary one: EDGE Miles 1:2, EDGE Rewards 5:2, Burgundy 5:4. Lufthansa Miles & More is the exception on Atlas, which converts 1:1 there while every other standard airline on that card is 1:2; the EDGE Rewards side of Miles & More is the ordinary 5:2. Marriott stays removed. Qatar Privilege Club was already back. Flying Blue, Air India and Qantas moved into Group A, which is the capped group. The Axis Rewards credit card's Amex network is advertised as joining-fee and annual-fee nil for a limited period; there is no separate Amex variant on this board, so that offer is not modelled as a fee change.
