Welcome: 6,000 Reward Points on paying the fee and spending ₹2,000 within 30 days of issuance — first-year-free cards get nothing

Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied: it earns nothing on fuel here, so that spend is dropped, not paid at the headline, and stops pacing milestones and the waiver. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Breaks even only by erasing its fee at ₹14,000 a month

At ₹14,000 a month — ₹1,68,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹400 gross (earn ₹400) against a fee of ₹0 — the ₹1,499 is waived, the spend having cleared ₹1,50,000 a year = ₹400 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

The take

ShopGain is RBL's utility-bill Platinum, and it contains the single strangest contradiction in the bank's catalogue: the headline is 25 Reward Points per ₹100 on utility bill payments, and the footnote three screens below reads "Transactions made on Education, Insurance, Utilities, Rent Payments and Wallet Load categories will not earn reward points". Both sentences are on the same page, and RBL does not reconcile them. Read the accelerator as the narrow one it is: capped at 500 points a month, ₹1,500 a year at the house rate, and only if your biller codes to something the exclusion list does not catch. What is not in dispute is the rest — 1 point per ₹100 flat, a 6,000-point welcome, a BookMyShow buy-one- get-one twice a month, and a genuinely useful milestone ladder that pays 20,000 points and a ₹1,000 voucher between ₹2 lakh and ₹4 lakh of annual spend. Clear ₹1.5 lakh and the fee reverses. The four complimentary lounge visits the page still advertises are gone: RBL discontinued them on 1 July 2025 and left the tile up.

Your renewal — keep, downgrade or cancel

This card reaches break-even by ERASING its fee, not by out-earning it: the waiver is the decision.

₹1,50,000 annual spend erases that fee
₹14,000/mo is where the waiver, not the earn, saves it

Keep, downgrade or cancel

₹1,499/yr at stake · 5 spend bands

The charge ₹1,499/yr

The waiver ₹1,50,000 of spend in the year before renewal — about ₹12,500 a month — and the renewal fee is not charged.

Break-even ₹14,000 a month — ₹1,68,000 a year — is where this card's value crosses its fee, and it gets there by erasing the fee at the waiver rather than out-earning it.

At your spend

₹1,700 a year, net of the fee, at ₹3,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

₹7,400 a year, net of the fee, at ₹6,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

₹8,800 a year, net of the fee, at ₹12,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

₹14,500 a year, net of the fee, at ₹36,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

₹20,100 a year, net of the fee, at ₹60,00,000 of annual spend — this clears the waiver, so no fee is charged

Everyday earn plus milestones, minus the fee — the same model as the value panel above, so the two cannot disagree. run your exact spend →

The downgrade

RBL Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

  • 23 Sep 2026 Axis EDGE brings Accor back, drops ITC, and adds Cathay, Miles & More and Hilton a program these points reach
  • 21 Aug 2026 Club ITC pays up to 50,000 bonus Green Points for spreading 10 nights across all five brands a program these points reach

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • Milestones worth 20,000 points plus a ₹1,000 voucher between ₹2 lakh and ₹4 lakh of spend
  • 6,000-point welcome on ₹2,000 of spend in 30 days
  • BookMyShow buy-one-get-one up to ₹200, twice a month
  • Fee reverses on ₹1.5 lakh of eligible annual spend
  • 1 Reward Point per ₹100 on everything else

Watch out

  • The 25X utility rung is capped at 500 points a month — ₹1,500 a year at ₹0.25 a point
  • RBL's own footnote says utility transactions earn NO reward points, contradicting the headline it sells the card on
  • Lounge access was discontinued on 1 July 2025 — the page still advertises four visits
  • Fuel, auto, quasi-cash, railways, rent, education, government, wallet, cash and EMI earn nothing
  • ₹99 + GST reward-redemption fee, charged once per day you redeem
  • RBL charges 1% on FIVE transaction types its Schedule of Charges lists separately from the reward exclusions: rent (MCC 6513, on every transaction), fuel and auto above ₹10,000 a transaction (capped at ₹3,000), utility spends above ₹50,000 a month, education paid through third-party apps such as CRED, PhonePe or Paytm (school and college websites are exempt), and — with effect from 7 January 2026 — FASTag loading and tolls above ₹10,000 a transaction. These are FEES, listed nowhere near the reward exclusions: a category can both cost you 1% and earn you nothing

What these points actually fly

RBL Reward Points move to Club ITC — and that programme prices every award dynamically. There is no published chart to quote, so we quote nothing: an estimate is not a seat.

What earns, what doesn't

14 sourced rules · 7 pay zero

READ THE UTILITIES ROW BEFORE YOU SWIPE. One RBL product page carries both halves of a contradiction: the benefit table headlines "25 Reward Points for every INR 100 spent on utility bill payments - up to 500 Reward Points pm" and prices it at ₹1,380 of annual value, while the footnote on the SAME page says "Transactions made on Education, Insurance, Utilities, Rent Payments and Wallet Load categories will not earn reward points" — with Utilities defined as MCC 4900, the code a utility bill carries. RBL has not reconciled the two anywhere the desk can find, so the utilities row below records both and takes neither side.

Fuel excluded — Zero RP since 15-Oct-2024 — "Fuel & Auto" (MCC 0032, 2541, 4001, 5542, 5541, 5172) on the page's exclusion table; a fuel surcharge waiver is the only fuel benefit
Rent & property management excluded — Zero RP — Rent Payments in the first footnote, "Real Estate" (MCC 6513) restated 15-Oct-2024; 1% fee on every rental transaction bank-wide (MITC)
Government / tax excluded — Zero RP since 15-Oct-2024 — "Government Services" (MCC 9400, 1490, 2490, 2995, 7800, 9406, 9222, 9405, 9399, 9211, 9402, 9401, 9311, 9223)
Utilities (electricity/water/gas) accelerated — CONTRADICTED ON THE ISSUER'S OWN PAGE. The benefit table promises 25 RP/₹100 on utility bills, capped at 500 RP a month (≈₹2,000 of billed spend). The exclusion footnote on the same page puts Utilities (MCC 4900) among the categories that "will not earn reward points". Every value surface here credits the card's normal 1 RP/₹100 rather than the headline, and RBL charges 1% on utility spend past ₹50,000 a month regardless (MITC)
Insurance excluded — Zero RP — "Insurance" (MCC 6300, 6310) in the first footnote, "Miscellaneous" (MCC 5960) added 15-Oct-2024
Education excluded — Zero RP — "Education" (MCC 8220, 8244, 8249, 8211, 8241, 8299) in the first footnote; 1% fee if paid through a third-party app, none if paid to the institution directly (MITC)
Wallet loads excluded — Zero RP — "Wallet Load" / "Service Providers" (MCC 6540) in the first footnote
Groceries & supermarkets full — Absent from the exclusion table — the card's ordinary 1 RP/₹100
Dining & food delivery full — Absent from the exclusion table — the card's ordinary 1 RP/₹100
Travel (airlines, hotels, transit) full — Airlines, hotels and OTAs earn the ordinary rate; "Railways" (MCC 0066, 4011, 4112) is excluded since 15-Oct-2024
Telecom full — Telecom (MCC 4814) is absent from the exclusion table — the ordinary rate (inferred from absence, flag). Note RBL files telecom separately from Utilities/4900, so the utilities contradiction above does not reach it
Jewellery / gold full — Jewellery (MCC 5944, 5094) is absent from the exclusion table — the ordinary rate (inferred from absence, flag)
Forex / international spends full — International spend earns the ordinary rate with RBL's 3.5% currency-conversion assessment on top (MITC)
UPI (RuPay-on-UPI only) not applicable
EMI conversions / merchant EMI excluded — No base reward points survive an EMI conversion, on any RBL card (MITC)
  • Fuel · excluded Zero RP since 15-Oct-2024 — "Fuel & Auto" (MCC 0032, 2541, 4001, 5542, 5541, 5172) on the page's exclusion table; a fuel surcharge waiver is the only fuel benefit
  • Rent & property management · excluded Zero RP — Rent Payments in the first footnote, "Real Estate" (MCC 6513) restated 15-Oct-2024; 1% fee on every rental transaction bank-wide (MITC)

Does your spend count toward the fee waiver?

not published — and we say which

₹1,50,000 a year is the bar that waives the ₹1,499 fee. A different question from the one above — earning points and counting toward a threshold are separate rules, and issuers write them separately.

Not published. RBL Bank states what the RBL Platinum ShopGain earns and does not earn, but has not published which spend categories count toward the fee waiver and the milestones — the ₹1,50,000 bar. We won't guess it from the earn table or from a sibling card: Axis published three cards' rules on one day and all three lists differed. If you hold this card and have it in writing from the issuer, send us the document and we'll source it.

Axis EDGE brings Accor back, drops ITC, and adds Cathay, Miles & More and Hilton
Accor and Marriott off the grid since 2 April 2026; Club ITC live; no Cathay, Miles & More or Hilton → Accor live at the punished rates; ITC removed; Cathay, Hilton and Miles & More live; Marriott still gone

Axis's own Travel EDGE terms, re-read 25 September 2026, already show the grid that went live on 23 September. Accor ALL is back, and not at the old Atlas 1:2: EDGE Miles convert at 2:1 (Olympus 1:2) and EDGE Rewards at 5:1, with Magnus for Burgundy at 5:2 and only Burgundy Private still at 5:4. Club ITC is off the table. Three partners are new. Cathay Asia Miles sits on that same punished grid. Hilton Honors is the ordinary one: EDGE Miles 1:2, EDGE Rewards 5:2, Burgundy 5:4. Lufthansa Miles & More is the exception on Atlas, which converts 1:1 there while every other standard airline on that card is 1:2; the EDGE Rewards side of Miles & More is the ordinary 5:2. Marriott stays removed. Qatar Privilege Club was already back. Flying Blue, Air India and Qantas moved into Group A, which is the capped group. The Axis Rewards credit card's Amex network is advertised as joining-fee and annual-fee nil for a limited period; there is no separate Amex variant on this board, so that offer is not modelled as a fee change.
