SBI puts its FD-backed Advantage cards on YONO

SBI Card now sells secured ELITE, PRIME, SimplyCLICK and SimplySAVE cards to SBI fixed-deposit holders through the YONO app, in a paperless application of about 10 minutes. The deposit size, the limit and the fees were not part of the announcement.

SBI Card launched the secured Advantage SBI Card on State Bank of India’s YONO app on 23 September 2026, with SBI’s chairman and SBI Card’s MD and CEO at the launch, according to Business Today’s report the next day. If you hold an SBI fixed deposit, you can now apply on YONO for one of four cards backed by that deposit: SBI Card ELITE, SBI Card PRIME, SimplyCLICK SBI Card or SimplySAVE SBI Card. The application is paperless and SBI says it takes about 10 minutes.

What SBI left out. The announcement gives no minimum deposit, no credit limit as a share of the deposit, no interest rate and no terms for releasing the lien on the FD. It doesn’t give fees either. The one SBI document that names these editions is the bank-wide MITC, and it puts each Advantage edition on its own fee row at its parent card’s price: ₹4,999 for ELITE (waived at ₹10 lakh of annual spend), ₹2,999 for PRIME (waived at ₹3 lakh), and ₹499 for each Simply card (waived at ₹1 lakh).

Why it matters. Until this launch, SBI’s website priced the Advantage editions and gave you no way to apply for one. The product pages redirected to the parent cards. Now there is a way in, and it suits one reader in particular: someone with no credit history and money already in an SBI deposit. They can start on ELITE’s earn sheet (2 reward points per ₹100, 5X on dining, departmental stores and groceries) rather than an entry-level secured card. SBI reward points redeem at a flat ₹0.25 and can’t be transferred to any airline or hotel programme. Treat this as a way to build a credit history, not a travel card.

Our four Advantage card pages still show these cards as closed, because we can’t read a YONO application from outside the app. They’ll show as open once SBI publishes the terms.
