Burgundy Private's lapse fee doubles to ₹1 lakh

Axis's revision notice for The One Card: from 1 September 2026, a Burgundy Private relationship below ₹5 crore triggers ₹1,00,000 + GST instead of ₹50,000. Priority Pass also stops opening Indian domestic lounges on 28 August, and the bundled memberships stop auto-renewing from 15 November.

Axis’s revision notice for Burgundy Private – The One Card was authored on 27 July 2026 and picked up by the community the next day. It is a polite two-page document with a six-figure sentence in it: “A revised annual fee of INR 1 Lakh + GST will be applicable to your Burgundy Private - The One Card in case your TRV falls below INR 5 Crore.” Effective 1 September 2026. The footnote is blunter — “The annual fee has been revised from INR 50,000 to INR 1 lakh” — and Axis’s own Key Fact Sheet already prints ₹1,00,000 as both the joining and the annual fee.

Read the mechanics before you panic. The card stays complimentary for Burgundy Private clients maintaining ₹5 crore of Total Relationship Value, demat excluded — which is every legitimate holder, because that relationship is the only door in. The fee has never been a price; it is the exit toll, and Axis has just doubled it. TRV is checked in the month before your card anniversary month and charged in the anniversary month, so a portfolio that dips at exactly the wrong moment costs ₹1 lakh plus GST on a card whose every other fee column reads Nil.

Two more dates sit in the same notice. From 28 August, Priority Pass stops working at domestic airport lounges in India — you present The One Card itself instead, and lounges past immigration at Indian international terminals still count as international and still open on PP. From 15 November, the bundled memberships — Club Marriott, Accor+ Explorer, Taj Epicure, EazyDiner — renew only with your explicit consent. That is consumer-friendly right up to the morning you ignore an email and quietly lose a perk you were counting on.

Our take: none of this touches the engine. Burgundy Private still earns a flat 15 EDGE RP per ₹200 and converts at 5:4 to every live partner — a real 6% miles rate, the best EDGE Rewards deal in the country, and the only Axis card that kept 5:4 on the April-2026 additions where Magnus for Burgundy was fobbed off with 5:2. It ranks 9th of 107 on our board and it stays there. But this notice arrives inside a bank-wide sweep landing 28 August — gift-card spends carved out of rewards, dynamic- currency markups raised on the cards that charge one (Burgundy Private’s stays Nil) — and the direction is consistent: Axis has stopped subsidising customers who drift below the line. Diarise the consent emails for November, and do not let the relationship sag in the month before your anniversary.
