InterMiles resets the clock, drags elite status into 2021
InterMiles reset every elite member's qualification year from Nov 2019-Nov 2020 to June 1, 2020 through May 31, 2021 — a de facto 7-month status extension, though members close to requalifying lost that progress.
With flying dead and requalification miles nowhere in sight, InterMiles has quietly reset every elite member’s qualification year. The old cycle ran November 2019 to November 2020; the new one runs June 1, 2020 through May 31, 2021. Net effect: a de facto seven-month status extension.
For most members, that is a straightforward gift. Gold and Platinum perks that had no realistic path to being re-earned mid-lockdown now survive well into 2021, without a single flight taken.
But read the fine print before applauding. The reset wipes the old cycle’s progress — anyone who was close to requalifying under the November clock loses that accumulated credit and starts from zero in June. If you had banked most of a requalification before the world shut down, InterMiles just deleted your head start.
Our take: seven free months of status is a real buff for the grounded majority; the near-requalifiers are the ones paying for it.
