Amazon Pay ICICI's 5% now covers Amazon.in travel

ICICI's Amazon Pay card terms, last updated 12 October 2026, drop flights and hotels from the exclusions to the Amazon.in rate. A Prime member booking travel on Amazon.in now earns 5% back as Amazon Pay balance, everyone else 3%; Gold Coins stay excluded, and foreign spends still earn nothing.

The card this affects

Six words and an ampersand are gone from India’s most-carried credit card, and a traveller is the one who gains.

Until this month, clauses XXIV (7) and (8) of the Amazon Pay ICICI Bank card’s terms paid 5% (Prime) and 3% (everyone else) on Amazon.in “(Excluding Gold Coins and travel bookings for flights & hotels via Amazon Pay)”. The edition stamped “Last updated on Oct 12, 2026” reads “(Excluding Gold Coins via Amazon Pay)”. That is the whole change: a flight or a hotel booked on Amazon.in now earns the Amazon.in rate like any other order.

What it is worth. A Prime member who books a ₹10,000 hotel night on Amazon.in gets ₹500 back; a non-Prime member gets ₹300. The rate is uncapped, as it always was.

What did not change:

  • Gold Coins are still out. The 5%/3% excludes them in both clauses.
  • The reward is Amazon Pay balance, credited within 2 working days of the billing cycle closing (cl. XXIV (6) and (22)). It reaches no airline, no hotel programme and no bank currency.
  • Foreign spends earn nothing, as they have since 11 October 2025 (cl. XXIV (11)). The card’s travel case is still its 1.99% forex markup, not its rewards.
  • The same edition rewords clause (10) as “1% Reward Points will be offered for all purchases on non-amazon platform”. Every exclusion, from fuel and rent to education and non-Amazon utilities, stands.

Why it is dated 12 October. ICICI’s terms print no separate effective date. We date the change by the document, to the day ICICI says it updated it, which is the earliest day anyone could have read it.

Our take: a small, real win, so take it. For a Prime member, 5% back on an Amazon.in booking is real money, as long as you are happy to be paid in Amazon store credit. It does not make this a travel card. It has no lounge, its rewards go nowhere and a swipe abroad earns zero. Book the hotel through Amazon if the price matches, then pay for everything abroad with a card that earns something there.

Tata Neu Infinity HDFC Bank vs Amazon Pay ICICI Bank

The two shopping-ecosystem cards. Tata Neu Infinity pays 1.5% almost anywhere and 5% at Tata brands, in NeuCoins; Amazon Pay ICICI pays 1% almost anywhere and 5% on Amazon.in for Prime members, uncapped, as Amazon Pay balance. Tata Neu Infinity out-earns Amazon Pay ICICI at every spend level the page tests, ₹1,499 fee and all, waived at ₹3,00,000 of spend. Forex is 2% against 1.99%, but only Tata Neu opens a lounge: eight domestic and four international visits a year on ₹50,000 of the previous quarter's spend. Neither currency leaves its own shop — and ICICI calls the Amazon card an invite-only programme.

HSBC Live+ vs Amazon Pay ICICI Bank

The ₹999 everyday cashback card against the free Amazon card. Live+ pays 10% on dining, food delivery, groceries, shopping and utilities under one ₹1,200 cap a month and 1.5% on most other spend with no cap; Amazon Pay ICICI pays 5% on Amazon.in for Prime members and 1% almost everywhere else, uncapped, as Amazon Pay balance. HSBC Live+ out-earns Amazon Pay ICICI at every spend level the page tests. Its fee waives at ₹2,00,000 of spend, and the Amazon card never charges one. Live+ opens two domestic lounge visits a year and one international, the Amazon card none, and ICICI calls the Amazon card an invite-only programme.

Amazon Pay ICICI Bank vs Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card

The sale-season question: Amazon Pay ICICI is lifetime free and pays 5% on Amazon.in for Prime members with no cap; Flipkart Axis charges ₹500 a year, waived at ₹3,50,000 of spend, and its 5% Flipkart leg stops at ₹4,000 a quarter. Even so, the page's value model scores the two level from ₹50k a month up, with Amazon Pay ICICI ahead only at the lightest spend, so the cap matters only for a big sale basket; ICICI charges 1.99% abroad to Axis's 3.5%. The catch is the door: ICICI calls the Amazon card an invite-only programme, so most readers asking can apply for only the Flipkart one.
