Axis slaps redemption fees on EDGE points and miles

Redeeming EDGE points on the portal now costs ₹99 and transferring to airline miles costs ₹199 — Axis's second cut of 2024.

Axis Bank has decided that using your points is a billable event. EDGE portal redemptions, previously free, now carry a ₹99 fee, and converting EDGE points to airline miles costs ₹199 per transfer. Finance charges crept up too, to 3.75% a month.

This is Axis’s second cut of 2024, and it’s aimed squarely at the behaviour that justified the cards in the first place. The Atlas and Magnus earn their keep through mile transfers — EDGE Miles are worth ₹2 each in our index precisely because they move into airline programmes at strong ratios. Taxing the transfer taxes the entire thesis.

The maths still works, barely-annoyingly: ₹199 against a decent-sized transfer is noise. Against small, frequent transfers, it’s a real haircut by design.

Our take: batch your transfers. Move miles in large, infrequent chunks so the ₹199 amortises to nothing, and stop redeeming small amounts on the portal at ₹99 a pop. Axis is betting you won’t change your habits — prove them wrong.
