RBL Bank adds 1% fee on FASTag loads — ₹10,000

RBL Bank introduces 1% fee on FASTag loads and tolls above ₹10,000, effective January 07, 2026. The fee applies to roughly sixty card variants and attracts 18% GST. To avoid the fee, split FASTag loads into transactions under ₹10,000.

RBL Bank has introduced a 1% fee on FASTag loads and tolls above ₹10,000 per transaction. This fee applies to Merchant Category Codes 4784, 4111, and 4131, and is in addition to the existing fees on rent, fuel and auto, education, and utility payments. All these fees attract 18% GST. The fee is listed in the Schedule of Charges, which is separate from the reward exclusions in the card terms. This means that a category can incur a 1% fee and earn no rewards. The fee applies to roughly sixty named card variants and is scoped by MCC, not by card. To avoid the fee, FASTag loads can be split into transactions under ₹10,000. The introduction of this fee brings the total number of 1% transaction fees to five. RBL Bank’s live Schedule of Charges now reflects this change. The fee is effective from January 07, 2026. Our take: if you use RBL Bank cards for FASTag loads or toll payments, consider splitting your transactions to avoid the 1% fee. If the fee applies, it will be 1% of the transaction amount above ₹10,000, plus 18% GST. Review your card usage and adjust your behaviour accordingly to minimize the impact of this fee.
