What it's worth to you, after the fee

Not valued. We can't value this card until the issuer publishes how it earns — every net-value number here would be a fee subtracted from rewards nobody has described. Everything we can source — the fee, the charges, the migration that put this card in your hand — is above and stands on its own; this card is simply not on the board, not in the calculator, and cannot win a best-of call until City Union Bank publishes terms we can cite.

City Union Bank · RuPay · entry

RuPay — UPI-linkable; CUB publishes no UPI earn rate for this card, and no earn rate of any kind Mastercard — identical fee, interest and charge schedule — the KFS splits nothing across the two badges

Why #370 The cheapest borrowing on any Indian card we carry — 2% a month against a 42% norm — on a card with no fee at all. It is unranked only because CUB has never published what it pays back on spend, and a rate we cannot source is not a rate we will invent.

The take

Kavach is City Union Bank's secured card, and it is worth your attention for one reason that has nothing to do with rewards: it is the cheapest money on the board. CUB charges 2% a month — 24% a year — on revolved balances AND on cash advances. The Indian norm is 3.5% a month and 42% a year, and that is exactly what CUB itself charges on its own unsecured CSK and SRH cards, which makes this a like-for-like comparison inside one bank's own document. If you are a person who occasionally carries a balance, that gap is worth more than any cashback rate on any free card in India, and it is not close. Nothing else costs anything either: joining nil, annual nil, add-on nil, all three printed as nil on both network rows. The foreign markup is 2%, which beats the 3.5% norm outright and beats CUB's own unsecured Dhi at 2.50%. Cash withdrawals carry no separate fee line at all in the KFS — only the 2% interest — which is unusual enough to be worth checking at the counter before you rely on it. What we cannot tell you is what it earns, because CUB has not said. The Key Fact Statement is a schedule of charges from top to bottom without a single reward row, and CUB publishes a dedicated rewards document for its cricket co-brands and nothing equivalent here. So we carry the card and decline to value it. Read this as what it is: a cheap, free, deposit-backed instrument for building a credit file or for borrowing at a rate no unsecured Indian card will match — not as a rewards card, because on the evidence CUB has published, it may not be one at all.

Your renewal — keep, downgrade or cancel

There is no renewal arithmetic to run on this card yet — and a break-even we cannot source is not one we will print.

Keep, downgrade or cancel

what we can and cannot price

Not valued. We can't value this card until the issuer publishes how it earns — every net-value number here would be a fee subtracted from rewards nobody has described. A break-even is the spend at which value crosses a fee, and we are short one side of that sentence — so this desk prints no ladder, no crossing and no ₹0 standing in for either. What we can source about this card is under Sources.

The downgrade

City Union Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and we cannot price either side of it.

If you call to cancel

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • 2% a month — 24% a year — on both revolved balances and cash advances, against the 3.5%/42% CUB charges on its own unsecured cards
  • Joining fee NIL, annual fee NIL, add-on card fee NIL — all three, on both the RuPay and the Mastercard variant
  • 2% foreign-currency markup, well under India's 3.5% norm
  • The KFS lists no cash-advance FEE at all — only the 2% monthly interest
  • Available on RuPay, so the card can be linked to UPI

Watch out

  • CUB publishes NO reward or cashback structure for this card — the Key Fact Statement is charges from end to end, so we decline to value it
  • Secured: CUB's own funnel is labelled "Apply Secured Credit Card", so expect to pledge a deposit
  • No lounge access is stated anywhere in the KFS, and none is claimed here
  • 1% fee on rental payments and on wallet loads, charged on the full transaction value
  • 1% fee once fuel spend passes ₹50,000, utilities pass ₹25,000, or online skill-based gaming passes ₹10,000 in a statement cycle
  • Late payment ₹350 up to ₹25,000 outstanding and ₹450 above it; over-limit 3% with a ₹250 minimum
  • The card carries no re-issue or replacement route in the KFS — both fee rows read NA

What these points actually fly

City Union Bank has not published what this card earns, so there are no points here to fly with — not zero points, and not points that go nowhere: nothing stated either way. The moment a benefit sheet exists we will price whatever it names.

Direct application — no invite list, no banking relationship required.

Through City Union Bank's secured-card funnel, which the bank's own navigation labels "Apply Secured Credit Card (CUB Kavach)", or through a branch. CUB publishes no income criterion, age band or credit-score floor for Kavach, and no deposit minimum in the Key Fact Statement — the bank's other secured product, the FD-backed Dhi, sets its floor at ₹10,000 with a limit of 90% of the pledged amount, which is the closest published guide to what to expect here but is NOT a Kavach term. Ask for the RuPay variant if UPI linkage matters to you; on every fee and interest line the two are identical, so the network is the only decision on this card. Ask also what it earns, and get the answer in writing: CUB has not published one.

City Union Bank publishes no income or age cutoffs for this card. Blank means blank — we don't invent numbers to fill a grid.

The fine print

6 of 7 MITC rows published

What the MITC actually says — the rates, fees and cutoffs the brochure skips.

Forex markup 2% of the transaction amount
APR 2%/mo (24%/yr) on both extended credit and cash advances
Late fee ₹350 on outstanding dues up to ₹25,000; ₹450 above ₹25,000
Cash advance No separate fee is listed in the KFS — only the 2%/mo interest
Add-on card Nil
Overlimit 3% of the over-limit amount, minimum ₹250
Redemption fee not published

FEE PROVENANCE: KFS §A(1) "JOINING, ANNUAL and ADD-ON CARD FEE" reads NIL / NIL / NIL on both variant rows, so annualFee 0 alone and no joiningFee — the inversion trap is moot when every cell is nil. ONE CARD, TWO BADGES: the KFS lists "CUB KAVACH RUPAY CREDIT CARD" and "CUB KAVACH MASTER CREDIT CARD" as separate rows of one variant table whose every column is identical, so the board carries one row with both networks rather than two duplicate pages. SECURED — CUB's own site navigation labels the funnel "Apply Secured Credit Card (CUB Kavach)"; no deposit minimum is published for Kavach itself. THE STANDOUT NUMBER IS THE INTEREST: 2% a month and 24% a year on both revolving credit AND cash advances, against the 3.5%/42% CUB charges on its own unsecured CSK and SRH cards — the cheapest borrowing on this board, verifiable inside one bank's own two documents. EARN IS UNPUBLISHED and the card file records that with its three unpublished earn fields: the Key Fact Statement is a schedule of charges end to end with no reward, cashback or point row, CUB publishes a dedicated reward document for its CSK/SRH cards and no Kavach equivalent, and the Kavach terms page is JavaScript-rendered with no reward text served. No lounge access is stated or tagged. Transaction fees: 1% on rental payments, 1% on wallet loads, 1% once fuel spend passes ₹50,000 / utilities ₹25,000 / online skill-based gaming ₹10,000 in a statement cycle. Limit enhancement ₹200; cheque return ₹300; card re-issue and pin mailer re-issue both NA. A separate MITC exists at /filemanager/Jun26/MITC%20Kavach.pdf and is the obvious next document for a depth pass.
