Axis launches Magnus for Burgundy, the gutted Magnus's escape hatch

One month after taking a machete to the regular Magnus, Axis quietly rolled out the escape hatch: Magnus for Burgundy, launched September 30, 2023 for clients in the Burgundy priority-banking tier, and offered lifetime-free through November 30, 2023 — a window later extended to December 31.

The headline feature is what it didn’t lose. The Burgundy variant keeps the old 5:4 EDGE-to-miles transfer ratio that the mass-market Magnus had just seen slashed to 5:2. Same points, same partners — double the miles, if your bank balance clears the Burgundy bar.

Which reveals what September’s carnage actually was: not a universal belt-tightening but a segmentation play. Axis didn’t decide Magnus economics were unsustainable. It decided they were unsustainable for you, and perfectly fine for its wealthiest clients.
