Axis Reserve loses half its miles-conversion value alongside Magnus
In the September 1, 2023 Axis purge, Reserve's ER-to-airmiles conversion on ₹1 lakh of spend was cut from 6,000 miles to 3,000, the EDGE transfer ratio dropped from 5:4 to 5:2, and annual conversions were capped at 5 lakh points.
Magnus took the headlines on September 1, 2023, but Reserve cardholders got hit even harder. The ER-to-airmiles conversion on ₹1 lakh of spend was cut in half — from 6,000 miles to 3,000. Same card, same spend, half the miles.
The mechanics match the Magnus nerf: Axis slashed the EDGE-to-partner transfer ratio from 5:4 to 5:2 and capped annual conversions at 5 lakh points per customer. And in the same segmentation move it pulled with Magnus for Burgundy, the old ratio survived for anyone who opened a fresh Burgundy Private relationship. The devaluation was for the merely rich, not the very rich.
Reserve was already a niche play — a golf-and-lounges card wearing a super-premium fee. Miles conversion was its last real claim to being a points card. That claim just halved.
Our take: at a 5:2 ratio, Reserve’s domestic earning is 3% against a ₹50,000 fee. Keep it only if the lounges, golf and hotel status genuinely dwarf that fee — as a mileage engine, it’s done.
