The card this affects
Union Bank of India and HPCL launched UNI-CARBON on RuPay on 26 March 2021, a co-branded card built around one pump brand. NPCI’s launch release is the record of the date. What the card pays below comes from Union Bank’s own product page and its current fee schedule.
What it pays.
- HPCL fuel: 16 reward points per ₹100, about 4% back at Union’s own ₹0.25 a point, on transactions of ₹500 or more at authorised HPCL outlets.
- The cap is the catch: ₹150 of cashback a billing cycle. That is roughly ₹3,750 of fuel a month, and ₹1,800 a year at full stretch. Fuel past that line earns nothing extra.
- Everything else: 2 points per ₹100, which is 0.5%.
- A 1% fuel-surcharge waiver on HPCL transactions of ₹200 and above.
- National Common Mobility Card features for metro, bus and parking, the other half of the launch pitch.
What it costs today. Union’s current schedule prints ₹499 to join and ₹550 a year, with the annual fee waived at ₹1,00,000 of yearly spend. It is the only Union card whose joining and annual fees are different numbers. Points go to the Union Rewardz catalogue or back onto your bill. Union names no airline or hotel transfer partner.
The verdict. UNI-CARBON is a fuel card first and only. If you fill up at HPCL, the 4% is real money up to the cap. If you don’t, it is a 0.5% card with a fee.
