Two smarter premium plays undercut it: Qatar's Qsuite via Doha books for fewer Avios with a fraction of the YQ, and Aeroplan's fixed 70,000 carries NO fuel surcharge on a Star routing via Delhi. Air India cut Europe business to 100,000 but flies no HYD nonstop; Etihad via Abu Dhabi is the documented 100,005-mile trap. Mind the surcharge — on this corridor the YQ is half the story.

HYD–LHR's ~4,818 miles fall in Aeroplan's 4,001–6,000-mile band — 70,000 in business after the June-2026 hike (was 60,000), fixed and with NO carrier surcharge, which quietly beats BA's 99,000-plus-£249.50. Star routing means an Air India Delhi connection (BA metal isn't bookable via Aeroplan); taxes run a few thousand rupees, not tens.

Europe business was cut 23% in April 2026 (130,000 → 100,000, the DEL–LGW example) — a real improvement, but it buys a Delhi connection on Air India's own long-haul, and 100,000 Maharaja points cost more to mint than Aeroplan's surcharge-free 70,000 books the same metal.

The cheaper, better-seated Avios play is Qatar Qsuite via Doha: 24,500 (HYD–DOH, Z3) plus a Zone-5 DOH–LHR segment (~50,000 at its last-published band; milelion's Dec-2025 devaluation lifted long-haul ~10% without printing the new figure — budget ~5k more) ≈ 75–80,000 with a fraction of BA's YQ. Book Qsuite when Qatar opens the space; BA nonstop is the fallback.

Etihad flies HYD–AUH nonstop and connects to London, but GuestSeat pricing comes off a calculator, not a chart — the documented India-to-London datapoint ran 100,005 miles PLUS ~₹44,000 in carrier charges, with a connection. Listed so nobody discovers it the expensive way; every other row on this board beats it.

33,000 off-peak / 38,500 peak on BA's route list, plus a ~£85 (~₹9,000) surcharge each way — often more than a sale economy fare, which is why economy Avios on BA metal rarely beats cash ex-India. Price both. Aeroplan's surcharge-free 42,500 is the cleaner economy option.

The 4,001–6,000-mile band went 35,500 → 42,500 in June 2026. At ₹1/point that's a lot for economy, but the zero fuel surcharge makes it undercut BA's 33,000+£85 on total out-of-pocket. Economy still isn't what Aeroplan is for — the 70,000 business seat is.
