What it's worth to you, after the fee
Welcome: 100 bonus reward points on a first retail spend of ₹1,000 or more — a benefit that no longer has anyone to pay it, since the card is closed to new applicants
Not valued. We can't value this card until the issuer publishes how it earns — every net-value number here would be a fee subtracted from rewards nobody has described. Everything we can source — the fee, the charges, the migration that put this card in your hand — is above and stands on its own; this card is simply not on the board, not in the calculator, and cannot win a best-of call until Bank of Maharashtra publishes terms we can cite.

3 notes on the card itself: how it is issued · the network variants · why it ranks #786
Why #786 Carried because readers still hold it, not because it can be bought. Bank of Maharashtra has left the credit-card business, this card is being deactivated on a date it sends by SMS, and BoM has never published what one of its reward points is worth — so there is no earn to value and nothing to rank. What the file is for is the exit: what you owe, what happens to your EMIs, and where the replacement comes from.
The take
Read this one for the closure, not the product. Bank of Maharashtra has taken what its own FAQ calls "a strategic decision to exit from credit card business", and the mechanics are already running: your card is deactivated on a date BoM sends you by SMS, every EMI on it is foreclosed with the foreclosure and prepayment charges waived, and the whole outstanding — EMI balances included — becomes payable. If you cannot clear it, BoM's own answer is to walk into your home branch for a special personal loan against the card dues, or to take the replacement card and balance-transfer the old dues onto it. The replacement is a Bank of Maharashtra–SBI co-branded card jointly issued by SBI Cards and carrying both brands, across SBI's SimplySAVE, PRIME and ELITE lines. It is not automatic: SBI Cards contacts you for consent and underwrites you on its own credit policy, so approval is not guaranteed. As a product the card was modest and honest — lifetime free on both the issuance fee and the annual fee, one reward point per ₹100 redeemable into BoM's merchandise catalogue, a 1% petrol surcharge waiver on ₹500–₹4,000 fills capped at ₹200 a month, zero lost-card liability and free add-ons for life. It was also expensive to borrow on and offered nothing to a traveller: 3.5% forex markup and no lounge access at all. BoM never published what a reward point was worth, so this desk cannot tell you what the earn was, and now nobody will.

Keep, downgrade or cancel
what we can and cannot price
Not valued. We can't value this card until the issuer publishes how it earns — every net-value number here would be a fee subtracted from rewards nobody has described. A break-even is the spend at which value crosses a fee, and we are short one side of that sentence — so this desk prints no ladder, no crossing and no ₹0 standing in for either. What we can source about this card is under Sources.

The downgrade
Bank of Maharashtra publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and we cannot price either side of it.

If you call to cancel
What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →
The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.
What's good
- Lifetime free — BoM's MITC waives both the issuance fee and the annual and renewal charges outright
- Add-on cards are free for life and share the primary's limit
- 1% petrol surcharge waiver on single transactions of ₹500–₹4,000, capped at ₹200 a month
- One reward point per ₹100 of spend, redeemable into BoM's merchandise catalogue
- Zero liability on fraudulent transactions after a loss is reported, plus cover against counterfeit, skimming and online fraud
- Card cancellation fee is NIL, which matters more than usual on a card being wound down
Watch out
- BANK OF MAHARASHTRA HAS EXITED THE CREDIT CARD BUSINESS. This card is being closed — deactivation happens on a date BoM sends by SMS, and you must clear the full outstanding, EMI balances included
- All running EMIs are being foreclosed. BoM has waived the foreclosure and prepayment charges for the transition, but the balances become immediately payable
- The replacement Bank of Maharashtra–SBI co-branded card is NOT automatic: SBI Cards contacts you for consent and underwrites the application on its own credit policy, and it can be rejected
- BoM never published what a reward point is worth, so the card's earn cannot be valued, ranked or compared
- 3.5% forex markup and a separate 3.50% + GST FOREX conversion markup fee are both named in the MITC, and there is no lounge access of any kind
- Reactivating a blocked or hot-listed card costs ₹300 + GST, card replacement or reissue ₹250 + GST, and a cash advance 2.50% or ₹250, whichever is higher
- The interest-free grace period is 15 to 45 days, shorter than the 20-to-50 most Indian issuers publish
What these points actually fly
Bank of Maharashtra has not published what this card earns, so there are no points here to fly with — not zero points, and not points that go nowhere: nothing stated either way. The moment a benefit sheet exists we will price whatever it names.

BANK OF MAHARASHTRA HAS EXITED THE CREDIT CARD BUSINESS and this card is being closed. Its own credit-cards page now leads with a closure FAQ: cards are deactivated on a date sent by SMS, all running EMIs are foreclosed with foreclosure and prepayment charges waived, the total outstanding including EMI balances becomes payable, and holders are steered to a Bank of Maharashtra–SBI co-branded card jointly issued by SBI Cards across its SimplySAVE, PRIME and ELITE lines — which is NOT automatic, since SBI Cards underwrites it on its own policy and can reject. MITC of 12 August 2024: "Issuance fee is waived as promotional offer" and "Annual/ renewal charges are waived for all the card holders", so the card file carries annualFee 0 with no joiningFee key. Interest-free grace period 15–45 days, shorter than the 20–50 most Indian issuers publish. Card cancellation fee NIL; card replacement and reissuance ₹250 + GST each; charge-slip retrieval ₹225 + GST; statement retrieval ₹100 per statement over two months old; unblocking, de-hot-listing or reactivation ₹300 + GST; duplicate e-statement NIL. Petrol surcharge waiver 1% on single transactions of ₹500–₹4,000, capped ₹200 a month. Earn is 1 reward point per ₹100 "converted into mercantile", plus a 100-point welcome bonus on a first retail spend of ₹1,000 or more — and BoM HAS NEVER PUBLISHED WHAT A REWARD POINT IS WORTH, so the card file is carried without a valued earn rate. Contactless limit ₹5,000; Insta-EMI on transactions of ₹2,500 and above, excluding gold and jewellery. NO LOUNGE ACCESS on this card. Zero lost-card liability after reporting, plus cover against counterfeit, skimming and online fraud.

- 13 May 2026Bank of Maharashtra exits the credit-card business and hands its holders to SBI CardBank of Maharashtra issued its own credit cards to its own customers. → BoM has exited card issuance entirely. Its own cards are being closed and holders offered a jointly-issued Bank of Maharashtra–SBI co-branded card instead; running EMIs are foreclosed without penalty and the full outstanding becomes payable.
An issuer-level exit, not a product change, in the bank's own words: "Bank of Maharashtra has taken a strategic decision to exit from credit card business. For convenience of existing credit card customers Bank has partnered with SBI cards for issuance of credit card under co-brand arrangement." The transition is harsher than it sounds for anyone mid-EMI — "All EMIs running on your card will be foreclosed without any penalty. The total outstanding, including EMI balances, will become payable" — though BoM waives every foreclosure charge, and the replacement card needs the customer's consent rather than arriving automatically. We carry no BoM card, so nothing on the board changes; the event is logged because an Indian bank leaving card issuance outright is rare. ON THE DATE, PLAINLY: BoM publishes no cut-off. The notice says "Your existing credit card will be deactivated from the date informed to you via SMS", so deactivation is per-customer and there is no site-wide effective day to log. The date here is the FAQ page's own "Last Updated: 13-05-2026" stamp — an upper bound on when the notice appeared, not an issuer announcement, which is why this row carries no `announced`. Do not quote it as the day BoM announced the exit. Separately, BoM and SBI Card announced the co-brand LAUNCH on 18 Aug 2025 in a dated SEBI filing; that filing says nothing about an exit, and conflating the two would date this event a year early.
