Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied: it earns nothing on fuel here, so that spend is dropped, not paid at the headline, and stops pacing milestones and the waiver. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Pays for itself at ₹5,000 a month

At ₹5,000 a month — ₹60,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹600 gross (earn ₹600) against its ₹500 fee = ₹100 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

Visa

Why #204 It earns a place on a travel board for one line in its own T&C — 5% back on Cleartrip, five times the base rate — and for nothing else. There is no lounge, no points, no programme to reach, and the 5% dies at ₹4,000 a quarter.

The unit is a rupee, not a point: SBI's own T&C says the cashback "is directly credited to the SBI Card account within two working days of the statement generation". Nothing to claim, nothing to expire — so ₹1.00 is floor, value and ceiling alike. What bites is the cap: each accelerated category has its own ₹4,000 ceiling per quarter, and the quarter runs from your first transaction after account opening, not the calendar.

The take

This is an e-commerce card that a travel desk carries for exactly one line, and it is worth being blunt about which. SBI's own cashback table pays 5% at Cleartrip and 5% across Flipkart properties including Flipkart Travel, against a 1% base — a genuine travel accelerator, which is the only gate this card passes. Everything else about it is shopping: 7.5% at Myntra, 4% at four named merchants that turn out to be Netmeds, PVR, Uber and Zomato, and 1% unlimited on the rest. The caps are the story nobody prints. Each category has its own ₹4,000 ceiling per quarter — generous individually, but the quarter is counted from your first transaction after account opening rather than the calendar, so you cannot plan around it the way you would expect. The exclusion list is long and includes fuel, rent, wallet loads, insurance, education, government payments, jewellery and every EMI transaction, all at 0%. Be sceptical of the headline discounts: the "12% off on Cleartrip" the product page still leads with is a coupon offer whose own T&C says "Valid till 30th June 2026", six weeks stale as of today, and only the 5% cashback leg is card-funded and ongoing. There is no lounge access — checked in the T&C booklet, the product record and the MITC, not inferred from the page's aeroplane icon — no points, no transfer partner and a 3.5% forex markup. A shopping card with a Cleartrip line, priced at ₹500 and reversed at ₹3.5 lakh of spend.

The downgrade

SBI Card publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

What has changed under this card

  • 3 Aug 2026 SBI drops Etihad Guest from the MILES transfer table — the last SBI door into the programme issuer-wide
  • 31 Mar 2026 SBI kills both Etihad Guest co-brands and force-swaps holders into MILES issuer-wide
  • 10 Jan 2026 SBI Card splits domestic lounges into tiers, adds entry fees issuer-wide

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • 5% cashback at Cleartrip on flights, hotels and buses — five times the base rate
  • 5% across Flipkart, Shopsy and Flipkart Travel; 7.5% at Myntra
  • 1% unlimited cashback on everything not excluded, credited straight to the statement
  • ₹500 renewal fee reversed on ₹3,50,000 of spend in the previous year
  • 4% at four preferred merchants — Netmeds, PVR, Uber and Zomato

Watch out

  • No lounge access of any kind — absent from the T&C booklet, the product record and the MITC
  • Every accelerated category caps at ₹4,000 a quarter, and the quarter runs from your first transaction after account opening, not the calendar
  • The '12% off on Cleartrip' still on the product page is a coupon offer its own T&C ends on 30 June 2026 — only the 5% cashback is ongoing
  • 0% cashback on fuel, rent, wallet loads, vouchers, insurance, education, government payments, jewellery, gaming and all EMI spends
  • It issues no points at all, so there is no airline or hotel programme to reach — cashback is the ceiling
  • Forex 3.5% — SBI's default; this card is in none of the MITC's reduced-markup exceptions
  • No cashback on transactions under ₹100, and each transaction's cashback is rounded down
  • The page's 'Rs. 1000 additional benefit' is not reproduced in its own linked T&C, which totals ₹1,250 across two offers

What these points actually fly

No live transfer route takes SBI Card Cashback into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

What earns, what doesn't

12 sourced rules · 8 pay zero

Base 1% unlimited cashback, credited to the card account within two working days of statement generation. §11.1(d) lists the excluded spends in prose and then prints the MCC table behind them under "Below categories will not be eligible for Cashback benefit" — the rows below quote that table, so every exclusion here is by MCC and not by merchant name. The accelerated rates (Flipkart and Cleartrip 5%, Myntra 7.5%, four select merchants 4%) are merchant-scoped rather than category-scoped, so they do not appear as category rows.

Fuel excluded — 0% cashback — MCC 5172, 5541, 5542 and 5983, plus a blanket "any purchases at petrol pumps/service stations". The 1% fuel-surcharge waiver on transactions up to ₹4,000, capped at ₹400 a statement cycle, is the whole of what this card gives back on fuel
Rent & property management excluded — 0% cashback — MCC 6513 and 7349, and SBI's MITC charges ₹199 + taxes as a processing fee on every rent transaction on top
Government / tax excluded — 0% cashback — MCC 9399 and 9311
Utilities (electricity/water/gas) full — Utility bills earn the 1% base — they are absent from both the prose exclusion list and the MCC table. SBI's MITC still charges 1% on the whole cycle's utility spend (MCC 4900) once it passes ₹50,000 in a billing cycle, which exactly cancels the 1% earned
Insurance excluded — 0% cashback — MCC 4225, 5962, 5963, 5964, 5965, 5966, 5968, 5969 and 6300
Education excluded — 0% cashback across the widest education exclusion SBI publishes — MCC 5111, 5192, 5942, 5943, 5947, 8211, 8220, 8241, 8244, 8249, 8299 and 8351, so bookshops and stationery go with the school fees
Wallet loads excluded — 0% cashback — MCC 6540 and 6541, and the prose adds gift and prepaid card loads and voucher purchases alongside them
Groceries & supermarkets not applicable
Dining & food delivery accelerated — 4% at Zomato — one of exactly four preferred merchants (Netmeds, PVR, Uber and Zomato), against the 1% unlimited base — capped at ₹4,000 of cashback a quarter, about ₹1,333 a month, roughly ₹33,300 of preferred merchant spend a month averaged across the quarter. A restaurant bill anywhere else earns the 1% base, and SBI reserves the right to change which four merchants these are
Telecom full — Telecom bills earn the 1% base — neither accelerated nor excluded
Jewellery / gold excluded — 0% cashback — MCC 5051, 5094, 5944 and 7631
Forex / international spends full — International spend earns the 1% base against a 3.5% foreign-currency markup — a 2.5-point net loss on every foreign swipe. None of the accelerated merchants is a foreign one
UPI (RuPay-on-UPI only) not applicable
EMI conversions / merchant EMI excluded — 0% cashback — Flexipay and merchant EMI alike. SBI's own worked example strips the EMI leg out of the accelerated bucket before computing, so an EMI purchase on Flipkart earns nothing rather than 1%
  • Fuel · excluded 0% cashback — MCC 5172, 5541, 5542 and 5983, plus a blanket "any purchases at petrol pumps/service stations". The 1% fuel-surcharge waiver on transactions up to ₹4,000, capped at ₹400 a statement cycle, is the whole of what this card gives back on fuel
  • Rent & property management · excluded 0% cashback — MCC 6513 and 7349, and SBI's MITC charges ₹199 + taxes as a processing fee on every rent transaction on top
  • Wallet loads · excluded 0% cashback — MCC 6540 and 6541, and the prose adds gift and prepaid card loads and voucher purchases alongside them
  • Insurance · excluded 0% cashback — MCC 4225, 5962, 5963, 5964, 5965, 5966, 5968, 5969 and 6300

Does your spend count toward the fee waiver?

not published — and we say which

₹3,50,000 a year is the bar that waives the ₹500 fee. A different question from the one above — earning points and counting toward a threshold are separate rules, and issuers write them separately.

Not published. SBI Card states what the Flipkart SBI Card earns and does not earn, but has not published which spend categories count toward the fee waiver — the ₹3,50,000 bar. We won't guess it from the earn table or from a sibling card: Axis published three cards' rules on one day and all three lists differed. If you hold this card and have it in writing from the issuer, send us the document and we'll source it.

The fine print

What the MITC actually says — the rates, fees and cutoffs the brochure skips.

Forex markup 3.5% + GST (no concession — SBI's 1.99% tier is AURUM, ELITE, Prime NRI Secured, Tata Neu Infinity and MILES ELITE only); dynamic currency conversion also 3.5% on rupee transactions of ₹1,000 or more taken abroad
APR up to 3.75%/mo (45%/yr), charged from the transaction date, with a ₹25 minimum finance charge per transaction
Late fee Nil ≤₹100; ₹100 (₹101–500); ₹500 (₹501–1,000); ₹750 (₹1,001–10,000); ₹950 (₹10,001–25,000); ₹1,100 (₹25,001–50,000); ₹1,300 (>₹50,000); +₹100 after two consecutive missed MADs
Cash advance not published
Add-on card Nil
Overlimit 2.5% of the overlimit amount or ₹600, whichever is higher; once per billing cycle, and never reversed on a refund or cancellation
Redemption fee Not applicable — this card pays cashback, credited straight to the card account within two working days of statement generation, so SBI's ₹99 redemption fee never bites

MITC row verbatim: "Flipkart SBI Card / 500 / 500 (Waived off on annual spends of Rs. 3.5 Lakhs or more in the preceding year)" — the card's own FAQ calls the same first-year ₹500 a "Joining Fee" and the MITC calls it an annual fee; the two agree numerically, so there is no separate commencement charge. Add-on cards free. Cheque payment fee ₹200; cash payment at an SBI branch ₹250. Fuel-surcharge waiver 1% on transactions up to ₹4,000, capped at ₹400 a statement cycle — four times the cap SBI's other entry cards carry, and the only fuel benefit here, because fuel earns 0% cashback.

    Partner major SBI Card
SBI drops Etihad Guest from the MILES transfer table — the last SBI door into the programme
SBI Card Travel Credits transferred 1:1 into Etihad Guest, one of eighteen airline partners in §3 of the MILES rewards T&C. At the ₹1/partner-mile anchor that was a full-value exit, and it was the only route left after the two Etihad Guest SBI co-brands were retired. → No Etihad route at all. The MILES rewards T&C now lists seventeen airline partners and Etihad is not one of them — the word does not appear anywhere in the seven-page document. Every other SBI partner survives at the same ratio.

SBI Card's own MILES rewards T&C, re-fetched on 22 August 2026 and carrying a 3 August 2026 ModDate inside the PDF, has one fewer airline in it than the edition this desk read on 2 August. The deletion is provable from the numbering rather than from absence alone: the table's first seven rows are unchanged (Air Canada 3, Air France-KLM 4, Air India 5, British Airways 6, Cathay 7), and every row from position eight onward has moved up exactly one — Thai from 14 to 13, Qantas from 17 to 16. Position eight was Etihad Airways / Etihad Guest / 1:1. All twenty-four other partners we carry, airline and hotel, are still there at the same ratios, so this is Etihad being dropped and not SBI narrowing transfers. The timing matters more than the ratio. SBI phased out the Etihad Guest SBI and Etihad Guest SBI Premier cards from December 2025 and reissued holders onto MILES products, and the transfer route was what made that migration survivable — a Premier holder who had spent six years earning Etihad miles could keep feeding the same account through Travel Credits. That is now closed, and India's remaining pipes into Etihad Guest run through BOBCARD's Etihad co-brands, not through SBI. If you hold SBI Travel Credits earmarked for an Abu Dhabi business seat, they are Aeroplan, Flying Blue, Avios or Maharaja points now. ON THE DATE: SBI publishes no notice and no cut-off. The date here is the day the desk read the change out of SBI's own document; the PDF's internal ModDate puts the edition at 3 August 2026, which is the earliest day we can prove, not an announcement.
