Welcome: 2,000 ICICI Bank Reward Points (₹500 at this card's ₹0.25) — released only after ₹5,000 of spend within 45 days of issuance, credited two statement cycles later

Priced on the everyday mix — 30% groceries · 10% utilities · 20% travel · 6% fuel · 34% everything else — with this card's published category rules applied: it earns nothing on fuel here, so that spend is dropped, not paid at the headline, and stops pacing milestones and the waiver. Plus milestones, minus the fee. No accelerator credit — the ranking model on /compare adds ~20% of spend at the card's best accelerator, so its ₹ for this card reads higher.

Pays for itself at ₹9,000 a month

At ₹9,000 a month — ₹1,08,000 a year — on the everyday mix this card returns ₹500 gross (earn ₹500) against its ₹500 fee = ₹0 net — the first rung at or above ₹0. The ladder runs in ₹1,000 steps to ₹1,00,000 a month and ₹10,000 steps to ₹5,00,000; figures are rounded to the hundred, and the accelerator is never credited.

Why #170 A fuel card that happens to open a lounge door four times a year — ranked for the door, priced honestly on the 0.5% everything else earns.

This card's own T&C settles the ₹0.25 without needing a second document. Clause IV says the daily-essentials tier is a "5% benefit as ICICI Bank reward points" and then defines it as "20 points on every ₹100 spent" — 20 points called 5% of ₹100 is ₹0.25 a point, stated by ICICI's arithmetic rather than ours. The ₹1.00 house value is Emeralde Private Metal's iShop travel rate; nothing on this card reaches it. earn.base bakes the haircut in.

The take

Filed under fuel, and that is exactly why it nearly missed this board. Look at what it actually hands a traveller: one domestic lounge visit every quarter, four a year, for a ₹500 fee that waives at ₹1.5 lakh of spend. That is the same lounge shape as the Coral half of urban India carries, on a card most people never think of as a travel product. The rest is a fuel argument and a good one — 5% back at HPCL pumps and on HP Pay, decomposed as 4% cashback capped at ₹200 a month plus the 1% surcharge waiver, with another 1.5% in Happy Coins if you pay through the app. Then the arithmetic bites. Everything outside fuel and the daily-essentials tier earns 2 Reward Points per ₹100, and this card's own terms price those points at ₹0.25 — so 0.5%, the bottom of the board. The 20-points-per-₹100 essentials rate looks spectacular until you read the 400-point monthly cap: ₹100 a month, ₹1,200 a year, and you hit it on ₹2,000 of groceries. Forex is the full 3.5%. Buy it if you fill a tank every week and want the lounge chair thrown in; do not buy it to earn points. Downgrade.

The downgrade

ICICI Bank publishes no document naming a card you can step down to, so we name none — an invented product change is a phone call you would waste. That leaves keep or cancel, and the numbers above are the whole of it.

What has changed under this card

  • 23 Sep 2026 Axis EDGE brings Accor back, drops ITC, and adds Cathay, Miles & More and Hilton a program these points reach
  • 10 Sep 2026 ICICI's September lounge list drops four doors and adds Bhogapuram issuer-wide
  • 29 Aug 2026 ICICI un-reserves Mumbai's Adani Silver lounge — the whole Annexure-1 board gets in issuer-wide

What the bank offers to keep you is the one fact this desk cannot compute. We are collecting those reports — dated, and only in aggregate — before publishing any: an offer one reader was made is not one you are owed. Called about this card? Tell us what they offered →

The desk publishes subscribable .ics feeds for the dates it knows — offer deadlines, devaluations, expiry audits. Your renewal date is not one of them: only your statement knows it.

What's good

  • 1 domestic lounge visit every quarter — 4 a year, on a ₹500 fuel card
  • 5% back on HPCL fuel: 4% cashback (₹200/month cap) + 1% surcharge waiver
  • Another 1.5% as Happy Coins when you pay through the HP Pay app
  • 2,000 Reward Points on joining, and the ₹500 fee waives at ₹1.5L of spend
  • RuPay variant is UPI-linkable and adds a ₹2 lakh personal-accident cover and 24x7 concierge

Watch out

  • 0.5% on everything outside fuel and essentials — the points redeem at ₹0.25, not ₹1
  • The 20x essentials tier is capped at 400 Reward Points a statement cycle: ₹100 a month
  • Lounge access needs ₹75,000 of spend in the PREVIOUS calendar quarter, primary cardholder only
  • 3.5% forex — the wrong card to take out of the country
  • Fuel earns cashback but zero reward points, and only at HPCL
  • The joining bonus is conditional: ₹5,000 of spend inside 45 days, paid two statement cycles later

What these points actually fly

ICICI Reward Points move to Air India Maharaja Points and iShop (ICICI travel portal) — and those price every award dynamically. There is no published chart to quote, so we quote nothing: an estimate is not a seat.

What earns, what doesn't

10 sourced rules · 4 pay zero

The card's own T&C (last updated 16 Dec 2025) is the authority on the 5% accelerator and its 400-point ceiling; the consolidated MITC (2 Aug 2026) adds the one cap unique to this card, ₹40,000 of insurance spend a statement cycle. Base earn is 2 RP per ₹100.

Fuel excluded — Earns NO reward points — "Fuel transactions done using the Credit Card" is on the T&C's non-qualifying list. What it earns instead is 4% cashback capped at ₹200 a month, plus a 1% surcharge waiver on ₹400–₹4,000, and both are HPCL-only.
Rent & property management excluded — Zero on every ICICI card (MCC 6513), plus a 1% rent-pay fee
Government / tax capped — The T&C names "government, tax" inside the 5% bucket — 20 RP per ₹100 — but the whole bucket is capped at 400 RP a statement cycle SHARED with utilities, groceries, telecom and departmental stores, and ICICI publishes no split of that ceiling, so none of it belongs to a tax payment alone and this desk prices no government ₹ against it; government spend is also struck out of the ₹1,50,000 fee-waiver count
Utilities (electricity/water/gas) capped — 20 RP per ₹100 vs 2 RP per ₹100 base — a 5% accelerator, but the T&C caps the whole accelerated bucket at 400 reward points a statement cycle, which is ₹100 of value a month and no more. Utility spend above ₹50,000 a cycle also draws a 1% fee.
Insurance capped — 2 RP per ₹100, and only on the first ₹40,000 of insurance spend a statement cycle — a cap the MITC applies to this card by name and to no other
Education not applicable
Wallet loads excluded — Zero under the MITC's E-Wallet Reload exclusion; the T&C separately strikes HP Pay app wallet loads out of the fuel-surcharge waiver
Groceries & supermarkets capped — Inside the same 5% bucket as utilities and sharing the same 400-point statement-cycle ceiling — the two categories do not get 400 each
Dining & food delivery not applicable
Telecom capped — Named explicitly in the T&C's accelerated bucket; shares the 400-point cycle ceiling
Jewellery / gold not applicable
Forex / international spends full — 2 RP per ₹100 — the T&C's own table prices domestic and international identically — against a 3.5% + GST markup
UPI (RuPay-on-UPI only) not applicable
EMI conversions / merchant EMI excluded — EMI, balance transfer and PLCC spend earns nothing and is struck out of the ₹1,50,000 fee-waiver count
  • Fuel · excluded Earns NO reward points — "Fuel transactions done using the Credit Card" is on the T&C's non-qualifying list. What it earns instead is 4% cashback capped at ₹200 a month, plus a 1% surcharge waiver on ₹400–₹4,000, and both are HPCL-only.
  • Rent & property management · excluded Zero on every ICICI card (MCC 6513), plus a 1% rent-pay fee
  • Wallet loads · excluded Zero under the MITC's E-Wallet Reload exclusion; the T&C separately strikes HP Pay app wallet loads out of the fuel-surcharge waiver
  • Utilities (electricity/water/gas) · capped 20 RP per ₹100 vs 2 RP per ₹100 base — a 5% accelerator, but the T&C caps the whole accelerated bucket at 400 reward points a statement cycle, which is ₹100 of value a month and no more. Utility spend above ₹50,000 a cycle also draws a 1% fee.

Does your spend count toward the fee waiver?

not published — and we say which

₹1,50,000 a year is the bar that waives the ₹500 fee. A different question from the one above — earning points and counting toward a threshold are separate rules, and issuers write them separately.

Not published. ICICI Bank states what the ICICI Bank HPCL Super Saver earns and does not earn, but has not published which spend categories count toward the fee waiver — the ₹1,50,000 bar. We won't guess it from the earn table or from a sibling card: Axis published three cards' rules on one day and all three lists differed. If you hold this card and have it in writing from the issuer, send us the document and we'll source it.

Fee ₹500 a year. ICICI's Key Fact Sheet runs three fee columns — joining (1st year), annual (1st year) and annual (2nd year onwards) — and the middle one reads Nil, so the joining charge IS year one. Reversed on ₹1,50,000 of preceding-year spend. This card carries its OWN insurance reward cap of ₹40,000 per statement cycle rather than sharing the Coral tier's table, and sits in the ₹10,000 transportation-spend row w.e.f. 1-Feb-2026. Fuel earns no reward points — it is absent from the fuel exception list (Parakram, Parakram Select, MakeMyTrip, HPCL Coral Amex) — and is paid in 4% cashback capped at ₹200/month instead, plus the 1% surcharge waiver on ₹400–₹4,000. BookMyShow offer gated on ₹25,000 of preceding-quarter spend w.e.f. 15-Jan-2026.

Axis EDGE brings Accor back, drops ITC, and adds Cathay, Miles & More and Hilton
Accor and Marriott off the grid since 2 April 2026; Club ITC live; no Cathay, Miles & More or Hilton → Accor live at the punished rates; ITC removed; Cathay, Hilton and Miles & More live; Marriott still gone

Axis's own Travel EDGE terms, re-read 25 September 2026, already show the grid that went live on 23 September. Accor ALL is back, and not at the old Atlas 1:2: EDGE Miles convert at 2:1 (Olympus 1:2) and EDGE Rewards at 5:1, with Magnus for Burgundy at 5:2 and only Burgundy Private still at 5:4. Club ITC is off the table. Three partners are new. Cathay Asia Miles sits on that same punished grid. Hilton Honors is the ordinary one: EDGE Miles 1:2, EDGE Rewards 5:2, Burgundy 5:4. Lufthansa Miles & More is the exception on Atlas, which converts 1:1 there while every other standard airline on that card is 1:2; the EDGE Rewards side of Miles & More is the ordinary 5:2. Marriott stays removed. Qatar Privilege Club was already back. Flying Blue, Air India and Qantas moved into Group A, which is the capped group. The Axis Rewards credit card's Amex network is advertised as joining-fee and annual-fee nil for a limited period; there is no separate Amex variant on this board, so that offer is not modelled as a fee change.
