Aeroplan's expiry pause ends on 30 November — 18 months idle and the balance lapses

Air Canada's pause on Aeroplan points expiry runs out on 30 November 2026. From then, a balance with no eligible activity in the past 18 months expires, and the clock does not restart on the day. One qualifying transaction before then keeps it alive.

Aeroplan points have not been able to expire for years. That ends on 30 November 2026. In November 2025 Air Canada extended its pause on points expiry one more time, to that date, and said the normal policy applies from then on.

The normal policy: points lapse after 18 consecutive months with no eligible activity on the account. Earning points from a purchase or a partner, redeeming them, transferring them to another account or donating them all count, and each one restarts the 18 months.

Who it catches here. Five Indian card currencies transfer straight into Aeroplan: HDFC Reward Points and Kotak Solitaire Air Miles at 2:1, SBI Travel Credits at 1:1, Axis EDGE Miles at 1:2 and EDGE Rewards at 5:2. No Indian card earns Aeroplan points on spend, so a bank-fed Aeroplan balance only moves when you move it. If you topped one up for a Star Alliance award that never happened and left the rest sitting, that is the balance at risk. A single bank transfer counts as earning, so a small top-up inside each 18-month window keeps it alive.

What to do before 30 November: check the date your account last moved. The 18 months do not start counting on 30 November. Prince of Travel reads the resumption the blunt way: an account with no qualifying activity in the 18 months before that day expires on it. So an Aeroplan balance you last touched before roughly the end of May 2025 needs one qualifying transaction (a small transfer from one of the five currencies above will do) before 30 November 2026.

We found no further extension as of 5 October 2026. If Air Canada pushes the date again, this entry moves with it.
