What it's worth to you, after the fee

Not valued. We can't value this card until the issuer publishes how it earns — every net-value number here would be a fee subtracted from rewards nobody has described. Everything we can source — the fee, the charges, the migration that put this card in your hand — is above and stands on its own; this card is simply not on the board, not in the calculator, and cannot win a best-of call until IDFC FIRST Bank publishes terms we can cite.

RuPay — Digital-only companion card issued against an existing IDFC FIRST credit card, to put that card's limit on UPI

Why #382 Carried, not valued. The fee is documented to the rupee — IDFC's cheapest, at ₹199 — and the earn cannot be stated at all, because this is a companion card that multiplies whatever its PRIMARY card pays. A multiplier is not a rate.

The take

Not a card you get instead of another one; a card you get on top of one. FIRST Digital RuPay is IDFC's answer to the fact that Visa and Mastercard cannot ride UPI: for ₹199 it issues a second, digital-only, RuPay-branded card against a credit card you already hold, and both draw on the same limit, the same statement and the same rewards account. No plastic is printed. You link it in any UPI app in four steps and start scanning QR codes on credit. What it pays depends entirely on the card underneath it, which is why this page prints no rate. IDFC states the earn only as multipliers of a baseline it never defines here — a higher multiplier on UPI transactions above ₹2,000, the baseline at or below ₹2,000 and on utility and insurance payments — and that baseline is whatever your primary card's is. Over-limit charges, the fuel-surcharge waiver and EMI terms are still "As per Primary Credit Card". Foreign-currency markup is not: the 9 Sep 2026 MITC prints NIL on that row for every credit card. Two primaries get their own reward structure written into the product page — FIRST SWYP and the Gaj: card — and both of those are stated in terms of that primary, not of this one. There is no general figure to quote, so this page quotes none. The ₹199 is the whole cost and there is no spend waiver on it — except on one card. If your primary is the ₹12,500 Gaj:, the MITC waives the Digital RuPay's joining, annual and add-on fees entirely. For everyone else, the question is simple arithmetic: ₹199 a year to move your UPI spend from a debit card, which earns nothing, onto a credit line that earns at whatever your primary card's accelerated rate is. If you scan a lot, that pays for itself quickly. If you do not, it is ₹199 for a convenience.

Your renewal — keep, downgrade or cancel

There is no renewal arithmetic to run on this card yet — and a break-even we cannot source is not one we will print.

Keep, downgrade or cancel

what we can and cannot price

Not valued. We can't value this card until the issuer publishes how it earns — every net-value number here would be a fee subtracted from rewards nobody has described. A break-even is the spend at which value crosses a fee, and we are short one side of that sentence — so this desk prints no ladder, no crossing and no ₹0 standing in for either. What we can source about this card is under Sources.

The downgrade

IDFC FIRST Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and we cannot price either side of it.

If you call to cancel

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • ₹199 — the cheapest fee IDFC charges on any credit card
  • Puts an existing IDFC FIRST credit card's limit onto UPI, on a shared limit and statement
  • A higher reward multiplier on UPI transactions above ₹2,000 than at or below — set against your primary card's own rate
  • Digital-only: no physical card is issued, and card replacement is free
  • Free entirely when the primary card is the Gaj: Credit Card
  • Interest-free credit period and EMI conversion apply to UPI purchases too

Watch out

  • IDFC publishes MULTIPLIERS, not a rate: the accelerated tier above ₹2,000 of UPI spend, the base tier at or below it, and utility and insurance are all stated as multiples of whatever the PRIMARY card pays. It writes an absolute figure for exactly two primaries — FIRST SWYP and Gaj — and for no other. We will not print a rate that depends on a card we cannot see
  • It cannot be held on its own: you need an existing IDFC FIRST credit card to be issued one
  • Over-limit charges, the fuel-surcharge waiver and EMI terms are 'As per Primary Credit Card'. Forex markup is not — the 9 Sep 2026 MITC prints NIL for every credit card
  • The ₹199 is charged again every year and has no spend waiver — except on a Gaj: primary, where it is nil
  • The limit is SHARED with the primary card, not additional
  • The introductory ₹200 cashback is not paid on cards issued without a joining fee
  • IDFC excludes this card from image personalisation and from the ₹199 card-replacement fee (replacement is NIL, because there is nothing to replace)

What these points actually fly

IDFC FIRST Bank has not published what this card earns, so there are no points here to fly with — not zero points, and not points that go nowhere: nothing stated either way. The moment a benefit sheet exists we will price whatever it names.

Two doors, both on the same page. If you already hold an IDFC FIRST credit card, activate UPI on it with your date of birth, registered mobile number and an OTP, and the digital card is created. If you do not, apply for the card cold and IDFC assesses you as it would for any credit card. Either way there is no physical card and the limit is shared with the primary.

The fine print

7 of 7 MITC rows published

What the MITC actually says — the rates, fees and cutoffs the brochure skips.

Forex markup Nil — bank-wide MITC dated 9 Sep 2026 prints NIL on foreign-currency and DCC/SCC transactions
APR As per the primary credit card
Late fee As per the primary credit card
Cash advance Not available — the MITC states that cash advance is not applicable for the FIRST Digital RuPay Credit Card
Add-on card NA — no add-on card is offered
Overlimit As per the primary credit card
Redemption fee ₹99 per redemption transaction, out of the rewards account shared with the primary card

MITC §1, two columns, NOT inverted: "FIRST Digital RuPay Credit Card### · ₹199 · ₹199 · NA" — IDFC's cheapest fee, equal in both columns, so no `joiningFee` key. The ### footnote carves out one case: "No joining fee, annual fee, or add-on card fees will be levied on the FIRST Digital Rupay Credit Card attached to the Gaj: Credit Card." FOUR separate charge tables list this card as "As per Primary Credit Card" — over-limit, foreign- currency and DCC markup, instalment-product fees and the fuel-surcharge waiver — which is the evidence behind its our no-guess rule null earn triple: a companion card pooled with the primary's limit AND rewards account has no independent economics to publish. Card replacement NIL.

A per-card markup table — Nil on a few premium cards, 1% to 3.5% on the rest → NIL on foreign-currency transactions and on dynamic and static currency conversion, bank-wide

IDFC's retail credit-card MITC, re-saved 9 September 2026, replaces the old per-card forex table with one NIL row covering foreign-currency transactions and dynamic and static currency conversion. The commercial and corporate MITCs, re-saved 7 September, print Nil or 0% for the business and corporate cards. Ashva's brochure, re-issued 10 September, says the same and also cuts that card's international earn from 5 reward points per ₹150 to 2X. A widely reported 26 October cut to international reward earning is not in any of those documents, so it is not on the cards. Cards that were already Nil — Mayura, Gaj, WOW, WOW Black, FIRST Private, Diamond Reserve — did not move.
