Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied: it earns nothing on fuel here, so that spend is dropped, not paid at the headline, and stops pacing milestones and the waiver. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

At ₹1,000 a month — ₹12,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹0 gross (earn ₹0) against its ₹0 fee = ₹0 net — at or above ₹0 from the first rung we price. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

Why #201 Classic is Millennia with a shorter exclusion list and the same everything else — same nil fee, same four railway lounges a quarter behind the same ₹20,000 gate, same 25 points per ₹100 on app hotel bookings. It sits one place below because there is no reason to prefer it.

₹0 + GST
Annual fee1
None
Fee waiver

The product page prints the rate itself — "1 Reward point = ₹0.25" — which is exactly the house value: Classic has no in-app travel rung above it, unlike Mayura (₹0.50) or Gaj (₹1). Ignore the page's "Never Expiring Rewards" headline: the same page states four times over that points are valid for 24 months, and each redemption costs ₹99 + GST.

The take

Classic is IDFC's entry card and it is very nearly Millennia under another name — nil joining fee, nil annual fee, 3 Reward Points per ₹200 redeemed at ₹0.25 for a 0.38% everyday rate, and the same four complimentary railway lounge visits a quarter at New Delhi, Jaipur, Agra Cantt, Ahmedabad and Sealdah. The one benefit worth holding it for is the same one: book hotels through the FIRST Rewards Gallery in the app and IDFC's own table pays 5% base plus a 20% bonus, 25 points per ₹100, which is 6.25% back at the ₹0.25 redemption rate; flights pay 15 points per ₹100. The differences from Millennia are cosmetic and one of them is in Classic's favour — its 3X exclusion list omits the fuel, EMI and cash-withdrawal clause Millennia's carries, though a separate line excludes those from the reward programme anyway. The gate is the thing to watch: spend ₹20,000 in a calendar month or the railway lounges are shut the next one. And be sceptical of the page itself, which headlines "Never Expiring Rewards" while telling you four times below that points expire in 24 months.

The downgrade

IDFC FIRST Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

What has changed under this card

  • 9 Sep 2026 IDFC FIRST Bank zeroes forex markup on every credit card issuer-wide
  • 18 Jun 2026 IDFC FIRST bolts a 24-month expiry onto reward points that were lifetime-valid issuer-wide
  • 6 Jan 2026 IDFC FIRST launches zero-forex Diamond Reserve card issuer-wide

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • Lifetime free — the MITC prints Nil joining and Nil annual, in the same row as Millennia
  • 25 RP per ₹100 on hotels booked in the app ≈ 6.25% at ₹0.25
  • 15 RP per ₹100 on app flight bookings ≈ 3.75%
  • 4 complimentary railway lounge visits a quarter at five stations across India
  • Welcome benefits IDFC totals at ₹1,500 — a ₹500 voucher plus 5% back on the first EMI

Watch out

  • 0.38% everyday earn — 3 RP per ₹200 at ₹0.25 a point
  • The railway lounge quota is spend-gated: ₹20,000 in the previous calendar month, a condition dated 20 February 2025
  • No airport lounge access of any kind
  • The page headlines 'Never Expiring Rewards' and then states four times that points are valid for 24 months — they expire
  • IDFC's own Privileges PDF lists travel insurance as 'Not Available' on this card
  • 0% forex markup — the 9 Sep 2026 MITC prints NIL on foreign-currency transactions and on dynamic and static currency conversion
  • Closed loop — zero airline or hotel transfer partners, like every IDFC card
  • No points on fuel, EMI transactions or cash withdrawals

What these points actually fly

No live transfer route takes IDFC FIRST Reward Points into a programme that publishes an award chart. These points buy catalogue and portal redemptions, not award seats — so this page has no flight to show you, and will not invent one.

What earns, what doesn't

13 sourced rules · 2 pay zero

Restructured 18-Jun-2026 on the same template as FIRST Select: 10X now follows CATEGORIES (dining, travel, international, birthday) instead of "incremental spend above ₹20,000 a statement cycle". Base is 3 RP/₹200; every reduced row is written as "X RP/₹200 vs 3 RP/₹200" because earn.base carries the ₹0.25 redemption haircut while these notes quote raw RP.

Fuel excluded — "Reward program not applicable on Fuel, EMI transactions & Cash withdrawals" — the product page's own words. A 1% surcharge waiver on ₹200–₹5,000 transactions, capped at ₹200 a statement cycle, and a 1% FEE once fuel spend passes ₹30,000 a cycle.
Rent & property management full — 3 RP/₹200 at base — rent only ever lost its 10X eligibility, never its base earn; the 1% rent fee (min ₹249) applies regardless
Government / tax full — 3 RP/₹200 at base, where most Indian cards zero government spend out entirely
Utilities (electricity/water/gas) reduced — 1 RP/₹200 vs the 3 RP/₹200 base ≈ 0.13% — one of four named 1X categories; a 1% fee also applies once utility spend passes ₹20,000 a cycle
Insurance reduced — 1 RP/₹200 vs the 3 RP/₹200 base ≈ 0.13%, named on the product page
Education full — 3 RP/₹200 at base; education paid through a third-party app draws a 1% fee with a ₹249 minimum
Wallet loads full — 3 RP/₹200 at base — never excluded from earn, only from the old 10X count
Groceries & supermarkets full — 3 RP/₹200 ≈ 0.375% at ₹0.25/pt
Dining & food delivery accelerated — 10 RP per ₹200 on dining — the 10X, 1.25% at the flat ₹0.25 an IDFC FIRST point redeems for, against the 3 RP/₹200 base. Since the 18 June 2026 restructure the 10X follows CATEGORIES rather than incremental spend, so it starts on the first transaction
Telecom reduced — Utility-MCC treatment (IDFC's utility list is 4814, 4816, 4899, 4900) → 1 RP/₹200 vs the 3 RP/₹200 base
Jewellery / gold not applicable
Forex / international spends full — International purchases are a 10X category — 10 RP/₹200 ≈ 1.25% — but against the 3.5% markup Classic carries, so the trip still costs more than it earns
UPI (RuPay-on-UPI only) reduced — Via the FIRST Digital RuPay add-on at ₹199 + GST; IDFC prints "up to 3X" for Classic without restating the ₹2,000-per-transaction split it publishes on WOW!, so the ceiling is the everyday rate at best — 3 RP/₹200 vs the 3 RP/₹200 base
EMI conversions / merchant EMI excluded — Named alongside fuel and cash withdrawals in the same exclusion sentence
  • Fuel · excluded "Reward program not applicable on Fuel, EMI transactions & Cash withdrawals" — the product page's own words. A 1% surcharge waiver on ₹200–₹5,000 transactions, capped at ₹200 a statement cycle, and a 1% FEE once fuel spend passes ₹30,000 a cycle.
  • Utilities (electricity/water/gas) · reduced 1 RP/₹200 vs the 3 RP/₹200 base ≈ 0.13% — one of four named 1X categories; a 1% fee also applies once utility spend passes ₹20,000 a cycle
  • Insurance · reduced 1 RP/₹200 vs the 3 RP/₹200 base ≈ 0.13%, named on the product page
  • Telecom · reduced Utility-MCC treatment (IDFC's utility list is 4814, 4816, 4899, 4900) → 1 RP/₹200 vs the 3 RP/₹200 base

Income · self-employed ₹3L+/yr — the same single floor; IDFC publishes no separate ITR test

Direct application — no invite list, no banking relationship required.

IDFC positions Classic as a first card: an annual income of ₹3 lakh or more plus its own credit assessment, no invite list and no banking relationship. Its own FAQ calls it "best suited for salaried or self-employed individuals looking for a rewarding entry-level card". A ₹199 + GST FIRST Digital RuPay companion can be added for UPI.

The fine print

7 of 7 MITC rows published

What the MITC actually says — the rates, fees and cutoffs the brochure skips.

Forex markup Nil — bank-wide MITC dated 9 Sep 2026 prints NIL on foreign-currency and DCC/SCC transactions
APR Dynamic 0.71%–3.85%/mo (8.5%–46.2%/yr); overdue rate 3.99%/mo (47.88%/yr) on MAD non-payment, revised back to 46.2% once the minimum is paid
Late fee 15% of Total Amount Due as of the previous statement, net of payments received before the due date, min ₹100, max ₹1,300
Cash advance ₹199 flat per transaction — a fee, not a percentage, which is unusual
Add-on card ₹499 per add-on card, charged every year
Overlimit 2.5%, min ₹550
Redemption fee ₹99 per redemption transaction

Lifetime free — joining Nil, annual Nil, no spend threshold to chase. Reward points lapse 24 months from the date of credit; the MITC names FIRST Classic in that list and adds that balances held as of the June 2026 cycle run to the June 2028 cycle. Fuel-surcharge waiver is 1% on transactions between ₹200 and ₹5,000, capped at ₹200 a statement cycle. The fee lines that bite: 1% on rent with a ₹249 minimum, 1% on utility spend once a cycle passes ₹20,000, 1% on fuel past ₹30,000, 1% on passenger-railway spend past ₹25,000, 1% on tolls past ₹10,000, and 1% (min ₹249) on education paid through third-party apps. Card replacement ₹199. IDFC publishes no income or age criteria for Classic in the MITC — not published.

IDFC FIRST Bank zeroes forex markup on every credit card
A per-card markup table — Nil on a few premium cards, 1% to 3.5% on the rest → NIL on foreign-currency transactions and on dynamic and static currency conversion, bank-wide

IDFC's retail credit-card MITC, re-saved 9 September 2026, replaces the old per-card forex table with one NIL row covering foreign-currency transactions and dynamic and static currency conversion. The commercial and corporate MITCs, re-saved 7 September, print Nil or 0% for the business and corporate cards. Ashva's brochure, re-issued 10 September, says the same and also cuts that card's international earn from 5 reward points per ₹150 to 2X. A widely reported 26 October cut to international reward earning is not in any of those documents, so it is not on the cards. Cards that were already Nil — Mayura, Gaj, WOW, WOW Black, FIRST Private, Diamond Reserve — did not move.
