London to Mumbai on points

20,000 pts cheapest economy · American Airlines AAdvantage LHR → BOM great-circle 7,212 km · 4,482 mi 22 programs priced as of

London → Mumbai on points, and the board finally reads the same in both directions: 44 options, the full set bom-lhr carries. AAdvantage owns every verified cabin — 20,000 economy, 42,500 business, 62,500 first off its oneworld region chart, and nothing else verified gets near it. TAP's Star Alliance table is the second real chart read westbound: 80,000 / 125,000, the identical Europe↔Asia cell it charges eastbound, because TAP's one published directional asymmetry is Europe↔Middle East and this is not it. British Airways and Virgin fly it nonstop. The other 22 rows are mirrored off bom-lhr — the charts behind them price a zone pair or a distance band rather than a direction, but the desk has not re-read them westbound, so they render "~X est." and never take the crown.

All-in ₹ = points × the program's house value (valuation index) + the sourced one-way surcharge; a dash means the carrier doesn't publish it and the ranking counts it ₹0 — the row's note carries the caveat. That surcharge is the airline's own cash charge on an award — YQ, as the notes below call it — and it is not the fuel-surcharge waiver your credit card advertises: that one hands back a hundred rupees or two at a petrol pump, this one runs to tens of thousands and decides whether the award is worth taking at all. “Dynamic” and estimated (~… est.) rows never compete for the play — the crown is always a verified, bookable price. Feed-ins come from the same transfer data as the optimizer, multi-hop chains included.

Chart-priced, not live seats. These prices are read off each programme’s published award chart and valued at our own house ₹/point. 37% of the 39,855 priced options on the board are stated estimates for programmes that publish no chart; they are marked ~ est. and never crowned the play. Nobody here can see whether a seat exists on your date — confirm the space with the programme before you transfer. Points that leave your issuer do not come back.

The cash on top of the miles. Lufthansa Miles & More, Air France-KLM Flying Blue, Avios (BA / Qatar / Finnair), Emirates Skywards and Etihad Guest state that a carrier-imposed surcharge is charged on an award. American Airlines AAdvantage, Air India Maharaja Points, Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards, Vietnam Airlines Lotusmiles, China Eastern Miles and United MileagePlus make you liable for one if the operating airline levies it, without saying whether it does. Air Canada Aeroplan states it adds none on its own metal. Government taxes and airport charges are payable in every case. Almost no programme publishes the amount, so the desk carries each one’s policy in its own words — on its programme hub — rather than a number nobody published. 10 other programmes priced here publish nothing the desk could read.

Open this corridor in British Airways’ Flight Finder → It fills in your search — LHR to BOM on 29/12/2026, which you change there. It does not show award space, and no link on this page can. It is the only carrier handoff the desk ships: Qatar returns CASH fares under award-looking parameters, Aeroplan discards them behind a login, KrisFlyer’s search has no URL to link to, and the Flying Blue template in circulation has never been verified.

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

Virgin Atlantic own metal from LHR, region award

Virgin Atlantic SkyTeam

Virgin Atlantic own-metal London→Mumbai. Virgin passes heavy carrier-imposed YQ on its own metal: one-way Upper Class taxes+charges out of London routinely exceed $900 (~£550 on the long-hauls), roughly $400–$600 the other way; economy is about $111 and Premium $240 ex-US. Some dynamically priced seats carry noticeably lower fees (a JFK Upper Class award has been seen at $254), so the cash cost moves with the points price. A valid Virgin Atlantic routing is assumed.

Lufthansa Miles & More

25,000 pts

Air India via DEL (LHR–DEL–BOM) — Star Alliance partner award, fixed Miles & More chart

Air India Star Alliance

The same fixed partner chart — the one the 3-Jun-2025 dynamic switch left alone — prices Europe↔India economy at 50,000 miles RETURN, the same band as Europe↔North America. The halving is published, not assumed: Miles & More’s General terms and conditions for Award Flights, §1.1 One-way Award Flight, reads “One-way Award Flights allow you to book an Award Flight for a single leg for 50% fewer miles than a standard Award Flight”, and carves out only Lufthansa/SWISS/Austrian metal, where the saving tracks the dynamic online offer. That is 25,000 one-way. Air India carries it via Delhi (LHR–DEL–BOM), all-AI metal at 1.09× the great-circle — inside the on-the-way limit — and the chart’s own footnote says the published amounts “include a continental connecting flight operated by a Miles & More airline partner”, so the DEL–BOM leg is inside the price rather than on top of it. At 25,000 it does NOT win here — American Airlines AAdvantage publishes the same cabin at 20,000. This row is on the board because the board shows every programme’s answer, not because it is the play; what it buys a stranded Miles & More balance is a FIXED, published number on Star metal. The chart is miles-only: the PDF still makes you pay “taxes, fees, airline surcharges payable to the respective airlines”, so the cash bill follows the OPERATING carrier — which is exactly why partner metal escapes the EUR 395–885 one-way that Lufthansa and SWISS own metal carries. On this pair that means Air India’s bill, not Lufthansa’s or SWISS’s.

Air China PhoenixMiles

Star Alliance metal (LH partner metal — CA itself flies only Delhi from India), Europe→India — Air China PhoenixMiles

Lufthansa Star Alliance

Air China PhoenixMiles prices its own metal (India→Beijing, resumed Apr-2026) plus Star partners. North Asia is its only genuine strength; elsewhere it is a weak Star pricer with heavy fuel surcharges (why the currency sits at ₹0.90). India-origin levels are not published, so all values are estimated off trans-Pacific anchors. One-way (current PhoenixMiles).

Estimate Reverse of bom-lhr — Air China PhoenixMiles prices this O&D direction-agnostically, and the bom-lhr row it mirrors is itself an estimate: PhoenixMiles' official zone division could not be reconciled with this corridor — Air China publishes no India-origin level, and its published zone tables do not map cleanly onto these city pairs. This value is extrapolated from the nearest published anchors, not a verified chart price.

The cheaper Avios desk: Qatar via Doha off Privilege Club's route table, ~27,500 off-peak. BA's own nonstop is the published alternative at 33,000 off-peak / 38,500 peak, and its ex-India carrier surcharge is often more than a sale economy fare. Price the cash ticket before either.

Air India Maharaja Points

~35,000 pts est.

Air India own metal from BOM (BOM–LHR nonstop), region award

Air India Star Alliance

Air India own-metal London→Mumbai. Air India publishes no no-surcharge promise: the Maharaja Club terms say members “shall pay applicable taxes and surcharges” on Air India, Air India Express and Star Alliance flights alike, and the FAQ this desk once cited for the opposite does not contain the sentence it was credited with. What own-metal awards have cost in practice is statutory taxes plus airport/user development fees: small on India–Gulf/SE Asia, moderate on Europe/North America, and materially higher on anything touching London Heathrow because of UK APD. Star Alliance partner awards booked with Maharaja Points are a different animal and can carry partner surcharges. The routing is Air India's own London Heathrow–Mumbai nonstop, verified 06-Aug-2026 against Heathrow's airline table and a schedule aggregator; no DEL connection is involved.

Estimate Air India publishes no award chart. Its own Points Calculator states that “Fares indicated above are dependent on the time of booking and seat availability”, and Maharaja Club prices every award either as a Value fare (the discounted rate for booking well in advance) or as a higher Prime fare closer to departure. This number is the Value-fare floor as sampled after the April-2026 repricing — not a published chart cell: Value space is not always available on a given flight, and the same seat prices higher once it is gone. Pricing model re-verified against Air India’s Maharaja Club T&C and Points Calculator on 2026-08-09.

Aegean Miles+Bonus

Star Alliance partner metal, Europe→India — Aegean Miles+Bonus

Star Alliance

Aegean Miles+Bonus prices Star partner metal off one region chart published as ROUND TRIPS — its own rule is that a one-way costs exactly half, and the halved figure is what we show. India sits in the "Near East & Central Asia" zone: the Far East is a flat 30k/45k one-way (Tokyo costs the same as Bangkok), Europe 35k/55k, North America 50k/75k. That chart is a single upper-triangular ZONE-PAIR matrix — 45 published cells for 9 zones, exactly one per unordered pair — so LHR → BOM and BOM → LHR resolve to the same cell. This corridor reads the over-3,500 mi band. The 2020 chart that made India→Europe a 51k business steal is gone — the short Gulf hops are where SUMA is now cheap. Partner awards are SUMA call-centre only, paid entirely in Miles, and non-refundable.

Estimate Reverse of bom-lhr — Delta SkyMiles prices this O&D direction-agnostically, and the bom-lhr row it mirrors is itself an estimate: Delta SkyMiles is fully dynamic (no chart since 2015); ~55,000/140,000 is a representative SkyTeam partner saver level India→Europe on AF/KLM/KE/VN/MU metal — peak dates and the 2026 partner hikes swing business 1.5–3×.

Qatar Qsuite via DOH (oneworld) — Privilege Club route pricing

Qatar Airways oneworld

Correction 01-Aug-2026: HfP's route table prices the WHOLE London–Mumbai journey through Doha at 55,000 J off-peak — an earlier note misread it as segment sums (98,000). Qsuite via Doha at ~55,000 is the Avios play; BA's own nonstop is the published alternative at 99,000 off-peak / 110,000 peak, hauling BA's heavy ex-India YQ behind it.

Estimate Reverse of bom-lhr — Avios (BA / Qatar / Finnair) prices this O&D direction-agnostically, and the bom-lhr row it mirrors is itself an estimate: Qatar Privilege Club route-based O&D pricing, ex-UK table (HfP Jan-2026): London-Mumbai through DOH 55,000 business off-peak one-way (whole journey, not per segment); assumes the ex-India direction prices the same O&D and an off-peak date - Qatar's peak trial runs ~20% higher.

Re-read against the chart and promoted from mirror-estimate to chart read on 2026-08-06. Lufthansa Miles & More

62,500 pts

Air India via DEL (LHR–DEL–BOM) — Star Alliance partner award, fixed Miles & More chart

Air India Star Alliance

Miles & More’s PARTNER chart is the one thing the 3-Jun-2025 switch to dynamic pricing did not touch, and the official Award Flight chart (correct as of 3 March 2026) gives INDIA its own region, separate from South East Asia and from Central Asia/Far East. Europe↔India in business is 125,000 miles RETURN — the same band as Europe↔North America, not the dearer South East Asia column. That puts this corridor at 62,500 one-way, fixed and published, on PARTNER metal — and the T&Cs say so twice over: §2.1 adds that for “all other Miles & More airline partners” the ask “is calculated on the basis of an outbound and return flight in the selected award zone”. At 62,500 it does NOT win here — American Airlines AAdvantage publishes the same cabin at 42,500. This row is on the board because the board shows every programme’s answer, not because it is the play; what it buys a stranded Miles & More balance is a FIXED, published number on Star metal. Alternate partner metal on the same fixed price: Turkish Airlines via Istanbul (1.02×) — both are Star partners outside the Lufthansa group, so both price off this chart rather than the dynamic engine. Two cells on the same chart row are deliberately NOT on the board. Premium Economy (85,000 return) is carved out by the chart’s own footnote 4 — “Only on flights operated by Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Discover Airlines, Eurowings, Lufthansa, Lufthansa City and SWISS” — i.e. never on Air India. And First (215,000 return, 1,07,500 one-way) has no metal: Air India’s only First cabin is the legacy 777-300ER, which in 2026 works Delhi–Melbourne and the Amritsar/Ahmedabad–London Gatwick runs, and no Delhi–Europe sector at all. Air India releases partner Saver space thinly on the Europe runs — award space, not the price, is the constraint here.

Air India Maharaja Points

~100,000 pts est.

Etihad via AUH (one stop) — the documented trap

Etihad Airways

75,000 is the chart floor for the 4,652-mile Mumbai–Abu Dhabi–London itinerary. The documented reality is worse: no Saver Award seat below 100,005 miles across six months of searching, PLUS ~₹44,000 in carrier charges — listed so nobody discovers it the expensive way. Etihad Guest's India value lives on the short DEL/BOM–AUH hop, not through-tickets to Europe.
