Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Pays from the first rupee

At ₹1,000 a month — ₹12,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹100 gross (earn ₹100) against its ₹0 fee = ₹100 net — at or above ₹0 from the first rung we price. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

Why #636 Five times the Platinum tier's insurance cover and five times the Classic tier's credit limit, on the same ₹0 and the same 0.5% — but still no lounge door, which is the only thing the free tiers above it have that this one does not.

The take

Gold is the rung where Canara's insurance and credit limit grow up and the benefits do not. The fee is still NIL on all three counts, primary and add-on, and the earn is still the same two points per ₹100 at a point the MITC nails to ₹0.25 — 0.5%, flat, with fuel and cash withdrawals earning nothing. What the extra rung buys is balance-sheet, not benefits: the credit limit goes from ₹5,00,000 a month to ₹25,00,000, fraudulent-charge cover doubles to ₹5,00,000, and air-accident cover doubles to ₹8,00,000 for you and ₹4,00,000 for a spouse. Those are real, and on a free card they are not nothing. But Canara's own variants table prints "Not Available" against both lounge rows for this column too, so the answer to the question this site exists to ask is still zero — no domestic visits, no international ones. And the tier immediately above costs exactly the same ₹0 while opening eight domestic doors a year, with Select/World/Signature opening up to twenty domestic and four international on the same ₹0 again. That is the whole verdict. Gold is worth holding over Classic and worth nothing over Platinum. The one genuinely useful thing here is the secured route: "Mastercard Secured Gold" and "VISA Secured Gold" are the lowest rung at which Canara will build you a card against a fixed deposit, and a secured card revolves at 2.0% a month instead of 2.5%.

The downgrade

Canara Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

If you call to cancel

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • No joining fee, no annual fee, no enrolment fee — primary and add-on, on both the unsecured and the FD-backed variants
  • Credit limit up to ₹25,00,000 a month, five times the Classic/Standard tier
  • ₹8,00,000 air-accident cover for yourself and ₹4,00,000 for a spouse, plus ₹5,00,000 of fraudulent-charge cover
  • 3% forex markup, against the 3.5% most Indian issuers charge
  • The FD-backed "Secured Gold" variants revolve at 2.0% a month against 2.5% unsecured — the cheapest borrowing on Canara's shelf

Watch out

  • NO lounge access of any kind — Canara's own variants table reads "Not Available" for both the domestic and the international row on this tier
  • Canara's Platinum and Select/World/Signature tiers cost the same ₹0 and DO carry lounge access — this rung is a step sideways, not up
  • 0.5% flat, with fuel and cash withdrawals earning nothing at all
  • Spend under ₹25,000 in a card year and a ₹150 inactivity fee lands — double the Classic tier's bar and its penalty
  • No transfer partners — points leave only as cashback or the canararewardz catalogue, and the catalogue adds a processing fee
  • Earn stops at 10,000 points a billing cycle, the first ₹5,00,000 of monthly spend — reachable on this tier's limit
  • Canara publishes no RuPay Gold, so there is no UPI-linkable variant at this rung

What these points actually fly

No live transfer route takes Canara Reward Points into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

Branch application, or Canara's pre-approved funnel at jns.canarabank.bank.in. This is the first rung on Canara's shelf that offers a fixed-deposit-backed route — the variants table lists "Mastercard Secured Gold" and "VISA Secured Gold" in the same column as the unsecured pair, on identical fees and identical earn — so it is the entry point when your file will not carry an unsecured limit. Canara publishes no income criterion for any consumer variant. As at every other rung, ask about Platinum and Select/World/Signature first: the fee is NIL across the whole shelf, so there is no rupee cost to being issued the tier that actually opens lounge doors.

Canara Bank publishes no income or age cutoffs for this card. Blank means blank — we don't invent numbers to fill a grid.

The fine print

6 of 7 MITC rows published

What the MITC actually says — the rates, fees and cutoffs the brochure skips.

Forex markup Up to 3% of the transaction amount
APR 2.5%/mo (30%/yr) unsecured; 2.0%/mo (24%/yr) on the Secured Gold variants
Late fee ₹250 + GST, on top of the 2.5%/mo carried-balance charge
Cash advance ₹30 per thousand or part thereof, min ₹150 per withdrawal
Add-on card Nil — the MITC's "Canara Card Gold (Main & Add on): NIL" covers both
Overlimit not published
Redemption fee Cashback free from 1,000 points in multiples of 100; an additional processing fee applies to recharge and merchandise redemptions

Joining, annual and enrolment fees are one merged NIL, so the card file carries annualFee 0 alone and no joiningFee. This row covers the tier Canara publishes as "1. Mastercard Gold / 2. Mastercard Secured Gold / 3. VISA Gold / 4. VISA Secured Gold" — one column, one set of terms, two badges and an FD-backed flavour of each. There is NO RuPay Gold; Canara's RuPay range goes Classic straight to Platinum. Both lounge rows read "Not Available" for this tier, so no lounge access is tagged. Earn is 2 points per ₹100 on POS/e-commerce at ₹0.25 a point (0.5%), fuel and cash withdrawals excluded, capped at 10,000 points a billing cycle. Maximum credit limit ₹25,00,000 a month — five times the Classic/Standard tier. Expected minimum annual turnover ₹25,000; miss it and a ₹150 inactivity fee applies to main and add-on cards. Interest-free period up to 50 days. Insurance steps up from the tier below: ₹5,00,000 lost-card cover, ₹8,00,000 air accident self / ₹4,00,000 spouse, ₹4,00,000 other accident self / ₹2,00,000 spouse, ₹50,000 each of baggage and purchase protection. The secured variants are the lowest rung at which Canara will build a card against a fixed deposit, and they revolve at 2.0% a month against 2.5% unsecured. All charges exclude GST, 18% charged extra.
