HDFC phases out the original Swiggy card — holders who don't choose land on Ornge

HDFC's own card-migration FAQ, a document dated 29 September 2026 in its own file name, is blunt: the Swiggy HDFC Bank Credit Card 'is being phased out' and 'cannot be retained'. Holders are offered a choice in phases; say nothing and the card is migrated to Swiggy Ornge, which HDFC makes lifetime free for them. Ornge pays 5% on Swiggy where the old card paid 10%, so the default path is a cut for anyone who used the card for what it was named after — the 10% survives only on Swiggy BLCK, at ₹1,000 a year. The old card keeps working until the new one is first used, 60 days pass, or it expires, whichever is earliest, and autopay mandates and card controls do not follow you across. The date here is the FAQ's, not a proven start date for the migration; community reports put the end of new applications months earlier, which no HDFC document we have seen dates.

The card this affects

HDFC’s own card-migration FAQ for the Swiggy HDFC Bank Credit Card, a document whose file name dates it 29 September 2026, does not soften anything: the card “is being phased out” and “cannot be retained”.

Holders are being offered a choice in phases. Pick Swiggy BLCK and you keep 10% on the Swiggy app, for ₹1,000 a year. Pick Swiggy Ornge, or say nothing at all, and you land on Ornge, which HDFC makes lifetime free for migrating holders — and which pays 5% on Swiggy, sharing one ₹1,500-a-billing-cycle ceiling with its online leg. The default path is a cut for anyone who carried the card for the thing it was named after.

The mechanics are worth reading before the letter arrives. The old card keeps working until you first use the new one, until 60 days pass from the migration, or until it expires — whichever comes first. Autopay mandates, e-mandates and card controls do not follow you across; you re-register every one. A blocked card is not migrated at all.

Our take: the 10% is not dead, it moved behind a ₹1,000 fee. If Swiggy is most of your card spend, choose BLCK on purpose rather than drifting onto Ornge by silence. The date on this story is the FAQ’s own; community reports put the end of new applications months earlier, which no HDFC document we have seen dates.
